SOLVED. YA (more towards younger) fiction where tiny cupboard doors lead to completely different worlds. [s]

Early 2000's era in publication, this book was very whimsical in its adventure by having small doors- almost like the doors in the original decimal system of a library- lead to different dimensions/worlds. The main characters were children, I beleive being led by an older figure? I think they were looking for something like a key. The book all over was dark blue. Except for the lights through the small doors illuminating the darkness.
