We've hit our page goal for Bucket 6, and we have one book completed... we still need one more book published in the summer, and one that was discovered via the Read-A-Thon.

Anyone able to tackle these in the next 12-24 hours?

Also, we still have two questions available, so I'll start on our second author:

Is our author female?
Is our author alive?

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I’ll work on The Pride which is a comic about LGBTQ+ superhero’s that came out this month. It was on my list of things I wanted to read on comiXology. Comics don’t normally take me too long so I should be able to crank it out in a couple hours.

I should be able to finish The Silver Star within 24 hours and it is a June publication date. If someone else fills this soon, I can hold off finishing since this will fit for a celestial body down the road.

Edie | 1144 comments Emily, the planning tab only seems to go to Bucket 8, can this be expanded to included ALL the prompts we have left?

message 258: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 424 comments Thank you to Jackie for mentioning Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead are dead! It was a quick, fun little read that I had totally forgotten about until you mentioned it.

I've read 355 for 6/9.

I'm listening to The Masterpiece which was published in July. I'm listening on 1.5 speed and I have 5 hours left. I think I'll be able by finish tomorrow.

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments Wow so much going on in this group the last couple of hours!
And good guessing Tracy!

I read 531 pages today. Didn't finish books that count as more than pages (shorter than 100 pages and a long book not finished).

It's 2 am and I am off to bed.

Please help me decide what to read tomorrow. I mean I can just keep reading pages, but I have loads that fit the next couple of buckets.

I have George It fits the lgbtq book.

Or I could start the rainbow? It seems purple is the hardest. These are short reads I could read in a day, except The Binding, so if you guys can tell me what to read in the next 24 hours that would be grand :)

yellow
Hest, hest, tiger, tiger by Mette Eike Neerlin

Orange
Tag gaden tilbage by Sanne Munk Jensen is it orange enough?

Red
Drengen på toppen af bjerget by John Boyne

Green
Kryptalportalen by Bobbie Peers

Blue
Kraken by Benni Bødker

Purple-ish. This is longer and I will take a couple days to read it I think. And is it purple enough?
The Binding by Bridget Collins

Edie, I've updated the planning tab. Shelley, I'm counting that as a book discovered during the Read-A-Thon!

Johanne, excellent reading today! It all depends on how fast you read... we have a few books to fill tomorrow, so if you think you will take until Tuesday (or the end of Monday, possibly) to finish these, I would start on the rainbow. I'm assuming people will be reading less once the work week starts back up, so it may be slower going for these buckets?

Don't forget to work on those Read-A-Thon games! And feel free to add your books to the Planning tab on the spreadsheet!

Jill | 725 comments I have started reading Searching for Sylvie Lee today. It is going to take a couple of days since I have to work. 😞
But it will work for the rainbow covers, the cover is blue. I added it to the planning tab.
I will add my pages later since it is only 6pm here.

My current read would work for published in summer, but since it sounds like there are a few other options for that I looked into summer holidays. I found a few references via Google that indiicate that July 7 is International Ponytail Day which seems to fit!

I will catch up on the game when I can get to an actual computer to type out those spoiler tags.

message 267: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I finished The Pride Season One which came out this month. It was 168 pages. I’m probably going to be done reading for today, but I’m technically still on vacation until Thursday so I’ll have lots of free time to read the next couple of days. I’ll look over the summer holiday stuff to see if there’s something short I can read for that tomorrow during the day.

Edie | 1144 comments I just went through my TBR list and found Tolstoy and the Purple Chair which has a big PURPLE chair on the cover. I was able to download it from my library.
For now, I will concentrate on the books I have in progress, but as we get closer to needing to read the rainbow, I can switch to that book. It is 250 or so pages which I should be able to read fairly quickly if we need it.

Kathryn | 563 comments All the excitement happened on my Monday morning when I was away from the computer!!! :-(

Congratulations to Tracy! I don't think Anita Shreve was on the Wikipedia list I copied the deceased authors from, but it looks like she only died last year, so maybe the page hasn't been updated since, and I was ignoring the authors listed as still living! And it's Wikipedia - it crossed my mind that it might not have been accurate!

And ugh, Christy!!! What an experience! Good thing you hadn't brought the book home and let it sit on the shelf for a week or two before getting to it (as I often do!)!!! I wonder if they'll contact people who had the book before you!!

