Naomi | 1 comments Hello!
My name is Naomi, and I am turning 16 in one month! I live in Ohio where the weather is not always so nice, so it IS nice to sit down in a cozy chair and read a book! So far I love Goodreads, it is so helpful finding books and giving my opinions! My favorite genres are historical romance and straight up fiction! I do not know everything about this website so friends and help is definitely welcome(:

Aira (aibloop) | 3 comments Hi!
My name is Alaska, it's not my real name but i wish it was.
Reason for the name is well from a character that i really like so yah. I was born in CT and moved around alot. Oh my age well im not older then 18 that's will be all!!
I was never in to reading in till, i read a good YA book and now i'm hooked. I really dont know any thing about this web but it seems pretty good, and i'm a horrible speller :D, but i love to write, go figure right. looking forward to reading and talking about books here!! :D

message 1204: by Cassie (new)

Cassie (cassiemyork) Hello! My name is Cassie and I'm 13! (: I love books and hope that I'll become an author one day! I live in Indiana with my dad, mom, and brother. And ,just like everyone else in the world, i think my brother is an absolute pest! I love basketball, and I have three pets- a dog and two cats. I will read almost any fiction book, almost. It really depends on three things- how good the book sounds, if other people liked the book, and, yes, what the cover looks like. I know you're not suppose to judge a book by its cover, but, well, really who doesn't at least a little. (:

message 1208: by Bea (new)

Bea (eminentsapphire) Hi! I'm Bea Isabella, 15. I enjoy reading books during my free time, and sometimes write short stories. scifi, fiction, and YA are some of my genres because they're perfect for my age and i find most of the stories cute ^_^ i always want someone to relate with after i've read a book and discuss each other's opinions. well, aside from reading books, i also love to play the piano as well as draw characters either from my recent book's fantasy world or from my favorite videogames...surfing the net and eating sweets? count them in.

did i mention that i also love meeting new friends? well, i surely did. but just now :D

message 1209: by Jen (new)

Jen (jennifer_ashmy) | 10 comments Hi everybody. I'm Jen and I am 24 years old. I live in Florida and I can't get enough of YA books. It's my favorite genre right now. Even though I do read a bit of everything.

I look forward to discussing books with you! :)

message 1210: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (meowchelle7) Hey I'm Michelle,

I'm 13 (14 this August!) and I live in Southern California. I loooove to read. I never have enough time to read due to all the homework I get, but I try my best to read as much as I can because it's so fun. I love Japanese and Russian culture, and my favorite book series is the Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. I also love animals and hope to be a vet someday. I'm learning how to play the guitar and my favorite band is VersaEmerge. I hope to visit at least 5 different countries in my life (only been in two, the US and Taiwan). Thanks for taking the time to read this. Looks like a lovely group.

~Michelle

message 1213: by Debra (new)

Debra Driza (debradriza) | 11 comments Hi everyone!

My name is Debra Driza, and I live in Southern California. I have 2 small children (3 and 7), 3 dogs, and 1 extremely messy husband. Prior to kids, I worked as a physical therapist, but now I'm a stay-at-home mom and writer (you'd think this would lead to a cleaner house, but alas--no such luck).

About 95% of what I read these days is YA--love it! :)

Looking forward to reading with you all!

message 1214: by Jim (new)

Jim | 5 comments Hi, Jim Devitt here. I too am an aspiring YA writer. Just finished a YA action/mystery novel. I'm blogging about the process, going the POD route and will share all the ups and downs with the public world. http://jimdevitt.blogspot.com/

Thanks for having me!

message 1215: by Maeva (new)

Maeva | 1 comments Hey, I'm Maeva. My addiction towards books has already reached the point of terminal stage of illness, but, well, I don't want to cure it.

I read lots of YA, and lots of Fantasy. I'm thrilled to be in this group. So, thanks for having me! :)

message 1216: by mstan (new)

mstan Hi everyone, I am a tenth-grade teacher in Singapore. I enjoy YA tremendously and have just started rediscovering it when looking for titles to recommend to my students!

message 1217: by Maria (new)

Maria (mariasm) hey guys! am from Manila who is so into YA genre right now :) thanks!

message 1218: by Pixie (new)

Pixie (PixieLynnWhitfield) | 4 comments Hello :)
I'm Pixie, 26 years old and from Texas. I'm not too new to the Goodreads' site, but I wasn't active much until the recent past couple of weeks because I finally learned how to use it a bit better (and got a bit more time on my hands finally haha). It seems like a really great site. Fitting for my booknerd ways at least. ;)
I'm an aspiring author trying to break into the publishing world, a book nerd, and history geek. I also love blogging as much as I can, whenever I can.

