Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Welcome Arielle!

You can find our spreadsheet linked in the first message. There's the tracking tab and the planning tab. I've added your name to both and your books to the planning tab.

You can update your own games and pages read in the spreadsheet. Pages read can be updated daily or more frequently if you'd like. If you'd like me to update your values, please make sure you indicate in your message in this thread.

Also, please update in a message if you've finished a book so the planning tab can be updated accordingly (i.e. if the book is no longer available to fill in tasks).

Happy to have you reading with us!!

Fee | 233 comments Hi Team :-)
I’m starting with The Golem and The Phantom of the Opera.

Both authors are new to me. I read one book as a paperback and one as an ebook. One MC’s name starts with E

message 53: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments Ok good - I'm glad we got the S and woman out of the way - that way I can concentrate on some of my others. I wasn't sure it I could finish Still Me that fast. I usually pick smaller books for read-a-thons just so I can help out more.

When I get home I'll look at the speadsheet and figure out what all my books could count for!!!

message 54: by Ana (new)

Ana | 53 comments I finished A Willing Murder for 333 pages! Good for a book by a woman or just for page counts :D

message 55: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Woo Hoo! I added this to the spreadsheet and also added in your 333 pages, which put us to 1005 pages total.

Bucket One is Complete. On to continents and decades!

message 56: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments We have 2 questions we can ask: one for bucket 1 and one for 10 games completed.

Do we want to ask female and still alive? Other preferences?

message 57: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Kavitha - I noticed Moovar is in "Inspired by summer holiday". Did I accidentally slot it in or do you have a holiday in mind? (It's not listed in your original post, so I wanted to double check).

message 58: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments That is wonderful that we completed bucket 1. Now I can finish my book originally published in 1960s tonight! (I also added * on the planning tab next to where I think my books will most likely work since there is some overlapping places).

message 59: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments I think is the author a female is a good 1st question.

message 60: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) Completed Company of Liars - 356 pages read since beginning of read-a-thon (I had read 220 before it began).
It was set in Europe (England) and published in 2008.

Apologies, Traci.... I misunderstood the other category is also about publishing year and changed the category. After seeing your message, I realized my mistake.

Kavitha - Not a problem, just checking since we don't have anything yet for "Inspired by summer holiday".

Sara - Wonderful. We'll slot it in to bucket 2!

I think both of these questions are good starting points.

message 64: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments Traci, are those the 2 questions you guys want to use?

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Katie wrote: "Traci, are those the 2 questions you guys want to use?"

Yes, was just about to query the mods. We finished Bucket 1 and the first 10 games.

Question 1: Is the author a female?
Question 2: Is the author alive?

message 66: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments 1. Is the author a female? NO

2. Is the author alive? NO

Your graphic has now been updated according to what is currently in the spreadsheet :)

message 68: by Kavitha (new)

Kavitha Sivakumar | 14 comments Read 180 pages in A Column of Fire

message 69: by Karissa (new)

Karissa | 440 comments Welp, my read-a-thon is off to a bang. Finished Before We Were Yours which takes place in North America. (And I found sadly disappointing, after loving the first book I finished reading today).

While I would love to keep this reading pace up, I'm sure I won't. Though I still should definitely be able to finish reading Bowlaway (about 180 pages left) once we move on to bucket 3 for a book published in 2019.

message 70: by Jillian (last edited Jun 07, 2019 08:14PM) (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments Here is all my reading for today. I added it to the spreadsheet.

The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress finished 6/7/19 160 pages
edit (Bucket #2 1960s looks like the decades already got filled in)

Early Riser
39 pages

The Wind in the Willows (just counts toward page count)
20 pages

The Austere Academy (just counts toward page count)
32 pages

page total 251

message 71: by Traci (last edited Jun 07, 2019 08:12PM) (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments I finished 1Q84 and slotted it in with Sara's, Amy's and Karissa's books to finish the non-page tasks for bucket 2.

We currently have a little over 500 pages to read before we can start filling bucket 3, so if you haven't recorded your pages, please do.

I've filled in:
Kavitha: 180 pages
Tatra: 333 pages

If there are others I should fill in, please let me know.

message 72: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments I'm looking more at planning, because why read when you can plan? Just kidding, I'll read more soon.

Inspired by a summer holiday link (in challenge intro): https://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/...

Thoughts of books that could work (based mostly on ctrl-F for words in titles people have listed):
Martha - Dog Stars - June 21 Take your dog to work day, Aug 26 Dog Appreciation Day
Raya - Bear and the Nightingale - July 10 Teddy Bears' Picnic Day
Joan - Annihiliation - July 14 Pandemonium Day
Joan - Anne of Green Gables - June 8 Best Friends Day
Joan - Golden Son - Aug 11 Son and Daughter Day
Kavitha - Light Between Oceans - Aug 7 Lighthouse Day
Hannah - Midnight's Children - Aug 11 Son and Daughter Day

Other days that seem like we could find somthing for:
Hug Your Cat Day, World Kissing Day (any romance), Cheer up the Lonely Day, Embrace your Geekness Day, Girlfriend's Day, Sisters' Day, Book Lovers Day

There are a ton more, other people may think others are easier.

Hi Traci and all!

