In 1973 my teacher told me I had to read more than just the Three Investigator series which I really enjoyed. I couldn't be bothered with the Hardy Boys, but I did try reading the Power Brothers. So to keep my teacher off my back I read an adventure / mystery series from the library, probably British, probably written in the 1950s. It featured the adventures of two guys in their late teens who were either pals or brothers. One adventure was set in "the fjords of Norway". Another adventure was set in an old stone abbey, with the word "Abbey" in the title of this particular adventure. I've never come across these books again and often wondered who the guys were and who wrote them.

Probably not, because I can't see any evidence that it was part of a series, and nothing by the author set in Norway, but Worldcat has a record for "The Mystery of the Ruined Abbey" by William MacKellar. It's not in Goodreads, but this description in Kirkus Reviews matches the teenage heroes, the setting in an old abbey, and the publication date (1954):

A more likely candidate may be John Pudney's Fred and I series.Tuesday Adventure: The Affray In The Sardanger Fjord is set in the fjords of Norway according to the Goodreads description, and it seems very possible that "Monday Adventure: The Secrets of Blackmead Abbey" (not in Goodreads) might be set in an old stone abbey.
Hi Stephen, I agree it's probably not the William MacKellar book but the John Pudney series looks promising. I'll check it out to see if I can confirm that this series is the one. "The Affray in the Sardanger Fjord" synopsis mentions "secret operations taking place in the depths of a mountain" which rings a bell. And the fact that the series also has a "Secrets of Blackmead Abbey" is another tick. I'll let you know how I get on and thanks for the input.
I haven't been able to find a copy of these books to review but I'm going to mark this as SOLVED as Stephen's suggestions seem to tick all the right boxes:1/ British 1950s adventure series featuring two lads.
2/ Monday Adventure: The Secrets of Blackmead Abbey mentions an Abbey in the book title.
3/ Tuesday Adventure: The Affray at the Sardanger Fjord mentions a Fjord in the book title.
4/ The Sardanger Fjord story has some action inside a mountain.
Thanks Stephen, great work!
