For the "person’s name in the title” pick for the August book of the month, the group will be reading Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.

Question: What do you think of the book so far? Reactions?

Ok I've finished. I was expecting more. After the build up of the last few chapters I was really getting excited about it, and I felt disappointed with the ending. I was expecting more of a twist I guess. And I felt it kinda just ended....

It did end really abruptly. Still loved it.

I thought the second half of the book was really good, it just took too many boring chapters to get there. I actually liked the ending - the writing on the last few pages was amazing and a fitting end for these characters.

That pretty much sums up my feelings as well.

I'm glad I've read it. I don't need to read it again, especially as now I know the twists and turns.

I think it was suicide, she just used Max as the method.
Also from the point of view of the 'establishment' he is an important figure in the local community, well liked and respected. They would feel it was for the greater good to let him maintain that status.
Of course Mrs Danvers puts paid to any hope of returning to normal and the local community looses Max and the estate, with the stability (financial and otherwise) this brings.
And the new Mrs DeWinter looses her innocence - no one goes unpunished here (hide spoiler)]

In my opinion one of the best books I've ever read.

I feel like one more chapter would have been good to tie things together, or to bring us back to the first chapters when she explains their current situation. But it was a really good book and the audio version was fantastic!

I liked the unexpectedness of the abrupt ending.
