Blue | 825 comments I think this book was most likely translated into English. My friend had it as a child and I lost touch with him.

It was about two elves who leave home to go on an adventure.

They meet St Nicholas, Santa, Father Christmas, etc

It is a picture book with a lot of text, hardbound and I read it probably 1997 to 2000ish.

Elves wore red and blue and green.

Blue | 825 comments I remember another thing.

The elves lived on a windowsill before they went on the adventure and I think they may have been in Scandinavia somewhere.

My friend got the book from his Oma and Opa who were dutch.

Twelve Gifts for Santa Claus?"

Neither of those but thank you for trying.

The art work was more realistic not cartoony if that helps any.

The elves appeared at parade at one point and spoke to Black Peter.

It's really annoying me that I cannot remember more.

Rainbowheart | 28699 comments Definitely sounds Dutch if Black Peter was involved.

Blue | 825 comments Well they travel and visit different incarnations of Father Christmas.

I remember the Black Peter one because there was a carnival.

There is a strong possibility that it was a dutch book translated given my friend got it from his Oma and Opa.

I wish I was still in contact with him to ask, but he moved away and we lost touch.

Rainbowheart | 28699 comments Santa's Christmas Surprise?

Worldcat mentions elves from many nations and cultures.

Blue | 825 comments It doesn't look like the book but I will check it out just in case.

It is the Santas that are from different countries.

Santa = North America
Father Christmas = UK
St Nicholas = Holland
Etc

Rainbowheart | 28699 comments Yeah, I figured it didn't sound quite right.

Trying another tack, I did find some books with Santa customs from around the world.

Santa Around the World?

Felix's Christmas Around the World?

The second one was translated from German.

This is driving me mental. I really need to find this book.

Blue | 825 comments I think the elves were blonde and wore red and blue clothing. The woman they lived with at the beginning had blonde hair too and I think she wore glasses.

The woman may have owned a cat.
