The Lost Art of Mixing by Erica Bauermeister
Qualification: Has flowers on cover
Rating: 4 stars
Review:
This is the second book in this series. The first was so so beautiful. The second was just as beautiful but not quite 5 stars. Probbaly more like 4.5 It is just about people's lives. It's that simple. But the author has a way of weaving you into the story that makes you feel like you've know these people all your life.

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments So, I read the BOM for this month and put it up in our Regeneration but can't figure out if we can use the same book for regeneration and a round? Anyone know?

We can read in different languages, right?"

I believe so - I don't see why not?

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Okay so it looks like we have:

10 tagged MPG Crime KERRI
9 that has the letters A-R-S-E-N-I-C in the title ( in any order) ZOE
8 that was published in the 1980s SARAH
7 with a detective whose initials can be found in the word poison NO ONE YET
6 set in Scandinavia ZUZA
5 that is more than 500 pages SARAH - MAYBE?
4 from an author who was NOT born in the USA, Canada or UK KERRI
3 that is #3 in a series ZOE - DONE
2 with one or more flowers on the cover ZOE - DONE
1 that is on the Foreign Lands list ZUZA

Anyone wanting to do #7? I am in a school intensive all this weekend (and working, ugh) so I don't think I can finish more than one book between now and Sunday but maybe...

Book: Murder on the Orient Express
Task: #10 - MPG Crime (marked as Mystery > Crime)
Rating: 3 stars
Review: This was an enjoyable read! I've been reading this murder mystery for forever and I'm glad I finally did. It was a lot more humorous than I was expecting, but it was still twisty and thrilling. The ending was a bit of a stretch, for me, but I still liked it. Now I want to read more Agatha Christie!

message 156: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments hm ok. I had a book for 2 but that's fine. I'll do 8 for sure and keep looking at 5.

In that case, I’m gonna change my book for #4 to Gods of Jade and Shadow. It’s shorter and the author was born in Mexico.

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments I finally found something for #7 I think I can finish it before Sunday! I’ll post a selection post when I’m at my computer

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Crap no. I won’t have time to finish it. Anyone else??

Isn't this molten stunning?

Unfortunately, you are in MOLTEN and have failed to complete the countdown tasks beforeour countdown.

This means you have been sprayed with some hot lava and lose 10 points for each book in the countdown stage not completed.

You can chose to finish your countdown books during this round for the 10 points per book, OR you can move straight on to the SafeZone groups for the 30+ points per book...

If you have a book in progress for Countdown, but didn't finish it before the Countdown hit zero then you can use that book for the SafeZone - no penalties will accrue in that instance only, but the timing constraints of the SafeZones will apply (i.e. if you use it for SafeZone 3, make sure you finish it only after you have completed SafeZone 1 and/or 2)

message 166: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Thanks Moderators!

Team - I’m thinking we do safezone books and apply whatever we’ve been working to finish towards those, if possible, since they are worth more points anyway. What do y’all think?

message 167: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Okay I figured I would go ahead and find a word that works with a book I just finished outside of this group and the one I just started. So I started spelling out FLOWERS. I have F and S covered. Can anyone else add in their round 1 books to that or read a book that works for L-O-W-E-R?

message 168: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments We should do the safezones for sure. But don't we need to finish the safezone 1 and/or 2 to start safezone 3?

message 169: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Definitely agree with doing the safezones, but I’m not sure about whether we have to finish them in order or if we can just skip to safezone 3. I’ll have to check when I have access to a computer.

message 170: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Just found this:

HINT: As group 3 is so broad, you’d only get into group 3 if you had finished 1 or 2 (or decided not to do one or both of them).

So as long as we don’t do Safezones 1 and 2, we are good.

message 171: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments So I think I can do W and E as well. Hopefully we have enough time! :) So could everyone do one book each you think? L, O, and R? Or if there’s a W or E that you’re itching to read let me know. I have a bunch to choose from right now. My holds at the library are coming in all at once!

Well this was....odd it wasn’t bad. I enjoyed it while listening. But the ending felt abrupt to me. And there were definitely a few content warning moments. Nothing that went so far to make me put it down though. More like hints of things. Anyway, interesting but not te best ever.

Review: It's YA supernatural fiction, y'all. I feel lik it would've been much better had she or her friend had actually called out the guys for being super creepy and possesive. Like maybe just once "Hey dudes, I don't belong to anyone but myself, but thanks". But the romance piece, I know is juvenile, but I still think that it then, in turn, teaches young adults/teens/middle graders that certain things in relationships are okay. Anyway, the story itself is fun and the writing isn't bad. Would've received aother star had they just once acknolwedged the above.

Zuza | 168 comments Switching to Já a holka odvedle by Jared Reck for R. This Recursion book requires a lot of thinking and I need the exact opposite ....

message 186: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Yay! We finished Flowers!

Sarah - do you want to take next week off and see if you still want to participate? I read a ton so you don’t need to, if you need the time. Though I think everyone is required to read to get full points? Kerri - is that correct? Do what you need to do Sarah - there are people who still want to join a team too, I think, so don’t feel like you have to for us!

message 187: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments That is correct, unfortunately. This is the last round, though, so that's something to keep in mind.

Sarah, have you picked a task?

message 197: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Yeah Zuza, looks like it. I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish for Sunday evening either, if that’s when it ends.
