Nominations for Next Series (or 2)

I will nominate the Karavans trilogy by Jennifer Roberson, starting with Karavans. I have read many of Roberson's other books, but not this series, and the group has not read any of her books.

Starting with: Sheepfarmer's Daughter
And I will second the Karavans series

I nominate the traitor son cycle by Miles Cameran and I will second The Deed of Paksenarrion series

I've read only the first book a long time ago, and then life got in the way and I never picked it up again, but it was a pretty unique book and fun to read if I remember correctly.
Our polls usually have a few more options, so I am going to leave nominations open for another few days in hopes of generating a bit more interest.

Sydney, could you specify which part(s) of this series you are nominating? I am not familiar with these books and it appears there are 3 connected books, then a prequel and a book of connected short stories, then a book with the main character from the first 3 novels, and then a number of books in the same world but with other characters, including a book expected to be published next year.
If you are nominating the original trilogy, that’s fine. I will add it to the list. If you are nominations this whole series, then it would be disqualified according to our guidelines because it appears to not be completed yet.
Thanks for any clarification you can give.

I will second Nightrunner. I loved the Tamil Triad and am interested in reading more by this author.

I'd like to nominate the series that starts with Inda by Sherwood Smith.
Given that it's less well-known, I'll say a few words about it.
My first impression of it was kind of "Ender's Game in a fantasy setting," in that the protagonist is a precociously brilliant tactician who goes to his country's military academy, but it's really a lot more than that. The strength of the book and the series is the depth of the characters and their relationships. I wouldn't call it Grimdark, but Sherwood Smith isn't afraid to kill off characters, and the effect is that you're really not sure who's going to make it to the end of the book, never mind the series (although you can imagine from the title that Inda himself has a good shot). The world-building is also good, particularly as it relates to the cultures shown. They're unique, with depth and verisimilitude.

I plan to keep nominations open until the weekend. We’ll see what get seconded.

I love Ender's Game, and this book sounds very interesting, I'll be adding it to my TBR, thanks for mentioning it. Sadly I can't second it since I already used that right once but hopefully someone else will :)

I received a message from member Richard, nominating the Deryni series by Katherine Kurtz. I asked him to make the nomination here in the group rather than via message, and to clarify if he is nominating all 16 books in that series or a specific arc or arcs.
I am also waiting for a response from Sydney regarding the nomination of the Black Jewels series, since I don’t know if only the original trilogy is being nominated or all 6 or 7 connected books.

Nominations will close tomorrow (Saturday, August 17]. I will post the poll on Sunday, August 18. If anyone who has not already seconded a series wants to use their second and get another option into the polls, do it soon!
Nominations are closed. Sadly, we had several series nominated but not seconded, but we do have 5 great choices.
The poll is up and voting will be open through August 24.

So, I am opening nominations for series to follow one or both of our current series. (Maggie, the other mod, and I will figure that out as we take nominations, and you will know before the polls open if we are choosing one or two series.)
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Rules for nominating a series:
1. The series must be complete.
2. The series must be fantasy (I know, seems obvious).
3. The series should not be targeted mainly for middle school or a YA audience.
4. The series must not have been one the group has already read. Look through the website or the group bookshelf to see if we’ve read it before.
5. Each member may nominate one series. Please tell us the name of the series, the author, and the first book in the series. If you want to add more information, please feel free.
6. Each member may second one series in addition to making a nomination.
7. In order to move into the polling, a nomination must be seconded by someone other than the nominator.
8. Nominations will be open until August 14 (2 weeks). We will then have a poll. If the results are close, we may have a run-off poll between or among the top vote-getters. ***Edited to add that the nomination period has been extended in hopes of generating a few more choices.
Nominations are open! Let’s go!
Thanks,
Kathi, for the mods
