Inheritance (spoiler)

I was a bit confused by the way that the inheritance was explained at the end of the book. The only way I can make sense of it is that Marcus's father was already divorced from his mother when he was killed. Was that the case?

[Sandy]

I don't know that they actually ever were married but not sure about that. I understood that the inheritance had to pass down to direct family (ie. blood relative) so even though Marcus' father was dead by then his mother couldn't inherit because she's not actually related to Marcus' gr.gr. grandfather, just an in-law, at best.
