What are you Reading right now? Part 2.
Finished book 2 of The Evolution Gene by Aaron Hodges - not space opera. I liked book 1, but book 2 didn't make me want to rush to read book 3 of the trilogy.3/4 of the way through Mercenary Mage by J.J. Green Mercenary Mage It is a combination of space opera and fantasy if like me you consider characters who use magic, regardless of where they are in the universe and how many spaceships they are on, as part of the fantasy genre. I like the series; I like most of Green's books I have read.
Finished book 2 of the EarthCen Universe, Assisted Living. Book 3 came out on April 1, so I put it in my line up.
Read book 3 of Bad Luck Charlie and hoping to read the rest of the series along with the last 3 books of the Silver Ship series.
Once again, my list of want to reads exceeds the amount of time left on my KU free subscription and not sure how far I will get. I don't expect this time they will offer me another free month, though I can hope.
Finished the third book of the series that starts with Legacy. Sort of a cliffhanger ending. There is a fourth book written but it hasn’t been published yet.
Not sure what I’ll be reading next.
Not sure what I’ll be reading next.
In the middle of reading Winterstar by Blaze Ward, recently published. I have mixed feelings about this book. Like the characters, but part of the book is horror (and worse if you are female).
I’ve been reading the Space Orphan series by Laer Carroll. It’s completely unbelievable but for some reason fits my current mood. Main character is impossibly competent at far too many things.
books 13 and 14 of the Silver Ships by Jucha. Sadly, won't get the last one in before my KU expires.
I've been trying to read Dichronauts by Greg Egan. I've found the material a little over my head, and am very grateful that he wrote several blogs and small mini-game to introduce the topics. (https://www.gregegan.net/DICHRONAUTS/...)
Rereading
Ingathering: The Complete People Stories by Zenna Henderson for the first time in decades, since it’s finally available as ebook. SF yes. A few ships yes. Aliens that can pass for humans most of the time but that have psychic powers. Most of the action takes place on Earth, in North America of the 1800s and early 1900s.

i just finish the mind bending, but not space opera, sci-fi thriller Recursion by Blake Crouch. Now I have started Dragon King Charlie, the third book of the series by Scott Baron.
Finished Magic Man Charlie (Book #4), but that series will go on the back burner for the near future (I am going with the believe that Amazon is not going to give me another free month - don't think I can handle an 8th free month). I also read book 3 EarthCen Universe called Con Living.
. I really like this series. PG and the retired age group getting a whole new lease on life and seeing the galaxy with an AI ship that insists on exercise, work and in book 3 puts on a fan convention. Having been to many conventions in my younger days - mostly Star Trek and B5 - it was a lot of smiles and laughs for me.
Just started The Last Emperox by John Scalzi, the third in the Interdependency series. I just started it, so I'm still open. I enjoyed the first two books of the series, but I'm not sure I'll read the series again.
Currently reading the latest book in The Silver Ships series:
Earthers by S.H. Jucha. Haven’t completely finished rereading the Zenna Henderson collection - got distracted by new books.

Right now, reading Earthlight by Arthur C. Clarke. Haven't read this one before but it's very much like a lot of Clarke - more exposition than dialog. The story is great (if a little dated) and the writing is excellent.
I manage to finish book 15 of The Silver Ships before my last month of KU expired. They didn't offer me a free renewal this time. However, as a kindle e-reader owner (or maybe it's being a prime member), I get to borrow 1 book each month from KU. Since I had 3 days left in April, I borrowed Book 16, Earthers by S.H. Jucha and am about 25% into it. In the meantime, I have enough ebooks I purchased or received from some authors, along with paper ones I had bought, I have enough to cover my reading needs for the rest of the year. (At last count that group was at 66), That does not include my 500+ books in my original reading list.
I reread
Quarter Share by Nathan Lowell which is one of this month’s group reads.
Just started
The Shaman of Karres by Eric Flint, which was published Tuesday. It’s the fourth book in the series starting with
The Witches of Karres by James H. Schmitz. Going by books 2 and 3 it won’t be as much fun as the first but it will be worth reading, and possibly worth rereading but not regularly.

I finished my reread of Quarter Share, plus Half Share and Full Share. Sooo good...
I’m currently reading the newest book in the series starting with
Bob's Saucer Repair by Jerry Boyd. This book is titled Secret Squirrels.
After I finish that I really need to reread
Mouse and Dragon by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, because I seconded it.

Just finished Quarter Share. It was good. Hoping Ish will find some romance. Think I'll read the rest of the series now.
I enjoyed Secret Squirrels and ended up rereading
Bob's Saucer Repair by Jerry Boyd. Currently rereading the second in the series. Not sure how many of these I’ll reread; I started reading them for the first time just last year and normally wait at least a year before rereading a book.

