I really liked the way the narrator is super unreliable and he is almost certainly lying embellishing about stuff. Also that current him isn't playing music and can't seem to use magic or refuses to use it anymore this is probably related to something tragic that occurs in the 3rd/final book which will be a good reveal. While I enjoyed almost all the current time scenes that is no excuse for how outrageously generic, boring and slow the flashback scenes were considering they were the vast majority of the plot.

Quantum Thief only missed being nominated by one vote. And I was going to nominate it that year, but didn't because I thought it wan't eligible. (I mixed up the US and UK publishing dates). It should have been a nominee - I've always felt bad about that.
