Two young people are the protagonists, go on an adventure, they get chased by an infinite group of murderous happy young people.

I remember one part with a lot of the killer young people who cross a ravine and fall in but keep coming and the bodies fill the ravine until they eventually walk across on top of the bodies.
May be by a New Zealand author.
This is not the whole plot just what I remember.
