See, my Christmas movie fave is THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, though I am also very fond of RARE EXPORTS: A CHRISTMAS TALE.

Great to hear that in this case people came forward to oppose book banning.

For a good ventilation-duct cleaning? Removal and detonation of the library's meth lab? Enquiring minds want to know!

message 210: by CindySR (new)

CindySR (neyankee) | 26 comments "The city made this unprecedented decision today after receiving results of tests it ordered of air ducts in six of the restrooms in the Main Library at 1001 Arapahoe Avenue. The tests showed that residue inside the ducts had higher than acceptable levels of methamphetamine. The ducts blow air and contaminants outside the building, but it is not yet clear what, if any, level of contaminants is on surfaces,"the release said.

I don't understand. If the ducts take stuff out of the building, why not test the surfaces?

I guess I assumed they would do tests, or have already done them..?

L J | 245 comments Reinforces my decision to continue choosing ebooks available from the library online rather than visiting any library building. Don't know that there's meth but with smoking in the bathrooms and drugs found on premises it's not impossible.
Latest thing at local library: person driving by, maybe planning after hours drop off, called police because there were people having dogfight at library.

Newish member here; I only saw this now. So glad I clicked through! I normally get bored of videos but I watched most of most of these. I think my favorite was the one with the young kids dancing.

Charlene (librarymomforall) | 159 comments These people who wish to ban books are very ignorant of the purpose of the 1st and 14th amendments. They wish to twist the meaning of these to their own thinking. As I have said before if you don't like a book don't read it. If you don't want your child to read a book that is your choice, but you DO NOT have the right to tell me and my child what to read or not read. Thank you Judge Pitman for standing up to these ignorant people.

L J | 245 comments I usually choose a banned book to read during banned book week but didn't bother in 2022 because of how many challenged books I already read that year.

On a related subject:
In elementary school we did art history one grading period every year starting in 3rd grade and that had been part of art class for years, Michelangelo's David etc. included. New liberal schooling? Nope. 1950's and most of the teachers were older including one who taught my father 30+ years earlier.

It's so odd that while reviling people they call "snowflakes," these pro-censorship types seem to be trying to convince us all to be snowflakes, fainting dead away if we see a statue of a naked man...

There is a game I play, not exactly aimed at children but suitable for all ages. One of the things to do is collect works of art. One of the works of art? Statue of David.

Koren (koren56) | 210 comments So excited! Patty Wetterling, the mother of Jacob Wetterling and author of the book I am currently reading, Dear Jacob: A Mother's Journey of Hope, is going to be speaking at our local library in May! They live close to my husband's hometown and everyone in Minnesota knows the name of Jacob Wetterling, who was kidnapped and murdered when he was 11 and missing for over 25 years and his remains were finally found in 2016. Patty never gave up hope until they knew for sure that he was dead. She has become an advocate for missing children.