This looks like a really great group and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. :) I don't read just strictly YA, but it is a genre that I tend to lean toward enjoying more- especially in the last three or four years, where I've developed many of my all time favorites.

I look forward to meeting some new people, too.

Pixie

message 1219: by Jim (new)

Jim | 5 comments Welcome Pixie, I can relate as I am an aspiring author too!! Do you have a blog site?

message 1220: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephsco) ^ would love to hear if either of you have blogs you'd like to share!

I'm Stephanie. I've read YA here and there for awhile, but since determining my own WIP might fit in YA, I'm determined to focus more on the genre. I've read some really great, exciting books the past few months. Looking forward to "Vixen." I live in the Chicago suburbs, I'm married w/ no kids, trying to focus all that free time into writing and reading :)

message 1221: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephsco) @Pixie; found your blog link in your profile :)

message 1222: by Lily (new)

Lily Hi all,
I'm Huong, 18 years old and i live in Melbourne, Australia. I've always loved reading books but have recently steered more towards YA books. What i love about this genre is its ability to let you get lost in their world and allows me to better relate to the characters (at most times):)

What i need to do is, learn how to organise my time b/w uni assignments and reading books (so far reading books is winning).

I'm hoping to follow/read various YA book suggestions and get to know more people :D

message 1223: by Pixie (new)

Pixie (PixieLynnWhitfield) | 4 comments Stephanie wrote: "@Pixie; found your blog link in your profile :)"

Hey Stephanie :) Sorry that I didn't see your post until now, but glad you found the link, and I didn't know if I would have been able to post it here in the group or not since I'm new. I had sent it on with a private message earlier to Jim when he had asked. haha. But thank you. :) I'll be sure to check yours out, too.

Welcome to the group! :)

message 1225: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 4 comments Hi, my name is Ashley and I'm 19 years old. I live in Las Cruces, New Mexico and love YA fiction. I've been on GR for about 6 months and just recently became active in groups. I own the book for March but I don't think I'll be able to read it in time but I look forward to Vixen.

message 1226: by Jo (new)

Jo (jowillwrite) Hey guys!
My name is Jo, I'm 22 and I've just graduated from university with a degree in English with Film Studies. I'm relatively new to reading YA books (my uni reading list kind of took over my life!) but, as an aspiring YA writer, I wanted to join a book group so I could find out about new books and discuss them with fellow YA fans.
Can't wait for the first book!

message 1227: by Felicia (new)

Felicia I am mom to 4 kids from 4-14 and our eldest LOVES to read so I thought we would both get good ideas on good reads through your club! thank you Felicia

message 1228: by Shea (new)

Shea (narcohypnia) | 2 comments Hey! I'm Shea (pronounced Shay), I'm 14 and from the Philippines. I'm a high school student, but I take my classes online and go to school only once a week, so I tend to read a lot during those off-days. I try to read one book everyday, but my schedule went off course during my finals. I stalk groups like these a lot looking for book recommendations and I rarely post because of my innate fear of being a loser and sounding like a spazz (like I probably do now!).

So, yeah, that's it I think. I'm always really bad at endings so I'll just end this with a "Hope to see you guys around!" (:

message 1230: by Cindi (new)

Cindi Lee (Cindi_LeeJm) | 1 comments I don't think I did this yet! And if not, forgive my effrontery. My name is Cindi. Hailing all the way from the Caribbean. Jamaica to be exact. I finally stepped into the author world with my debut novel that came out March 1st. I can't even remember how I discovered goodreads, but I'm glad I did. It's a great community.

I like to read any genre. My tastes range as widely from Lord of the Flies to Christine Feehan's Dark series. But I'm a sucker for romance in any story.
I guess that's the girly girl in me. Although my first book is YA paranormal romance, I don't consider myself a "YA author". I think any genre I feel is within my capacity to write, I shall tackle that challenge head on.

3 few interesting tidbits about me!
1) I have a huge contact lens collection. Pink and otherwise ;)
2) My father races horses competitively
3) I'm a fitness junkie

Nice to meet you all!

message 1231: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (atekayla) Hello everyone! My name is Kayla, I'm 23 years old from Chicago, IL. I sometimes wonder if I'm getting too old for YA books, but I can't help myself! It's like a terrible addiction..

Anyways, ever since I learned how to read, I have loved reading! I ran out of space in my bookshelves once, so I cleaned out a drawer full of clothes and donated them to make room for more books! About 6 months ago, my boyfriend got me a Kindle so now I don't have to worry about making space for my books anymore :)

Janus Vielle wrote: "Hi everyone! I'm Janus. 22 years old from Manila. 3D Artist (aspiring actually) by day... Avid Reader by night, mostly YA... ^_^"

Hi Janus! I have family in Manila :) I am an avid reader at night as well!

