Thank you! I’m looking forwards to seeing what the prompts are😊

Just a heads up, I am now adding more buckets to each team. Please update spreadsheets accordingly :)

message 354: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashleym99) yay. I will be more help tomorrow. today was absolutely crazy day work and had to watch 3 hours of videos to license requirements. will have some audiobook tomorrow. pages will be low today too. but I will do the activity when I get back from a walk to get a little exercise in

message 355: by Karissa (new)

Karissa | 440 comments I finished The Ocean at the End of the Lane for a book with an epilogue for bucket 11!

message 356: by Traci (last edited Jun 11, 2019 05:45PM) (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Mods - I'll ask a question.

4. Bucket 9 - Is the author on the list of 1001 books to read before you die?

(Also thanks for the additional buckets!)

message 357: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Sorry I've been MIA today (and about to be again for a few more hours). Way to finish bucket 11! I'll add the next buckets to the spreadsheet.

I asked the 1001 book list question, but we have 4 more.
Born in US?
Born pre/post 1975? This is cutoff of 44, do people think that's a good age cutoff or too young?

I'm about to leave for a few hours, but can ask some once I get back.

message 358: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments I was reading The Red Queen: Sex and the Evolution of Human Nature for epilogue but as that is done does anyone have another book with red or queen in title? I can do both as i also have The Red Queen on my TBR and they would fit bucket 13

The author of the first is from UK which is an Island and would cover bucket 12

I am exam invigilating most of day tomorrow so won't get much reading done - I am going to try and sleep soon

if we get a yes from 1001 books it might help to narrow down next question

I was thinking that too.

message 361: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments I can finish The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time for the island prompt he is from the UK.

I might try and start Mrs. Dalloway for a book that takes place in the summer but I likely will be slow.

Marin (marinbeth) | 187 comments Marie (UK) wrote: "Traci wrote: "Sorry I've been MIA today (and about to be again for a few more hours). Way to finish bucket 11! I'll add the next buckets to the spreadsheet.

I agree, Marie -- I'm guessing that the 1001 list skews a little older, so we might want to change the birth year based on the answer.

I'm likely to finish Playing Beatie Bow tomorrow morning -- the author, Ruth Ware, is from New Zealand, so that could count for an author from an island.

The other books I'm reading at the moment don't have many common words except like "the" and "of," and those feel kind of like cheating.

message 363: by Karissa (new)

Karissa | 440 comments A happy coincidence that the audiobook I was almost finished with fits into bucket 12. I just finished The People We Hate at the Wedding which works for bucket 12's prompt A book about a person who travels to another country. The main characters travel from the US to England for a wedding.

message 364: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments 4. Bucket 9 - Is the author on the list of 1001 books to read before you die? NO

message 365: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashleym99) I have a book about a character who travels to a different country. I will be able to finish it tomorrow.

message 366: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments I was glancing at the planning tab and I thought I saw two people reading on George. I’m on my phone so it is hard to check names I thought I’d see if that was the case.

Do we want start a suggestion list.
I’ll recommend The Song of Achilles.

message 367: by Storm (last edited Jun 11, 2019 07:42PM) (new)

Storm So it looks like ya'll finished a book for each prompt in bucket 12

For bucket 13, I just finished Diary of a Young Girl if someone is reading a book with one of those words (young and girl are common)

edit- Or if other people find matching titles, this may work as debut novel as well?

message 368: by Ana (new)

Ana | 53 comments I am partway through We Are the Perfect Girl, but probably will not finish it until tomorrow evening, so anyone else feel free to jump in on that prompt. (I wish I could stay up and read it)

message 369: by Traci (last edited Jun 11, 2019 09:32PM) (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Do you think 2 people reading the same book counts for 2 books with the same word in the title, or do the books need to be different?

If the same book counts, I can finish George tonight. Hannah, did you start it?

We have a lot of questions right now, so I'm going to ask if the author was born in the US, someone else pick another!

Do people like a question like: Has she had a new book published in the last year?

message 370: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Mods -
5. Games 9 - Was our author born in the United States?

message 371: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Wait a minute on starting bucket 13...do we have bucket 12 done? Has anyone finished a book by an author on an island. Marie, Jillian, and Marin all mentioned one. I can't tell if Marie finished her's or not.

Marie - if you check this in the morning, please let us know!

message 372: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments I have not finished mine.

message 373: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments I could pick up American Street from the library tomorrow after work, which Kristina recommended.

Some recs that I think aren't extremely long: Did You Ever Have a Family, Beartown, The Door, Past the Shallows, Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End

message 374: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Anyone else have books in different degrees of done-ness scattered all over their house right now? I keep starting and stopping and restarting for prompts!

message 375: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments I always have tons of books going. I try and keep it under 10 books.

I think a different team is planning on two people reading the same book. It meets the requirement of having the same word and I think it is actually harder than just matching a word.

message 376: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments I'll read more of George but not finish it tonight since I don't know if we have the island prompt. I can easily finish it during breakfast if the island prompt is finished by then.

