Kathryn Haines (kathryn_miller_haines) | 1 comments I'm Kathy and I live in Pittsburgh, PA. I'm a mom, a librarian, and a writer. I love pretty much everything YA, though I must confess I don't read very much fantasy (that being said, I LOVED Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and the His Dark Materials series...hmmm...maybe I do like fantasy). Looking very forward to finding out about new books.

message 1356: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everybody! :) My name is Simona, but on internet I called myself Stormy (this nickname really beseem to me). I am 16 years old and I live in small state in heart of Europe - Slovakia :) I really love books, they are my drug and my favorite genre is young adult (contemporary, paranormal, dystopia) and from adult I really love historic books :) I love writing stories. I hope that one day I would publish my book :)
On the end I could say that I love lollipops and music is my next name (metaphor :)).

Michelle (Pink Polka Dot Books) (pinkpolkadotbooks) | 58 comments Hi my name is Michelle and I'm from Pittsburgh. I'm a mom and and obsessed reader. I read everything, but mostly YA books. I don't care how old I get, I swear I'll always love books about high school and young adulthood. I don't read fantasy and vampire stuff though, so I guess that's a huge section of YA that I'm missing out on, but I just can't get into it.
I would love to write a YA book eventually, but so far I just write for fun. It's nice to see so many moms, teachers, and adults on here. I didn't think that many older people read this stuff like I do, but it makes me happy :)

message 1358: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) Yes Michelle, there are a number of moms here! For me, apart from the fact that I enjoy some of the good YA books out there (and I also write them), my kids are entering that age bracket, so I have a 'vested interest' to understand what they are reading. So right now, I'm reading the books before my son does!

message 1359: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) Welcome, Leah and Stormy!

message 1360: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 6 comments Hello all, I'm Jackie and I love YA books. I mostly read fantasy and paranormal, but I'm up for anything good. Looking forward to finding some great new reads and taking part in the book challenges.

Phillip Simpson (phillipwsimpson) | 4 comments My name is Phill Simpson (a.k.a Phillip William Simpson or Phillip W. Simpson). I'm a YA writer and reader (and a primary school teacher). Looking for any recommendations for YA that features zombies. I love zombies.

Phill, The Forest of Hands and Teeth, The Dead-Tossed Waves, and The Dark and Hollow Places are great books featuring zombies. The second and third are companion novels.

Enclave has some awesome creatures that aren't full-fledged zombies, but have a zombie-vibe.

Also, not exactly YA but Warm Bodies was a really good zombie novel.

Hope these help!

You could probably try Middle School, The Worst Years of My Life and Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie ...they seem like books you both could get into :)

message 1371: by Winnie (new)

Winnie Milner | 3 comments Hello. My name is Winnie. I am a lifelong reader and lover of YA fiction. I presently work as a media specialist for 11th and 12th students in a career technical school as well as for preschool students who also attend school in the same building. I try to read as much as possible, but with three young children I find it difficult to do. I aspire to read mostly YA fiction so that I can connect to my students and give solid recommendations. I struggle with trying books out of my favored genres. I LOVE the Hunger Games series, but found the Twilight series aggravating and extremely annoying.

Hi! I didn't like twilight either... I basically just skimmed the last 3rd of the book because i thought it was annoying too... I don't believe in love at first sight, at that point it is like an unhealthy obsession with someone that she doesn't even know at all.

Phew. At least I'm not the only one! The way everyone seems to talk about it makes me wonder. Bella is way too whiny and you're right on about the obsession part.

message 1374: by Jess (new)

Jess (Zedo) | 2 comments Hi, My name is Jess and I'm 13, i love reading infact i think i might even be addicted but that's another story, it all started with Stephanie Meyer as I began to fall deeper and deeper into the hole the more I read. i want to work in a wildlife rehabilitation center in Africa for a career and a side job as a publisher. i've already written 10 books and published 1, I also love animes (jappenese show)my favorite one is Ouran Highschool Host Club 2nd Kodocha and well i could talk about them all day just like the books. message 1376: by Pj (new)

Pj (pbookbuddy) Hi! My name is Phil and I LOVE reading to the extreme. YA is my favorite genre as well as Mystery and Fantasy. My dream book would be a physiological thriller, with a murder mystery, knights and dragons, and of course a killer love triangle. Also zombies wouldn't hurt :)

Larisa (larisaaxo) | 1 comments Hi everyone!:) I'm a newbie here so I'm still trying to learn the ropes. haha. Soo my name is Larisa & I'm 17. Reading has been a passion of mine since I was a kid. message 1380: by Masako Lin (new)

Masako Lin (surin) Hi my name is Suling and I go by SL here on Goodreads. I'm from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and in my late 20's. I absolutely love reading but I keep finding myself drawn towards the YA genre. I guess for me, YA is a lot more imaginative and I just love a good story!

