What have You been Reading this August?

Finished A Demon in the Desert today, only 200 pages so sped through it quite fast. Rated it 3.5/5 stars, quite enjoyable read. It had very much a side quest video game RPG vibe that I really enjoyed and reminded me a bit of The Last Wish (first Witcher book). For gamers if you can think of side quests in games like Fable, Skyrim etc where you can choose to investigate a haunting or strange monster/supernatural activities at a farm or in a town, it has that sort of atmosphere to it. Personally I enjoyed that a lot, plus the humour was definitely up my alley as well.

Decided to try out the second book next, Demon Haunted.

I picked up my copy of Gilden-Fire when it was first published in paperback - back in 1984. I might be misinterpreting what you wrote Andrea, but all the tales in Daughter of Regals were written by Donaldson, but my recollection is that none of them are set in The Land, so they won't be part of my Thomas Covenant odyssey :)

Daughters of Regals includes Gilden-Fire, I know since that was the reason why I bought it, so I could claim I completed reading the Chronicles. The rest of the stories are indeed not related but just thought if you were a Donaldson fan you might be interested.

That's interesting. My copy of Daughter of Regals and Other Tales doesn't include Gilden-Fire, although it is listed in the other books by page - as are both of the Thomas Covenant trilogies. My copy is the UK hardcover from 1984, so I wonder if you have a US publication - there may well have been a difference in content.

Still reading Age of Assassins, which is chock-full of editing errors. A 7-year-old could edit this and do better than the author or whoever “edited” it.

I really, really enjoyed the Traitor Son Cycle (series that the Red Knight is a part of)! The battle scenes are awesome, the portrayal of medieval chivalry, the magic systems, the various creatures/monsters, and some really well written characters in general. Hope you enjoy it as well!

After finishing Traitor Son Cycle series, jumped in to Dark Age. Dark, is putting it mildly, definitively one of the darkest books I’ve read, but if you’ve read the previous in the series, then it’s a must read.

I have a 1983 hardcover from Del Rey which is American so that's probably why.

My 1984 paperback copy of Daughter of Regals also includes Gilden-Fire.

I’m busy battling my way through Eye of the World by Robert Jordan. It’s not going well reading-wise haha. It’s taking me forever! Has anyone else read the series Wheel of Time? Tell me that I can do this! Haha

I read the entire Wheel of Time series, over the course of several months - I don't remember how long it took me. I read the majority of the books in the French translation, borrowing them from the local library; then, because that translation was never completed, I purchased and read the last volumes in English - and even made a summary translation of each chapter in French for my mother who was also reading the series. I got very fond of the main characters, so that I never grew bored while reading, and actually liked that long series very much.

My bf has probably reread that series like more 10x or so. It's his all time favorite.

Wee had a buddy read of Eye of the World some months back, broken into chapters if you'd care to follow along & comment as you go. (It didn't seem to follow into the other books, though. :( )

I've read every WoT book at least twice, the early books more so because I was reading as they were published and kept needing to refresh my memory of the early ones. I've probably read Eye at least 10x by now, but the last one, A Memory of Light, only twice (so far.)