I'm still reading Kakadu Sunset (less than 100 pages left), but I don't think it works for any immediate buckets - it WAS published in summer - but mine, not the northern hemisphere summer - so December! I'm never keen on the "quirky" holiday idea categories - I feel like you could stretch anything to fit, but then it doesn't feel right, to me, but if anyone wants to make a case for Kakadu Sunset fit any of the quirky summer holidays, go right ahead. Otherwise I was thinking I could leave finishing it until we are on bucket 8 - since it has a sunset on it, I'm thinking it could work for a yellow or orange cover:
Kakadu Sunset The Porter Sisters 1 by Annie Seaton

I'm listening to A Night Divided by Jennifer A. Nielsen and am about halfway through. I will take a while yet to finish it, but it could work for bucket 9 (spans several years) or 10 (child as main character).

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I finished Don't Ever Tell Don't Ever Tell by Lucy Dawson which should work for a summer holiday. Ponytail Day in July (cover hairstyle) and Sisters Day in August (there are two sets of sisters playing significant roles in the book).

message 277: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Bucket 6 complete.

I'm a bit annoyed with myself that I finished my last book a day too early as it had a bi main character. I thought we were further away from bucket 7 but you are all just too efficient!

Is anyone current reading a book with an LGBT+ character?

message 278: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments I have George by Alex Gino it has a trans main character, it's 200 pages and I will be able to read it today. It is a holiday in Denmark and I am off work. I have other stuff I have to do though, so I won't get to it right a away.

message 280: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 563 comments Happy birthday, Meg! I missed that earlier.

Not much reading today :-(

I got 47 pages of Kakadu Sunset read throughout the day.

I got 6 pages of The Pearl Thief read before the iPad needed charging! But I guess every page counts...

I got 149 pages of A Night Divided listened to an audiobook while at the gym, driving, and while crocheting this evening since I couldn't read my ebooks as my iPad was charging.

So my total for Monday is 202 pages.

message 281: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments So I decided to procrastinate my boring stuff to do today, and finished George by Alex Gino, so that's our lgbtq book done.
It's a middle grade book about a girl in a boy's body. A touching read, and I cried a bit. I always do when kids struggle. The problems of being trans are universal in some respects, but the book also show the difference from USA to Denmark. One of the main plots of the book is the mc who wants to play Charlotte in the school play, and this causes a lot of fuss because it's a girl's role. In my kids' school they happily play different genders in plays and dress up across gender for last day of school and things like that. I am not saying it's easy to be transgender here, gender roles are still firm, but people are at least a bit more openminded (at least where I live in Copenhagen, in a really diverse neighbourhood so that probably also plays in).

Aren't we done for a LGBT book - it's easy to miss things, but I saw Brittany said she's finished The Pride which she'd said in message 254 should count for this...?

It looks like we're still looking for another quirky summer holiday - in addition to Deborah's Don't Ever Tell. I can't help with anything I'm reading, but I just wondered whether anyone was working on that?

Edit: I'm just looking ahead, because the next bucket is the rainbow one. Is anyone working on orange or yellow? Because I'm reading Kakadu Sunset: The Porter Sisters 1 and can hold off until we're up to that bucket if necessary, but I was wondering what people thought - is this yellow enough? Or orange enough? I'm more inclined toward calling it yellow - or does anyone else have orange or yellow covered with unambiguous colours?!!
Kakadu Sunset The Porter Sisters 1 by Annie Seaton

message 283: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments I think that was used for released in June, but I may be wrong. If not we'll just count George for pages.

Good morning folks!

We only need one more book for the summer holiday, and then we are done with Bucket 7! Y'all are all amazing.

Does anyone have a book that they will be finishing this morning that will fit this category? Here's a list for June, July, and August. If you are close to finishing a book, please take a peek at these lists and see if you can squeeze it in anywhere!

For the rainbow, it seems we have a lot of yellow books, and none for red or green, so if you're looking to pick up a new book, check out those.

We will also need a book on the 6th page of someone's TBR... for that, the mods did specify that it has to be sorted by date added, oldest to newest, but they didn't specify how much had to be on a page. I'll put in a question to the mods about that, but please look at your TBR and see if something you were planning on reading fits there.

Here's a link to the game for the day, so go answer it when you have a moment! https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

We also have one question to ask. I can ask about author nationality again, if you all agree with that. We do know that we have a female author who is still alive.

I have started Letters to the Dead which was on the 6th page of my TBR list. I can focus on that today, but I have 300 pages to go and PT and some other commitments, so am not sure whether I can get it done today.

I have also started Tolstoy and the Purple Chair which would cover purple in the rainbow. I have fewer pages to go in that (it is shorter), so guess that should be my focus and leave the book on the 6th page of TBR to someone else.

Edie, since that is the only one I've seen on the spreadsheet or mentioned here, go ahead and work on it. I have a feeling that this bucket will take the longest for us (having the most books and being a Monday...), so you have some time!
