There have been some great suggestions. I am kidding myself saying I'll buy whatever we end up deciding on. I'll end up buying them all.

Some great picks, I'd definitely read Something Wicked This Way Comes or Urban Gothic or Bad Apples: Five Slices of Halloween Horror. What's with all the author self promotion, it's getting really annoying. :(
Awesome suggestions, the only one I've read was the Troop. I can't wait to vote!!! I'm still hoping for HELP! A Bear is Eating Me! since I bought it due to Tressa's review, but I'll be joining no matter what wins!

I would like to read The Troop http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17...
I wouldn't mind having Jon pick this month's read: he has excellent taste in literature, and this IS the best time of year for those Halloween/horror reads......
For those that haven't already read it, BAD APPLES (an anthology of 5 Halloween themed tales), was incredible--not a bad story among them!

Jon's taste is impeccable. I was already (at least in my own mostly-humble opinion) pretty well read before coming here, but Jon has led me to some of my very best reads of the past eighteen months. He truly knows his stuff.

Agreed. He has introduced me to some authors that I can't believe I had never read before! And with all the recommendations coming in this time around, that may not be a bad idea (having the mods pick this one)...

That makes sense, Kimberly. Glad to hear you've been influenced by Jon, too.
Kimberly wrote: "HARVEST MOON, by James A. Moore. A fall, supernatural, halloween tale all in one! :)"Great suggestion- never heard of that one before, I just wish listed it! Thanks.

Hi!Hello everyone!
i'm new here but i''ve been asked, so what about Reflections
?Normally i'm a avid stephen king fan! But i wanted to expand my reading!
And i really enjoyed reading this one!
The Troop is great - I listened to the audiobook a few months back. I guess it just doesn't strike me as an October group read, though, but that's probably just my bias for ghostly things. :-)
Love this thread, picked up so many great suggestions, keep them going! :)I just want it to be something scary and not slow-paced like We need to talk about Kevin. The Troop looks like something that would give me chills, I vote for that one!

lol Both watch and read several times every October.
I definitely want to read the Troop at some point, but now the mor I think of it it doesn't seem like an October read
Suggestion: if a general consensus is reached to make the October read a Halloween novel, one way this could be done would be to require that any proposed novels have the word 'Halloween' in the title or that Halloween must play an important role in the story (i.e., Lisa Cantrell's The Manse).

I haven't read that one yet, but it sounds good.
Still rooting for James A. Moore's HARVEST MOON--it's perfect for the season!

All right, folks! Submissions are at an END!We have so many suggestions this month! It's crazy, but also nice that you all are so invested in this group. I'll put a link in this thread to the poll later this evening. If your book does not make it, remember that there is a thread for Buddy Reads. You don't have to wait on the Book of The Month to get in some reading goodness.
For those of you who value Jon's wonderful suggestions, he has something planned for you all. I'm not going to spoil it, but let's just say we are excited about it and he has worked very hard.
Thanks~

Okay, now I'm REALLY intrigued. Jon's recommendations are some of the best I've ever had. I'm excited to hear what he has in store.
I love surprises! And I do have to say that anything Jon reads, I'll read. That's how I found out about Bird Box! Im not nominating, jus sayin:) It was a great book!
I have to say, I probably wouldn't have read THE BIRD BOX either, before seeing Jon's rec. VERY glad I did. I'm up for whatever surprises he has in store!!!! :)
I've decided to abstain from voting. For one thing, I've read most of the books; secondly, the ones I haven't (the Moore and the Cutter) I've heard great things about and don't want to leave out. And if I vote for the one I nominated (DARK HARVEST), I'll feel disloyal to SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES and THE EXORCIST, both of which are among my favorites. And yes, I'm completely silly to worry about this. Only in my twisted mind is this any kind of a problem. :-)

That would add an entirely new dimension of internal conflict for me. My mind would be saying, "You're an idiot, Jonathan, for not voting for your own work!" while my heart would be whispering, "Blatty…Bradbury…Partridge…Blatty…Bradbury…Partridge…"

Ironically, the only one I haven't read yet is THE TROOP, and I'm planning on reading that one in a group read in a few weeks, so I didn't need to vote for that one. The others were all fantastic, but I'm particularly fond of James Moore's books, in general. :)

I haven't read Moore, but I've interacted with him on Facebook, and he's a heck of a nice guy. Plus, Brian Keene recommends Moore's work, and that's more than enough for me.

I'd like to participate, but I just want to read something someone suggests. I would particularly like a Halloween/autumn theme!
