Lost Boy: The True Story of Captain Hook

Edit: Forgot one! The Great God Pan

by Arthur Machen
Four beautiful, awful books that really meet the definition of horror!

How about This is Halloween by James a. Moore? My phone is being a hussy and I can’t find it to link to it.

Ash by James Herbert"
Absolutely yes! I never need an excuse to read Herbert! I’ll happily re-read (as I’ve read almost all his work!) Am I allowed to do a re-read? Can I? Can I? Lol

On that note I nominate...

Of course you can re-read. If it were up to half the peeps in here the group would only read and re-read The Shining and Shirley Jackson every other month. With the occasional re-read of You.

Indeed it did feature football players...high school football players if I remember correctly. Growing up I loved Saul. Unloved. Unwanted. Great stuff.
another recommendation is Children of the Dark by Jonathan Janz...and absolutely wonderful coming of age type story. Was thrilled to hear he has a sequel coming out soon.

Are you not overly keen on re-reads Alan?! I sense you’re a little bored of Jackson and The Shining?! I’ve only read 2 by Jackson (HOHH & WHALITC) was bored with the first, loved the second. Never read The Shining, not read much King at all actually. Lol, that gif did made me chuckle 😆

Ash by James Herbert
That series of books was great!

Clyde, Authors may not nominate their own books. You can nominate something else, or add a vote to another author's book though.

You appear to be new to the group reads nom threads. I'm just being sardonic (And not for the first time. *whistling innocently*) about how every month instead of trying to explore new books/authors there are a number of people who just want to read the same old popular books over and over. Seems like a waste and contradictory to the idea of a group read.

I see a kindle version and also a paperback for around $6. My concern is this book 3 in a series. I don't know anything about the series so I don't know if any books can be read as a stand alone or if the previous books need to be read first.
Anyone have answers?

+1 for The Hunger by Alma Katsu"
I'd be up for The Hunger. I've had it sitting on my kindle for a while now.

Not sure about how it falls in the series (I read the first two YEARS ago....), but it is definitely available on kindle.

I can't say 100% for sure on this one, but the 'series' is really just the main character investigates 3 different hauntings in 3 different books. I don't recall the first two being connected aside from the protagonist, and from the description on the back of Ash it sounds to me like just another unconnected investigation. Like reading Hercule Poirot books.

There is no theme for this month. Dig up your favorite ghouls and ghosts and things that go bump in the night for a scary fall month.
Remember, books that get seconds and thirds have a greater chance of making the poll. Please do not nominate books that have been read in the past year. Check here for a list of previous reads: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Apologies for forgetting this: Authors, please do not nominate your own books.
Have fun!