Wow! I usually have an audio and a book or kindle, but rarely more than that. Well, I guess I've also been reading Howard Zinn's History of the United states for 3 years now.

message 378: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments I played today's game and I filled in my pages read today.

I finished All Your Perfects. I think it just counts towards page count though.

message 379: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments I'm also going to start Another Brooklyn on audio tomorrow in case those words match words in another title.

message 380: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments I just downloaded The Snow Queen audio. Just in case we need a book with queen. I still have 100 pages left on The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time it is a quick read but I don’t have much for reading.

message 381: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 384 comments Traci wrote: "Do you think 2 people reading the same book counts for 2 books with the same word in the title, or do the books need to be different?

Traci, I didn’t start George as we had enough books for that bucket. I have got it from the library though, and it looks quite short, so I could probably read it today, depending on when I get home from work.

I don’t think the books I’m reading that I’m likely to finish will fit any of these prompts, so I’m happy to pick up whatever is needed.

For recommendations, I loved Home Fire, On the Come Up, The Thread, The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox, The Hate U Give, My Sister, the Serial Killer.

I thought for the recommendation prompt, could it be interpreted as anything that someone in this group has rated 5 stars on GR? We could then look through everyone’s ratings, to see if there was something we were either already reading, or could easily get.

message 382: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sezziy) | 614 comments Morning all. I started Part of your World today. It is part of the Twisted Tales series if that counts as a book with a twist? If it is too much of a stretch then I'm sure there'll be some kind of romance in the story

I have been having trouble with Gertie my gallstone who seems to have taken it into her head to keep me awake at night so I am absolutely worn out today I don't know if i can be counted on for tasks

the one i have started for author from an island won't be finished before late this evening my time - maybe 12 or 13 hours from now. I have got a couple of agatha christies which would fit and i might get through quicker if nobody else completes this task.

I MUST have a book with Girl in the title simply because it seems to be in ever other title nowadays.

i think the published in the last year is a good question

message 384: by Ana (new)

Ana | 53 comments Oh, hey, Arthur C Clarke used to live in the UK and then moved to Sri Lanka, which is also an island and I am currently reading 2010: Odyssey Two. I probably won’t be able to finish it before the next 5 hours, so someone else can step in as needed. :)

message 385: by Melinda (new)

Melinda (minna17) I just finished A Thousand Sisters: The Heroic Airwomen of the Soviet Union in World War II by Elizabeth E. Wein. She currently lives in the UK, but she was born in America. Would this count for the author from an island prompt?

message 386: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments 5. Games 9 - Was our author born in the United States? YES

message 387: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) I will finish The Book of Strange New Things this afternoon. I don't think it will fit into any slots unless someone is reading a book with one of those words in it.

My hat is off to anyone who can read 10 books at one time and get a thing from them. My concentration levels generally stop at two and they have to be vastly different.

message 388: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments I need still need to read "35. A psychological thriller" which is not something I really like. So if anyone has any recommendations for that prompt that are short I could maybe read a book for that. The book does not have to be great (3 stars or more) mainly just short and hopefully my library will have it.

message 389: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments Jillian wrote: "I need still need to read "35. A psychological thriller" which is not something I really like. So if anyone has any recommendations for that prompt that are short I could maybe read a book for that..."

I can recommend The Girl in 6E tagged as psych thriller

and

The Wasp Factory again tagged is awesome

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments If anyone is looking for recommendations anything on this shelf of mine is awesome

message 391: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments have we asked about when the author was born

message 392: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Marie - Sorry to hear about your problems with Gertie. Definitely don't worry about the tasks, someone can fill them and it's okay if we're finishing slower!

message 393: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments As for questions, I'll ask about born before 1975. It might be nice to narrow down names some more too since we don't have a list to go off of. Would people be okay with that?

I know I'm asking a lot of questions about the questions and delaying asking them, but that's because I find this part of our task difficult.

message 394: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments Thanks, Marie! I will look up those books on my lunch. I still have 50 pages left on my book for an author from an island and won’t be able to read for 3-4 hours.

I think from means that they have to be born on an island not just leaving there now but you can ask the mods for clarification and maybe Melinda’s book would count.

message 395: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments I’m okay with any questions asked.

message 396: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Mods - we have questions.
6. Bucket 10 - Was she born before 1975?
7. Bucket 11 - Does her surname start with a letter A through F?

message 397: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments FYI: the game of the day is the halfway check-in.

message 398: by Karissa (new)

Karissa | 440 comments I'm listening to The Rosie Project which could be a debut novel for bucket 13 or match another book with "The" in the title.

I'm also planning to start reading The Woman in Cabin 10 which I'm assuming will have some kind of major plot twist for bucket 15 since it's a mystery/thriller. Can anyone who has read it before confirm this (with no spoilers lol)?

message 399: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments 6. Bucket 10 - Was she born before 1975? NO
7. Bucket 11 - Does her surname start with a letter A through F? YES

message 400: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments The author of George was born on Staten Island. Should we use that for our island prompt and not 2 books with the same word? An island formed by rivers seems less of an island, but it's surrounded by water and Island is in the name.