Just finished Full Share. The gut wrenching emotions of leaving the only home you know and a love interest, the a plot twist. Oh my.
Now that my KU is expired, I read some of the books I had purchased but hadn't read yet. Book 4 of The Atlantis Grail series by Vera Nazarian; and several in the Aeon14 Universe -
,
, Race Across Spacetime,
, and now on
. As part of my prime membership or whatever I still got a free prime borrow for May. So i borrowed book 4 of The Wall series that was just released
. I had read the first 3 on KU. So, KU resulted in more books being added to my want to read list. After I am caught up in that universe I am headed over to Lindsay Buroker's Star Kingdom.

4 starsA series by Stéphane Przybylski
in French. Uchrony. Interresting. It was like before the X files. Aliens during WW2. With flying saucers!Unearthed by Amie Kaufman

I am waiting for the French translation (september). Not that I can't read it in English but if I buy a series in paperbook, I prefer it to be in the same language. So I bought the 1st one in French ... Translation can take a while ...

There's another series with Ishmael and Pip, beginning with In Ashes Born.

Yes indeed! In Ashes Born is great, and so is the trilogy starting with Milk Run which is set in the same universe (main characters are female, some appearances by characters that are in the Ish books).
I’ve been rereading the series that starts with
Bob's Saucer Repair by Jerry Boyd. Just finished #6. I’m going to wait a while to reread #7, because it was published in January of this year. I’m rather surprised that I didn’t hit “this is too soon to reread” earlier in the series.

Read Book 6 of Star Kingdom.
was great. A series where the nerd is the hero, spaceships with both robots and Knights of the kingdom. And, it makes me laugh several times throughout. I like Lindsay Buroker's writing. I really appreciate that she edits these books so well, I am not sending in corrections. I didn't see a single typo or errors in punctuation and grammar. It feels like ages since that happened. (The last mainstream author's printed book I bought, there was a typo in the last chapter.)
Just started the audiobook of Grimspace. Sort of Space Opera in the first few chapters. Since the main character is a rare person who can navigate grimspace (aka hyperspace, subspace, warp drive, etc.), I expect more spaceships later.
Currently rereading
A Call to Duty by David Weber and coauthors. Will likely reread the second and third. There’s a fourth coming out eventually but it’s not even out as eARC yet.
Same universe as the Honor Harrington books, but a long time before them.

We seem to be the minority. Other readers I know loved it. I didn't. I didn't hate it but one book was more than enough of these characters and this universe. Pretty much the whole thing made me cringe.
Thanks for the warning !As I was still on holigays and not lockdowned anymore (but still limited to 100 km from home) I read:
Velocity weapon by Megan O'Keefe
wich was entertaining, so 3 stars. The last emperox by John Scalzy
the end of the trilogy wich I enjoyed. I think the end came quite fast but the end is ok.The 5th book of the Murderbot Diaries
. I love the main character !Bad Luck Charlie by Scott Byron
. 3 stars (I left a post on the BOTM tread).Semiosis by Sue Burke
. Very interesting idea: first contact with sentient alien plant.
Trike wrote: "Yep. For most of it I was just going, “Ugh!” and then skipping ahead during the sex scenes."It's been years since I read it. I don't remember sex scenes so I must have skipped them, too. My main memory is thinking that Grimspace was a description as well as title. It was grim.
Read book 7 or Star Kingdom
. Buroker is only writing 1 more book so the series will top off at 8.Read Return to Sol which is next to the last book in the Orion War series of Aeon14. M.D. Cooper

I just read the description of the first book in the series and I thought, “Didn’t I just read this?” Turns out that The Wrong Stars has a nearly identical setup as Destiny Lost, which came out a year earlier. So folks who like one might like the other.
I finished the three books of the series starting with
A Call to Duty by David Weber. I’m looking forward to the 4th but that is still months in the future.
I had hopes for the latest book in the
Janissaries series by Jerry Pournelle, but gave up without even finishing the free preview. Maybe the next time I’m in the mood to reread the series it will have more appeal.
Right now I’m rereading the series that starts with
Take the Star Road by Peter Grant. Main character is not quite 19yo at the start of the first book. The series spans at least a decade.
This weekend I plan to skim
Bob's Saucer Repair by Jerry Boyd. I reread it recently, and want to find something to comment on in the BOTM thread.

I have been reading the Saving Mars series by Cidney Swanson - a young adult series that is family friendly.
The author was kind enough to provide the books to me after I had mentioned I liked the first one but was unable to afford the 6-book series on my limited disability budget. I wrote reviews, because I felt like it, as it seems to be to be very appropriate for early teen girls.I have also been reading David Drake's Lt. Leary series. I like it but can only read a couple in a row because, despite like his writing style, the stories start to feel too much the same.
Double Share - I read the first three books and really liked them, so now I am reading book 4 in the series.
I like the Lt. Leary series bur I was very disapointed by the n.11 Death's Bright Day. So I didn't read the last 2. Will do one day ...
I’m currently rereading various fantasy books, and keeping my eyes peeled for new space opera that looks interesting.
