The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? by Edward Albee

an extremely disturbing and thought provoking play - at times hilarious, at other times creepy, at still other times (in act 3 especially) so disturbing I don’t know what to make of it.

The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans

Great novel. I embarrassed myself in the cinema though by inadvertently expostulating, "What??" at the (changed) ending of the film.

What an interesting diversity of books we are getting here :)

LOL jean! I sometimes do things like that.

Not at all the same, but once I was watching a play that had a somewhat lavish wedding scene toward the end - the woman came out in her lavish dress as quiet music played, and the characters on stage shared a moment of silence as they watched her walk out from backstage. Just then, the lady sitting behind me said in a very loud voice, "What a nice dress!" Once of the wedding guests on stage flinched slightly. :)

Leopard In My Lap by Michaela Denis

true story from the 1950's by one half of the duo Armand and Michaela Denis. If you liked Born Free: A Lioness of Two Worlds you might enjoy this

Greg - your story also reminds me of another occasion. We often go to see plays put on by a local amateur dramatic company. At one point of one play, an actress flounced to the front of the stage in a summer dress - it was a particular feature in the play that she had bought a new dress. (This was a few years ago when tiered styles were very "in".) I immediately said, very put out, "That's my dress!" in a loud whisper to Chris (at last I remembered to whisper - we were in the front stalls!)

I had sent it to a local charity shop that season. Now I knew where the stage company got their costumes!

And Chris had the tact to say I "looked better in it" than she did :D

Golden Bats and Pink Pigeons: A Journey to the Flora and Fauna of a Unique Island by Gerald Durrell

One of Durrell's very funny natural history books, this time set in Mauritius

Greg - quick-thinking on that occasion... it was oddly and nonsensically embarrassing!

//unicorn//

The Black Unicorn: Poems by Audre Lorde.

One of her earliest books of poems. I like it, but her craft grows stronger in later books like The Marvelous Arithmetics of Distance: Poems, 1987-1992. All of her books have strong political undercurrents and a deep seated anger with the status quo as well - not books that are for everyone.

Sea Wolf by Jack London

Drags in spots but an interesting book

Amber, I love Peanuts! My favorite cartoon moment is when the "Easter Beagle" hands out all those eggs - a delicious moment of magic before Lucy declares Hey, wait, those are MY eggs! Linus is so wonderful!! I fear I share much of his uncynical, over-credulous daffiness.
