Lee | 3 comments Book was published AT LEAST 20 years ago, but how much older than that I don't know.

It was a children/young-teen type novel.

I remember the cover art as having several rooms and people in those rooms doing different things. It was like someone from across the street was spying on the entire building.

I think it was a "who-dun-it" mystery type book, were the main protagonist (a young girl I believe) had to solve some kind of mystery regarding a murder.

The key thing that I remember most vividly was at the end a character is revealed to have dual identities, and I believe that character's name was Sandy, and I believe this person had been manipulating the mystery in the background the whole time.

Sorry, that's all I remember!

Sammy Keyes and the Hotel Thief Sammy Keyes and the Hotel Thief by Wendelin Van Draanen

Do you remember if this was a series?
Since it was a murder, do you think the book was geared toward/featured older teens?

Do you remember the setting (big city, rural, present time, set in 1920s, etc)?

Thanks, but not it! I'm pretty sure it was NOT a series. I have a feeling the main protagonist was more like 12-13 years old?

Don't remember the setting. The things that really stand out is the cover art I mentioned, and the character named Sandy. I keep thinking the plot of the book centered around having to figure out who murdered a character. And I think eventually the protagonist figured out this person "Sandy" has been the "murdered" character all along, that Sandy faked his own death for some reason...

The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin

Lee--you were the sixth person to ask for help finding this book. That means it's time to add it to my YA bookshelf. :o)

Congrats on finding it.