Shea wrote: "Hey! I'm Shea (pronounced Shay), I'm 14 and from the Philippines... I stalk groups like these a lot looking for book recommendations and I rarely post because of my innate fear of being a loser and sounding like a spazz (like I probably do now!)."

Another Filipino! Yay! Don't worry, I stalk groups like these too... and I very rarely post as well because I'm shy and don't want people to think I sound stupid or anything (in fact, I reread and edit my posts several times before I submit it :X)

Diane wrote: "Hi everyone :)
I'm Diane. I am 18 years old from the Philippines. :)
I love reading YA books even though some people think I'm too old for them :P.

Hope we could be friends :)"

I'm 23 and the readers I know who are my age read more "adult" things over YA books so my YA book addiction is something I tend to hide.. but not here! :D

message 1232: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Tilton Holla!

I write YA and read a ton, game when my 20 month old lets me, have a 75 pit-bull that thinks it's a lap dog, happily married and in love with anything covered with chocolate.

and this is my first book club : )

message 1237: by thesebooksiread (new)

thesebooksiread Hi everybody! I am 27 *shudders* :) and I'm from Portland, Oregon. My two favorite pass times are reading and playing with my awesome puppy named Cora. She often is reading with me :) I love reading and I read quite a lot. I used to talk to my friend about all the books I was reading but I have gotten so far ahead of her that I love having this place to talk about books!
@Ange.... YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD FOR THESE BOOKS! My boyfriend and family tease me too about reading YA but they are great books and it makes me young again! :)

message 1238: by thesebooksiread (new)

thesebooksiread I never feel old reading them EXCEPT when I am in the section at the store and a very young girl comes up and grabs the same book... that's when I feel it.. and then she walks away and I think.. she wishes she was my age because then she could buy any book she wants and not have to ask for money or permission! the upside to being older :)

message 1239: by Kira (new)

Kira (chewablebook) | 19 comments hi, there. my name is Kira. I'm *cough* 23 *cough* and, oddly enough, I didn't really start getting into YA until after I graduated high school. (don't get me wrong, I read some, obviously, and liked them, but my favorite author at the time was Tami Hoag—definitely NOT YA, but I loved her thrillers. I was big on thrillers)

I am an aspiring author. I have decided one of my life's major goals is to hold at least one book in my hands that has MY name on its cover, and MY words in its pages. Most (though not all) of the stories I'm currently working on would fall into the YA category, which makes sense, as the large majority of books I've read and loved over the past few years have been the same.

I am an avid devourer of books, always have been (even though my evolvement through books has been weird: children's -> middle-grade -> adult -> YA—don't really know how that one happened). If it weren't for this insane need for nutrients in my body, I swear I could live off words and stories alone.

anyway, I think that probably serves well enough for an introduction, partly as that is all I can think of, but i look forward to getting to know the others in this group. :)

message 1240: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (gondorianjedi) Hi - I'm Kirsty, 26 soon to be 27, and YA is definately my favourite genre of book.
I think Harry Potter is definately the series that kicked off my YA habit, in high school I remember reading more adult books by authors like Stephen King and Jean. M. Auel. Now I definately voraciously read mostly YA, and try to keep up with the latest releases as they are released here in New Zealand.
I also love dystopian fiction and Zombie stories

Hi I'm Maria,

I'm current;y into dystopia, especially after the Hunger Games!!! I just discovered this website and am in love. :)

message 1244: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette (bridgykhan) I am Bridgette, a wife and mother of two living in the flat Midwest (I desperately miss the east coast!) I am a more than avid reader, with every intention of being an avid reviewer, but can't put a book down long enough to type one out. I am pretty sure I was born with a book in hand.

I have really found that I enjoy YA more than most adult fiction, but as long as I can get into the story within a reasonable number of pages, I will give anything a shot. I am excited to get involved with this discussion group!

message 1245: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 2 comments I am Ashley. I am 27 and a mother of a 5 month old. I love to read YA books and now that is what is easiest for me to read with the little one. Sarah Dessen is one of my favorites and got me started reading this genre again. Look forward to posting.

message 1246: by Literary Bookworm (new)

Literary Bookworm (litbookworm) | 5 comments Hello all! My name is Lindsey. Currently, I am graduate student studying to become a school librarian and I work full time as an instructional assistant at the high school level. I have always loved to read (studied English in undergrad). Upon taking a YA Lit course, I discovered my love of YA. To be quite honest, I am not really a fan of hard sci-fi or fantasy. However, I love dystopian fiction as well as realistic fiction. Some of my favorite authors include Laurie Halse Anderson, Ellen Hopkins, and Lauren Oliver.

One day I hope to be a writer, but right now I'll just stick with finishing up my courses and reading YA lit!