I absolutely love paranormal and fantasy YA books. Not really into the urban chicky stuff (though I do like a dash of romance in my books, I just don't want it to be the main plot driver).

I read way too much, but that's because I read Ebooks on my iPhone (and with all this online purchasing and Overdrive Media Library Apps, it makes picking a book so much faster!).

message 1381: by Merilyn (new)

Merilyn (electriclemon) | 2 comments Hi. It has been many years since I was a teenager but I enjoy a good mystery whether it's adult or YA fiction. I like stories with "skeleton's in the closet", which I define as dark secrets people keep buried for years, crumbling mansions, spirits and isolation. I just finished Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children and am looking forward to the followup book.

message 1382: by Luke (new)

Luke Heatherington | 4 comments Hey, so I'm new to the site and don't really know what it's all about but I like it. I'm 17 and I live in Ontario, Canada. None of my friends read, so I don't have any friends on this site so feel free to add me :). I like the Mortal Instruments series and will read pretty much anything fiction, or non fiction. That's about it.

message 1383: by Mark (new)

Mark Tranter Hi. I have just joined this group. I like to read YA books, both because I enjoy them and also so that I can recommend them to the young people I work with in High School. One that I rate very highly is The Pox Party.

message 1384: by Dawn (new)

Dawn Miller (dawnraemiller) | 4 comments Hey, I joined this group last year I think, but have only recently figured out how to use Goodreads (yes, I'm slow).

About me: I have three boys, live in San Francisco and read an obscene number of books a year (upwards of a hundred, easily). Somewhere in all that, I manage to ghostwrite a commercial YA series and my own books. Basically, I never sleep.

My top five favorite books: Looking for Alaska, Jellicoe Road, Where She Went, The Hunger Games and A Separate Peace (Not exactly YA, but YA-ish). I also, love the Vampire Academy series and Divergent.

Leslie and Elizabeth (httpwwwgoodreadscomrwr) | 1 comments I’m Leslie. I am a 16 year old teen with a passion for reading and writing. I LOVE to read and write fiction, particularly fantasy, although I am writing a science fic novel right now. .

Elizabeth~I am a thirteen year old girl that gets a kick out of reading and writing, as opposed to texting. My favorite genres are fantasy and paranormal, though I enjoy many others. I am currently undergoing writing a fantasy novel. I am also obsessed with smiley faces. :).

Together, we run a blog ( www.rwryastyle.blogspot.com ), and have been doing so for a few months. We love to write, and manage to fit it into our busy schedules as often as we can.

message 1386: by Marta (new)

Marta Acosta Hi, my name is Marta and I'm an author and a reader. (No one would give me a job sitting around reading books or else I probably never would have started writing them.) My taste in books is eclectic -- I like everything from spooky gothics to dystopian to 19th century lit and I usually like books that have an element of humor somewhere. I haven't read much sci-fi lately but there are some really intriguing YA sci-fis that I'm dying to read.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my family and rescued dogs, and I have a lot of book giveaways on my blog, because what's better than free books?

message 1387: by [deleted user] (last edited Oct 01, 2011 07:03PM) (new)

Hello everyone...

My name is Elizabeth. I am an avid reader although I don't have as much time to devote to my passion for books as I'd like due to having a toddler. I don't really have a favorite genre, although I do often enjoy YA novels.

I live in Portland, Oregon with my husband and little girl.

Feel free to check out my blog. http://thebookwormsparadise.blogspot.com

Happy reading!

Spandana (fgi_453) | 6 comments Hello, all! :) I'm Spandana, 16 years old and from India. This is the first book club I've ever been a member of and I get ridiculously happy at the idea of discussing books I've enjoyed with other people. (Silly me. xD)
YA, as a genre, is new to me since the bookstores around where I live seemed to have only children's books and then the adults' section. But now that I've discovered the wonderful realm of YA, I don't plan on ever leaving. :D
I look forward to meeting you all!

message 1398: by Sloan (new)

Sloan (ofliliesandremains) Hey everyone!! My name is Sloan. I'm 21, but I still enjoy a good YA read. There are just so many good books out there, no matter who they are written for. :)
