Ace (darlingnovels) Hello everyone, I'm Ace. I'm a little bit out of my teens (21) but still ever more so addicted to any novel I can get my hands on. Even YA and I do read more YA books than the regular romance novels. Hopefully I will get to see more of that here with this group. I live in Nashville,TN and I work at a fashion store-- when not working I'm usually found drowning in a novel.

Welcome everyone!! Wow.. 3000 members! This is very exciting for me!

message 1253: by Gabry (new)

Gabry (gabyhd) Ooh, almost at the 3k mark for members, exciting! I've been an avid fan of YA for a while now and... well, I read up. Started reading YA since I was 10 and read books that a lot of people deemed is for older YA because of profanity, sex, etc. but that did not phase me from reading it. Some of those said upper-YA are some of my favorites (Melina Marchetta!) and I live in the US and read any type of YA, which is kind of evident by who some of my favorite authors are. Contemporary YA seems to get more stars than PNR though. Name's Gabrielle and I write YA as well. 13 years old.

message 1254: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 4 comments Hey guys :) I'm Arphaxad - 21-year-old Linguistics student from Cambridge, UK, and total YA addict/general bookaholic. Favourites include Ender's Game, The Dark Is Rising Sequence and anything by Kristin Cashore or Tamora Pierce.

Looking forward to chatting with you all!

message 1255: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sope0410) Hi, my name is Sophie. I am 14 years old and I love to read. I recently started a book club called "Teen Book Club" Please look it up and join also. It is brand new so there are no member.

message 1256: by Martha (new)

Martha Tovar (marty_org) | 17 comments Hi everyone my name is Martha and I love YA book. It wasn't always the case though. I guess you could say im a little reversed when I was a young adult (I'm 29) I loved to read literature and anything that fell in the realm of classical books and now I enjoy a variety of genres but my fav is YA!! I'm looking forward to the books we will be reading and I see I need to catch up on previous ones.

message 1257: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifer1416) Hi! My name is Jennifer and I am an avid reader of YA. It all started with Harry Potter and has a grown to an obsession ever since. As a teenager, I read more romance, i.e. Danielle Steel and now as an adult I am reading YA.....go figure :) I get wrapped up in Fantasy stories and tend to look for those types of books. I tend to judge books before I read them (which I hate about myself), and it takes someone several times of asking or several different people suggesting before I try anything new. I am hoping to change this about myself and open myself up to other options. I absolutely love reading! It is my passion and I look forward to reading as many books as I can!

message 1258: by Natalia (new)

Natalia | 13 comments Hello! I'm Natalia, aspiring author (seems there are a lot of those around here), and I'm an avid reader. I read about a book a day and need somewhere to talk about all the stuff bouncing around in my head. I finished Matched about a week ago and this community seems pretty cool.

I look forward to reading and participating.

message 1259: by {cindy} (new)

{cindy} Hi :)
My name is Cindy. I'm from the Netherlands and love to read. I've just recently started to buy books in English, to try and learn the language a little bit better. I'll order the book of the month right away! Looks interesting and can't wait to follow the discussions!

message 1260: by Grace (new)

Grace (gracesuperales) HI everyone!!!

And I really love reading YA books.

I just finished reading Matched. And I loved it.

message 1261: by K (new)

K (librariankaryn) Hello~ My name is Karyn and I am a 25 year old YA Librarian in a public library in Connecticut. I love YA books, and books in general. My other interests are cooking, baking, video games, movies, crafts, and going to the beach. I read a TON of YA books and my favorites are futuristic, fantasy, vampire, retold fairy tales, and conflict/coming of age stuff. I've already read this month's book, and I loved it. Can't wait to discuss it, and especially can't wait for the sequel!

message 1262: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (alovelybookaffair) Hey, everyone! My name's Alyssa and I'm a seventeen year old from Canada. I've loved reading ever since I was little, and still do today. I love YA books, and have for a very long time. I also enjoy writing. It's something I do a lot in my spare time. And kind of off-topic with reading and such, but I'm in love with the fantastic game of hockey. That's the thing people know me for. No joke.

Anyways, voila. There's my short little intro. Feel free to chat anytime.

Welcome everyone! So glad you are here!!

message 1267: by Amalie (new)

Amalie Hello I'm Amalie. I'm 27 and a teacher of English and Lit. in Middle School. I have to say I didn't read any YA book as a teenager rather than some work of Enid Blyton and L.M. Montgomery etc. etc. It's my students who actually introduced me to YA fiction. (Heavens! Do I sound so old when I say that?)

