Children's book. A boy plants a seed that grows a treehouse. Read 1982-1983.

I remember reading a children's book from the Auburn, Washington public library about a little boy who found or bought a seed and then planted that seed along a river. The seed sprouted a giant tree with a treehouse and a basket elevator dropped down. The boy got into the basket elevator and went up to the treehouse, which looked like a cozy little apartment. This would have been sometime around 1982-1983. I don't remember if the book seemed contemporary to that time or old.
