Shanna_redwind | 852 comments I read this book in high school in the late 80's or early 90's. It was a hard cover, and in good condition, but whether that's because it was new or unpopular I'm not sure.

The main characters were cats that were sentient. There were no humans to my memory.

I think they lived in clans. I remember that the male had a spiked penis and it caused the female pain (some things somehow stick in a teenagers mind)

I also remember that one of the cats, not sure if it was the main character, had kittens that weren't sentient, that were just animals, and I think the father admitted that happened in his bloodline sometimes.

This is really not what you're looking for, but have you read the Warriors series? It at least has a similar premise.
Into the Wild (Warriors, #1) by Erin Hunter .

Shanna_redwind | 852 comments Thanks for the thought Andy, but that's not it. I think that the one I'm thinking of is kind of like Clan of the Cave Bear, but with cats.

Raevyn, I've seen the series, but never read them. I might check them out sometime.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Maybe, The Named series?
https://www.goodreads.com/series/4340...

The description of the 3rd book mentions "languageless, unnamed cats."
Ratha and Thistle-Chaser

If not:
Do you remember the setting of the book?
Anything about the cover(s)?

Was it geared towards teens or adults?