I'm more into classics because it goes well with my work and I always love reading *don't want to sound so arrogant* but good writing so any YA fiction with good language works for me.

message 1268: by Cyndi (last edited May 21, 2011 08:48AM) (new)

Cyndi Tefft (cynditefft) Hi everyone! *waves* I am Cyndi Tefft, a YA author. I love seeing what other people are reading. I use Goodreads almost exclusively to help me determine which books to read next. I particularly like books with Scots in them (since I looooooove the Scottish accent and kilts!).

message 1269: by Joko (new)

Joko (aquacoolchick) Hi! I'm Joko. Most of my friends call me Jo. I'm 17. I've been reading since I was 4 and reading YA books since I was 9. I joined this group because I LOVE the idea of a book club and have always wanted to join one. I'm here to make friends so feel free and add/message me anytime. :)

message 1270: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi!!!!!!!!!!!!
My name is Melissa and I'm 10 at the moment, but I read extremely advanced books for my age. You could say my arch enemies are "grade-level appropriate" books. I absolutely love to read ANY fiction!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of my favorite authors are:
L. M. Montgomery
Susanne Collins
D. J. MacHale
Madeleine L'Engle
Rick Riordon
John Grisham

message 1271: by [deleted user] (new)

I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove to read and write--both stories and poetry!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 1272: by Camille (new)

Camille Cheng (camillecheng) | 2 comments Hello! I'm Camille, I love to read and write my own stories, especially when I'm bored to death. :)

message 1273: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) I'm Vered. I'm South African and Canadian by citizenship and have lived in Kenya for the past 11 years. My 2 kids are almost young adults (well, my 10 year old son has just discovered Harry Potter and my 8 year old daughter thinks she's 18...), so I have a rather vested interest in understanding and learning about YA lit! Plus I love reading and writing YA stories.

message 1274: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin Maxwell (xlilcubbie25) Hi! My name's Caitlin. I live in a small town located in Illinois, and I am now a senior in high school, part of the graduating class of 2012.
I have always had a love for reading, although Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling can be attributed for guaranteeing that I never lost that spark.
I read a lot of fantasy novels as well as regular fiction. Basically, I can go from reading something as fictional as Harry Potter, to reading something as normal as, say, something Sarah Dessen (I guess that's a good comparison?). I'll give anything a try, for the most part. I've just recently discovered that I really enjoy reading thrillers, too.
I don't think anything will ever make me stop reading and loving YA books. There's something about them that just isn't matched in all adult novels, and I don't ever want to let that something go.
I've dabbled in writing, but don't expect to ever read any of it, unless I feel extremely courageous for whatever reason. Anything I do write generally is fanfiction of some sort (probably Harry Potter), but there is one original story of my own that I hope to one day have the inspiration to finish.
So yeah, that's about all there is to know about me and reading for now.

message 1275: by Lyza (new)

Lyza James | 5 comments Hello all! I am one of those adults addicted to YA. Thankfully my daughter and I have the same taste in books :) Saves on the Barnes and Noble bill. Anyway I read all kinds of YA. I do lean toward the ones with romance. I like the edge of my seat type books as well.

message 1282: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Sprague | 1 comments Hi, I'm Brittany. I'm 21 and going to be a senior in college, studying English Education. When people ask why I want to be an English teacher, I usually joke and tell them that it's so I can keep reading YA novels the rest of my life and have an excuse!

message 1283: by Missy (new)

Missy (authormissymitchell) | 2 comments Hello. I am Melissa. I finished my first YA novel and am working on Part II of the series. I am also at the lovely, oh-so-fun stage of query letters and wishing, hoping, dreaming about literary agents. I love YA books. Not so much the sci-fi but more the ones that are about the transformation that occurs during those years - the love, the growth, the pain, the drama, the happiness, the excitement - all the emotions and how heightened they are during those years. Remember it well. Love it. I know a book is good if I wish I were made of paper so I could live inside the story. I always walk into the book store and look at the shelf where one day, my book will sit. (Positive thinking, right?)

message 1284: by [deleted user] (new)

message 1288: by Kitty (new)

Kitty | 9 comments 'Allo, the name's Kitty. I just turned a quarter century old (25) and I have a full time job at a used bookstore.

I greatly enjoy reading, but also very much love writing as well. I have a degree in Art Studio-- focus in drawing but I love painting in acrylics as well-- and also make chainmail jewelry and do a number of crafty things. Or at least I would if I had any time between work and taking the bus too and from work. ^_^()

If anyone is interested, you can find some of my drawing (and a very small selection of my writing) at my DeviantArt account.
