In case people haven't noticed it, there's a new game posted: book titles synonyms and antonyms. I usually like this one, headed over to play it now.

It sounds and looks good to me Traci. I'm going be listening to my audiobook that will work for the summer holiday prompt if we need it. I have lots of cleaning to do today since I focused on hard/paperback books yesterday.
I'm almost halfway through Annihilation. It's short and pretty good. I was looking at the rainbow prompt and it is a pale yellow cover. We could also use it for the holiday prompt.Does anyone have a purple book? I have
which I guess would count for purple if we needed it. What do you all think?
Joan- it looks like there is only one possible pick for purple. All other colors have at least 2. If you want to read it I think that would be a good idea. I think the colors (except for blue) are going to be hard and it will be good to have more than one person working on them.
I think that counts as purple! I have a little less than 100 pages of Bowlaway left that I'm trying to speed read! Storm started Annihilation for "discovered during read-a-thon" yesterday, so hopefully one of us will be able to move the team to the next bucket.
For colors, all I have is green, and maybe orange.
We have additional buckets now, but I've been trying to get through my book so haven't added them to the spreadsheet yet.
9. Bucket 5 - Are any of his books that are on the list of 1001 books to read before you die originally written in a language other than English? YES
Do we want to ask one more question to narrow down the surname before looking up which author's originally written in a language other than English?
Jillian wrote: "Do we want to ask one more question to narrow down the surname before looking up which author's originally written in a language other than English?"Not a bad idea. I did a quick highlight of ppl who aren't listed as English or Canadian. These aren't necessarily the options, so I didn't delete anyone. Should I ask if surname is A or B?
Bucket 6 is complete! Feel free to finish those bucket 7 books. We have 2 questions to ask. Newest info: he has a book not originally written in English that's on the list. I'm leaving for a few hours, so don't have time to go through our 1001 list to apply this filter, but did a quick highlight in yellow of non-English/Canadians. I should be able to check this thread a couple of times, so if anyone decides a question we should ask our mods, I can post it to them (or one of you can do so).
I just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which I think will be just for page counts. I think I'm going to start A Million Junes next which can be used for bucket 10, main character is a child (assuming we are defining child as younger than 18).
TODAY'S READINGGrave Mercy listening on Audio read equivalent of 60 pages today
Glory in Death also on Audio listened to equivalent of 90 pages today
I had started both of these before the challenge
Britt-Marie Was Here ( works for page 6 of TBR bucket 8) on page 227 will leave to finish when we get to that bucket
total 377 pages on spreadsheet
will start LGBT book it also was published in August does that work for summer read? Two Boys Kissing
- It also has a BLUE cover so if we fill bucket 7 before i read it I will keep it for Bucket 8 colours
I'm reading on The Silver Linings Playbook which I had planned on using for Bucket 7 "quirky" summer holiday.I was not sure who else has a book going for this prompt because I can wait to finish it for Bucket 9 1 book in which any kind of sport/game is important to the story (which I think might be a harder task)
Marie- Two Boys Kissing also could work for the "quirky" summer holiday. Jul 6 Saturday World Kissing Day
Jillian wrote: "Marie- Two Boys Kissing also could work for the "quirky" summer holiday. Jul 6 Saturday World Kissing Day"sounds good I will check before finishing it that the bucket isn't file
I am putting an x in block E if the author has at least one book originally published in a language different than English from the 1001 list. I'm starting with the highlighted authors.
All 13 authors highlighted with surnames C-F have at least one book originally published in a language different than English. I just looked up one book they had on the list to see if the original title was in a different language than English.edit: I did not search the un-highlighted names.
I’ve just finished Elizabeth is Missing. This would work for the quirky summer holiday - Best friends day was yesterday, and Sisters day is 4th August and both of these fit.
(Do you think we should ask does the Author's first name begin with a vowel?)I think we currently have 1 more available question for Bucket 6.
We need 2 more games completed to earn a game question.
I think if the answer is yes we should guess Dumas. I'm thinking maybe Dostoevsky Fyodor in the answer is no (he seems the most recognizable name of the consonant 1st names) . What does everyone else think?
I think the Caucasian question might be throwing us off a bit, depending on how we are defining it. I've been diving into the rabbit hole of Google (like Katie and Laura!) and it really is conflicting.

