1 word / book - this has just been clarified.

Suzanne | 5417 comments A book I need to review next week contains "Freddy Kruger" - none of the other tough ones though - but anyway I can definitely take that one unless someone else is uh...DYING to :)

I also have books containing OJ Simpson, Charles Manson, Black Widow, and Lucrezia Borgia if you want me to take any of those. None of those are review books, but they are all books I wouldn't mind reading :)

message 253: by Melindam (last edited Jul 03, 2019 06:06AM) (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Suzanne, we'd all die for YOU .... to take that book. LOL.

You'll be Uncrowned Queen of Fright Week if you take all these.

BTW, the books containing these words don't have to be thrillers - I just clarified this.

message 254: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Lol I'm happy to take them - but if anyone finds one and wants them - feel free! I don't want to hog all the good villains :)

message 255: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments what are the books you have that you know have those words? maybe one of us would be interested in one of them as well. unfortunately the one i read a few weeks ago was the 6th book in a series so that's not really feasible for someone else to just read that lol

message 256: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments It's weird how that happens Devann - and then when you actually want the word it is difficult.

message 258: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments White Woman has lots too - books set in the south, books about native americans, etc.

message 259: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Oh looks like Daisy Jones & The Six has Bloody Mary in it too - is anyone besides me reading that? I have questions on Saturday, but I'll be driving all day Saturday so I was planning on doing them Friday night. I COULD hold off on finishing the book til right after the next week starts if we need it to check off Bloody Mary :)

message 260: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments OK another clarification. Even if you read the same book, a word can only be used/found/ once.

message 261: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I'm also reading Daisy Jones for next week so you can finish this week Suzanne.

message 262: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I'll check my books for next week when I get home.

message 263: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments btw, 2 readers can use the same book for different words.

message 264: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments lots of BOM points for Daisy Jones, hoooray! :)

message 265: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Thanks Joanne!

message 266: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Wow - I go to sleep and look what happens!!!

I'll check my books to see what words I have.

message 267: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Good morning! LOL

message 268: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Hi Green Beauties!
Next week's planning sheets are added. The Wk4 Mini is for Melinda and I to use - if you have mini challenge words you can add them to the Wk4Books sheet in the last column. There may be some adjustments if we find we need another way to keep track. 😍

message 269: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i read Project Cain several months ago and it's about serial killer clones so i'm pretty sure it had Charles Manson somewhere in it. although i didn't read it as an ebook so i can't check with a quick search. i didn't think it was amazing but it pretty good in a weird way lol

message 270: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i'm doing war of the worlds for the genre points even though it's unfortunately under 200 pages. i could also do the scarlet pimpernel if we're going to need another one but again, it's just under 200 pages so if we're gonna be set on the genre i will try to find something else just over 200 lol. it looks like we have just enough on the planning sheet now if everyone is going to get them finished on time

message 271: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Thank you for reading some classics! After my first book, I've slacked on the genre (but I don't have any on the spreadsheet either). I appreciate you all covering for me.

message 272: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments I'm working on Black Beauty, Devann, and I've got a couple of others that are just over 200 pages I can read.

message 273: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments I will finish 2 more classics before the Friday deadline.

message 274: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I have to do a ton of driving on Saturday and realized one of the audio books I listened to years ago has Michael Myers in it How to Survive a Horror Movie. I thought it was super funny. Anyway - if someone else wants to listen/read it (or has a different Michael Myers book) - feel free to replace my name with yours on the planning sheet, but otherwise I don't mind doing it at all. Always good to get those survival tips :)

message 275: by Melindam (last edited Jul 04, 2019 05:06AM) (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Thanks for the tip Suzanne. This sounds superfunny. It also contains other 5-point words and it's only 175 pages. I may get it on Audible.

I will read By the Pricking of My Thumbs by Agatha Christie by Agatha Christie. It has "Marie Antoinette"
in it.

I also have A Caribbean Mystery (Miss Marple, #10) by Agatha Christie for Lucrezia Borgia.

I will also read Where Eagles Dare by Alistair MacLean . It has "Bloody Mary" + at least 20 other scavenger words in it and it also fits the thriller genre.

message 276: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i like seth graeme smith so i can do the how to survive a horror movie one.

message 277: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Devann wrote: "i like seth graeme smith so i can do the how to survive a horror movie one."

