What are you Reading right now? Part 2.

3/4 of the way through Mercenary Mage by J.J. Green Mercenary Mage It is a combination of space opera and fantasy if like me you consider characters who use magic, regardless of where they are in the universe and how many spaceships they are on, as part of the fantasy genre. I like the series; I like most of Green's books I have read.
Finished book 2 of the EarthCen Universe, Assisted Living. Book 3 came out on April 1, so I put it in my line up.
Read book 3 of Bad Luck Charlie and hoping to read the rest of the series along with the last 3 books of the Silver Ship series.
Once again, my list of want to reads exceeds the amount of time left on my KU free subscription and not sure how far I will get. I don't expect this time they will offer me another free month, though I can hope.
Finished the third book of the series that starts with Legacy. Sort of a cliffhanger ending. There is a fourth book written but it hasn’t been published yet.
Not sure what I’ll be reading next.

In the middle of reading Winterstar by Blaze Ward, recently published. I have mixed feelings about this book. Like the characters, but part of the book is horror (and worse if you are female).
I’ve been reading the Space Orphan series by Laer Carroll. It’s completely unbelievable but for some reason fits my current mood. Main character is impossibly competent at far too many things.

Rereading
Ingathering: The Complete People Stories by Zenna Henderson for the first time in decades, since it’s finally available as ebook. SF yes. A few ships yes. Aliens that can pass for humans most of the time but that have psychic powers. Most of the action takes place on Earth, in North America of the 1800s and early 1900s.

I also read book 3 EarthCen Universe called Con Living.

Just started The Last Emperox by John Scalzi, the third in the Interdependency series. I just started it, so I'm still open. I enjoyed the first two books of the series, but I'm not sure I'll read the series again.
Currently reading the latest book in The Silver Ships series:
Earthers by S.H. Jucha. Haven’t completely finished rereading the Zenna Henderson collection - got distracted by new books.

In the meantime, I have enough ebooks I purchased or received from some authors, along with paper ones I had bought, I have enough to cover my reading needs for the rest of the year. (At last count that group was at 66), That does not include my 500+ books in my original reading list.
I reread
Quarter Share by Nathan Lowell which is one of this month’s group reads.
Just started
The Shaman of Karres by Eric Flint, which was published Tuesday. It’s the fourth book in the series starting with
The Witches of Karres by James H. Schmitz. Going by books 2 and 3 it won’t be as much fun as the first but it will be worth reading, and possibly worth rereading but not regularly.

Just started

I finished my reread of Quarter Share, plus Half Share and Full Share. Sooo good...
I’m currently reading the newest book in the series starting with
Bob's Saucer Repair by Jerry Boyd. This book is titled Secret Squirrels.
After I finish that I really need to reread
Mouse and Dragon by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, because I seconded it.

After I finish that I really need to reread

I enjoyed Secret Squirrels and ended up rereading
Bob's Saucer Repair by Jerry Boyd. Currently rereading the second in the series. Not sure how many of these I’ll reread; I started reading them for the first time just last year and normally wait at least a year before rereading a book.

As part of my prime membership or whatever I still got a free prime borrow for May. So i borrowed book 4 of The Wall series that was just released

After I am caught up in that universe I am headed over to Lindsay Buroker's Star Kingdom.

So I read:
The entire Pip and Flinx series, thanks to you guys!
Star surgeon by Alan E Nourse

The stars are legion by Kameron Hurley

The Luna trilogy by Ian McDonald

Charles Yu' s How to live safely in a science fictionnal universe

Diaspora by Greg Eagan

Bypass Gemini by Joseph Lallo

Station by Al Robertson

Gunpowder Moon by David Peidrera

Deep Navigation

Aliette de Bodard's The Tea Master and the Detective

Ember of Wars by Gareth Powell

Children of Time and Children of Ruin

Alastair Alastair Reynolds' Permafrost

The last Becky Chambers To be taught, if fortunate

Stay safe.

August! 😯

There's another series with Ishmael and Pip, beginning with In Ashes Born.

Yes indeed! In Ashes Born is great, and so is the trilogy starting with Milk Run which is set in the same universe (main characters are female, some appearances by characters that are in the Ish books).
I’ve been rereading the series that starts with
Bob's Saucer Repair by Jerry Boyd. Just finished #6. I’m going to wait a while to reread #7, because it was published in January of this year. I’m rather surprised that I didn’t hit “this is too soon to reread” earlier in the series.

I really appreciate that she edits these books so well, I am not sending in corrections. I didn't see a single typo or errors in punctuation and grammar. It feels like ages since that happened. (The last mainstream author's printed book I bought, there was a typo in the last chapter.)

Currently rereading
A Call to Duty by David Weber and coauthors. Will likely reread the second and third. There’s a fourth coming out eventually but it’s not even out as eARC yet.
Same universe as the Honor Harrington books, but a long time before them.

Update: don’t bother, unless you enjoy cringey Mary Sue sex.

We seem to be the minority. Other readers I know loved it. I didn't. I didn't hate it but one book was more than enough of these characters and this universe. Pretty much the whole thing made me cringe.

As I was still on holigays and not lockdowned anymore (but still limited to 100 km from home) I read:
Velocity weapon by Megan O'Keefe

The last emperox by John Scalzy

The 5th book of the Murderbot Diaries

Bad Luck Charlie by Scott Byron

Semiosis by Sue Burke

It's been years since I read it. I don't remember sex scenes so I must have skipped them, too. My main memory is thinking that Grimspace was a description as well as title. It was grim.

Read Return to Sol which is next to the last book in the Orion War series of Aeon14. M.D. Cooper

I just read the description of the first book in the series and I thought, “Didn’t I just read this?” Turns out that The Wrong Stars has a nearly identical setup as Destiny Lost, which came out a year earlier. So folks who like one might like the other.
I finished the three books of the series starting with
A Call to Duty by David Weber. I’m looking forward to the 4th but that is still months in the future.
I had hopes for the latest book in the
Janissaries series by Jerry Pournelle, but gave up without even finishing the free preview. Maybe the next time I’m in the mood to reread the series it will have more appeal.
Right now I’m rereading the series that starts with
Take the Star Road by Peter Grant. Main character is not quite 19yo at the start of the first book. The series spans at least a decade.
This weekend I plan to skim
Bob's Saucer Repair by Jerry Boyd. I reread it recently, and want to find something to comment on in the BOTM thread.

I have also been reading David Drake's Lt. Leary series. I like it but can only read a couple in a row because, despite like his writing style, the stories start to feel too much the same.

I’m currently rereading various fantasy books, and keeping my eyes peeled for new space opera that looks interesting.

Ouch. Harsh criticism from the Reread Queen. 👸