I sign up today and was assigned to team Ladybug. I already completed the Kickoff.

Welcome Jenny! I've added you to both tabs of the group spreadsheet linked in message 1.

Quick update of our current status since you're new to how this works: We've finished the tasks for bucket 2, so right now are getting pages before we can start filling bucket 3. You can start reading books towards bucket 3, but if you want them to count, they can't be finished until our page count is over 3000.

message 75: by Martha (last edited Jun 07, 2019 11:59PM) (new)

Martha (marthag503) | 513 comments I read 324 pages today and finished Pachinko. I started Scythe and Noone Is Here Except All of Us. It was a loong day, but I got a lot of reading in. I'm unclear if I can use Pachinko for the continent in Bucket 2.

message 76: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sezziy) | 614 comments Good morning everyone. I finished Dry this morning which tipped us over the 3000 mark for bucket 2. It was paperback if you'd like add it to bucket 3?

message 77: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 384 comments I've just finished The Binding. It was an audiobook, and published in 2019, so it could be used for either option in bucket 3.

As it was an audiobook, I've added all the equivalent pages to today's date on the spreadsheet.

message 81: by Karissa (last edited Jun 08, 2019 05:56AM) (new)

Karissa | 440 comments I was trying to think of questions we could ask and it might be a good narrowing question to ask if the author appears on a well-known reading list, like 1001 books to read before you die.

message 82: by Sarah A. (new)

Sarah A. (cera_az) | 11 comments Traci - I finished Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. It can count as an ebook for bucket 3 or ATY book (children's classic) for bucket 4.

If we finish a book, do we just go ahead and type it into the spreadsheet or tell you or??

Not sure what to do here!

Thanks =)

Super question, Karissa! Because right now we know it is a dead male, which doesn't limit the field by much.

Glad you posted this, your progress on Bowlaway. I've got a lot more to go on that one so will set it aside and we can count your's for "published in 2019." I'll focus on something else.

message 86: by Jillian (last edited Jun 08, 2019 06:40AM) (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments For Bucket 3, I think we still need one more books published in 2019 (though it is possible I'm not seeing the completion posts) and more pages but it looks like we have the different format completed they just need to be filled in on the spreadsheet.

*I added a note for Traci on the spreadsheet of the book I saw the was for 2019 and the first 2 that had different formats. I will let her then add them to the correct spots.

I'm off to complete the next game and then figure out what to start reading.

message 87: by Melinda (new)

Melinda (minna17) I have just finished Sadie on audiobook if we still need a different format for bucket 3.

message 88: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2880 comments We now have earned 2 more questions: Bucket 2 and another for games.

(I think the 1001 author question is creative. Do we also want to think about narrowing down where the author was born? I think Europe or United States would be a good way to narrow that down too.)

message 89: by Ana (new)

Ana | 25 comments Another question that kind of has to do with that one is if the author spoke english. Maybe it can also work?

message 90: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Agh! Time zones! It's early here in Seattle and I'm about to go for a long run so will be gone a few hours. I think the spreadsheet is updated. Since bucket 3 can't be filled until bucket 2 is done, I believe we need 1 more 2019 book. If I'm mistaken, fee free to list the book in bold in Task 3.

Keep brainstorming questions as we'll have bucket 3 done soon! (still need page count).

As for posting, definitely post your pages and games unless you tell me to. I'm trying to keep up with filling out our main table, but people can definitely do that as well (esp when I'm still sleeping on the W. Coast!).

Okay, that's all the time I have right now. I'll be back in 2-3 hours and will post questions to mods then (Was author born in U.S. and was author on 1001 book list are the 2 I'm seeing). I'll also double check posts against the spreadsheet then.

message 91: by Ana (new)

Ana | 53 comments I could probably read a 2019 book today! I have A Justified Murder and I randomly borrowed We Are the Perfect Girl off of overdrive.

Traci, could you do me a huge favor and post when your team has decided to ask a question? I just want to be sure I don't accidentally answer a question when you haven't decided to ask it yet.

You are on spot 90 on the spreadsheet for page count. I added your 176 pages to your list.

We now have the 5000 pages count for Bucket #3 and can start working on Bucket #4.

Marie - Just let me know when you have pages or a game to add and I'm happy to post to the spreadsheet.

Jillian - Thanks for asking Katie about the ARC and updating for Marie.

message 98: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Mods - I will definitely let you know when I'm asking our questions.
Here's our next 3.

3. Bucket 2: Is the author from the US?
4. Games 2: Is one of the author's books on the list of 1001 books to read before you die?
5. Bucket 3: Is the author Caucasian?

message 99: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments Way to go team! I hope you're okay with the questions, I just went for it since I didn't see further chatter. I thought the English language one would be better if we need to narrow down after the US.

Next up: books that are new to you or for the ATY challenge. We have a lot of options for these, so if people want to start reading (though not finishing) for other buckets, that would be good too. If lives are busy or reading is just moving slower, focusing on later buckets is a good option.

message 100: by Traci (last edited Jun 08, 2019 10:00AM) (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1268 comments We do have some people with no games or no pages. If you don't have any, that is completely fine, it's all in fun. But I just wanted to remind you to let me know if you want me to add like Marie did above. If you can't access the spreadsheet and want any more info, please let me know!