OK, Devann. In that case I will just put it on my TBR list for the time being. :)

message 278: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments haha yeah i saw two people already added it on the planning sheet but i will definitely read that one, not sure why i didn't read it while i was reading his other books actually. and i still need to go through my tbr today to see if i have anything that works for any of the other tricky words

message 279: by Melindam (new)

Devann, I put your name to this book on the Planning Sheet instead of mine, you are all good. :)

message 280: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments thanks, i will probably go ahead and read it tomorrow night after the changeover just to start off with something short and fun :)

message 281: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Great! I hope you enjoy it. I thought it was really funny - finally a survival book that applied to my life :)

message 282: by Dev (last edited Jul 04, 2019 07:53AM) (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments also i just noticed that i have stone cold magic on my tbr so i can probably take that one for o.j. simpson [unless i read the first few chapters and think it's awful lol, but the summary sounds good so crossing my fingers]

so that means the ones we don't have covered yet are

Black Dahlia
Black Widow
Andrea Yates
White Woman

message 283: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Thanks Devann! I can do Black Widow. Nothing came up in my kindle search for Black Dahlia or Andrea Yates, and White Woman comes up with too many that don't really fit. I'll keep looking!

For those of you in the states, are you doing anything today for the 4th? My sister is coming over to BBQ, but otherwise I need to stay around to keep my pups calm - they don't like fireworks!!

message 284: by Suzanne (last edited Jul 04, 2019 08:05AM) (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Wow we're getting there! My two options for Black Widow are both books I think I'd like, so I'll take that one - but it is also fine if someone finds a black widow book - just speak up! Yay Sandy! (Same with Charles Manson).

I have to stay around to keep my pups calm as well.

For White Woman - is it ok if it just says white woman, or does it have to be like a character reference?

message 285: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i think as long as it is the two words together exactly as they appear then it counts.

i'm going to a friends house to cook out and do fireworks so unfortunately my cat will have to fend for herself at home lol she had plenty of little hidey holes though so i think she'll be okay

message 286: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I have one book that keeps talking about a spooky "woman in white" which is probably what this task actually means - but that is not "white woman". (In the book - looks like it is a ghost.)

Then of course there are a bunch that say stuff like "attractive white woman"

message 287: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i think the 'attractive white woman' one is actually the one that would count, despite the act that it has nothing at all to do with the woman in white legend lol

message 288: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Suzanne wrote: "Wow we're getting there! My two options for Black Widow are both books I think I'd like, so I'll take that one - but it is also fine if someone finds a black widow book - just speak up! Yay Sandy..."

If you want to take Black Widow, feel free Suzanne. One of mine is a re-read and the other is a short. I don't mind reading either of them, but I don't mind not reading them, either. :-) I have books for Freddy Krueger, Charles Manson, Michael Myers, OJ Simpson and Marie Antoinette as well, if it turns out someone doesn't like their book.

There was some talk in the captain's group about White Woman - it could also be the cover, like a woman white dress. There was a question about whether the words have to capitalized, but nothing was decided. So for now I think as long as the words are together it works. If that changes, Melinda or I will let you guys know asap.

message 289: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Oh a woman in a white dress would be easy to find :)

I feel the same about Black Widow and about my Charles Manson book - I'm good either way. Sandy, why don't you choose one of those two and I'll do the other?

message 290: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i've been looking around for black dahlia books but all i can find are the obvious ones that are about the actual murder which i am in no way interested in reading and also a bunch of erotica books which ...same lol

are there any other ones we can use cover substitutions for? like can black widow have a spider or black dahlia a black flower? bc i think i might have a book w/ a black flower on it ...pretty sure it's a rose not a dahlia but if they decide they're not gonna be that picky ...

message 291: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments ah crap, i already read it lol. but if they decide that black flower works then someone else could read

Because You Love to Hate Me 13 Tales of Villainy by Amerie

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6537 comments Happy Fourth of July for all those who celebrate!
Dropping by from 'The Color Purple' to spread the holiday cheer.

message 293: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Ooooh I found a Black Dahlia book - looking at my same author that I had for "woman in white" -

LAPD Detective Sophie Manning’s new case is high-profile and difficult—there’s no evidence to work with. And it’s a disturbing echo of the infamous Black Dahlia killing. Sophie is burning the candle at both ends, desperate to catch the murderer before he strikes again, when she starts to experience inexplicable visits...from ghosts.

It's audio book is on Scribd, so I'll download it for my lot of driving on Saturday.

message 294: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Devann - good idea about cover pictures - your thoughts were what spurred me to look at Black Dahlia again.

message 295: by Suzanne (last edited Jul 04, 2019 10:29AM) (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Doing more Scribd searches (this time for Andrea Yates) she is mentioned in Girl in Snow and Hush Hush . Does anyone have either of those on your radar? I could possibly get to one if I have to.

Melindam | 8367 comments Dear All! Happy July 4th to You All this&that side of the Pond. :)

message 297: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments OMG - we just had an earthquake that seemed to last forever! I think it was pretty far away from me, no damage or anything, but it just kept going!!! The dogs were going nuts!

message 298: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Yikes - that is crazy! Poor dogs with that AND the fireworks!! I'm glad there wasn't any damage.

message 299: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments They are saying it was 6.6, but thankfully out in the desert where there aren't as many people.

I can get an audiobook about Andrea Yates on overdrive, so I can take that name.

message 300: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Glad YOU & the dogs are OK, Sandy.