I agree Jody. I was debating clarification but have been ignoring the answer. I think we can rule out Asians though.
COMPLETIONTwo Boys Kissing
read 09/06/2019
fits either LGBT
OR
quirky summer holiday - kissing day July 6th
Pages 239
I wil add pages to my numbers but not task as i will leave it to someone to decide where it is best placed according to who else finishes
I am really tired now have been up since 0430 it is now 2200 and i need to go to bed will check in tomorrow
I finished Season of Mists which could possibly count for the quirky holiday prompt, either for August 22 (Be an Angel - the book contains Lucifer, and a few other angels), or July 13 (Embrace Your Geekness - because Neil Gaiman graphic novels are pretty geeky!). I'll leave it to the boss to decide!
I think bucket 7 is done now with the two posts above!I’m on my phone so I’ll update the spreadsheet with my final pages read total. I’m getting on really slowly with Midnight's Children, so I think I’m going to pick up a different book for now. I’m tempted by Conversations with Friends, which could be used for a yellow cover. Or could just go towards the page count.
Looking ahead, I have nothing for the prompt about the spine! The spines on all the physical books I have are just colours, and ebooks / audiobooks don’t have a spine. Does anyone have something that could be used for this prompt?
thinking about future bucketsI have nothing for celestial body on cover or in title and no children as MC
I have Fawkes which i think has a beautiful spine but it is subjective
Colours of rainbow
RED -
YELLOW -
OR
GREEN -
BLUE
I am sure i have something with an epilogue
I have The Queen's Fool which has a 14 year old girl as an mc.My hold on The Mars Room is also due in in the next couple of days, which would fit celestial body. And if it doesn’t get here, I have Stern ohne Himmel as a backup.
I’m sure I can find a book with an epilogue if needed as well.
Based on our spreadsheet these are the authors that I think we have narrowed it down. Calvino Italo
Camus Albert
Carpentier Alejo
Dumas Alexandre
Eco Umberto
Cela Camilo Jose
Cervantes Saavedra Miguel de
Diderot Denis
Endo Shusaku
Flaubert Gustave
Fontane Theodor
Frisch Max
Dostoevsky Fyodor
These authors are still on the list due to there last name but I think all these author's books were originally published in English. So, it cannot be any of them.
Doyle Arthur Conan
Forster E.M.
Carroll Lewis
Collins Wilkie
Conrad Joseph
Defoe Daniel
Dickens Charles
Fowles John
Farrell J.G.
Fielding Henry
Findley Timothy
Ford Ford Madox
I'm thinking maybe look at year of birth or death rather than location. We have a few French, Spanish, Italian and one Algerian/French (so the Mediterranean question won't be as helpful now if it is a yes).I'm trying to ignore this question since it is confusing "4. Is the author Caucasian?"
Ok - cool because I'm almost done Annihilation and it can count for a yellow book. I feel like we need a little help with the rainbow.I'm staying out of the guessing for the authors. I just feel like I stink at that kind of thing.
I'm back. Should we just ask about Dumas? Off to look at/update spreadsheet.I can read a green book that should be quick.
I should finish Fallout tomorrow but I'm not sure which colour I'd say was most dominant on the cover. What do you guys think?
It doesn't really fit anywhere else
I personally would be fine with you counting it for either red or blue. Leaning a bit towards red.
I’m not sure if anyone is working on orange so I’m starting
just in case. Though, I am not going to have much time the next few days to read.
Bucket 8: (obviously others can read any that I have names below for, esp if you're already reading!)Is anyone working on orange, blue or purple covers?
Sarah could finish Fallout tomorrow for red, Joan is close on yellow and I have a quick green.
Marie can finish Britt Marie is here for TBR p6.
Bucket 10:Hannah has a book for each of these prompts, so if someone else has something for celestial body or child main character, that would be great.
Traci wrote: "Bucket 8: (obviously others can read any that I have names below for, esp if you're already reading!)Is anyone working on orange, blue or purple covers?

I'm starting on purple right after this yellow. I only have 30 pages left on the yellow. The purple book looks like it will go quick but I don't know how quick since tomorrow is Monday.
Questions: If 2 more people do the game, we'll have another question.
Earlier people were saying lets try Dumas, but now, there seem to be leanings toward narrowing it down.
Of our 5, 3 were born before 1920 and 2 after, so I could ask that if we want to narrow if down more.
I copied this info from GR author's pages so we would have the into in one place.Calvino Italo- Italo Calvino was born in Cuba and grew up in Italy.
