I discovered the name of the series. :) It's "Mostly Ghostly" by R.L. Stine
I read this book series probably around 5 years ago. Its a children/juvenile fiction. I don't remember the title or even what the books look like. They are small probably only 100 to a 150 pages per book.
Its about a boy who can see ghosts, he becomes friends with two ghost children, a brother and sister, who come to live with him. The boy is a wannabe magician and in the first book the children help him at a talent show. The series is about his adventures with them, battling evil ghosts and him trying to help the kids find their parents. In the books there are small silver capsule-like things that can hold ghosts. Hopefully this is enough information :)
