For me, this one didn't leave much of an impression.

A hoot. I'd read other stories with those characters. "Are we pining?" I love 'turn-about' tales.

Rachel | 1406 comments It was fun, nice inversion of tropes blah blah. But it won’t be my top vote

Yeah, it was cute. She writes funny characters and is good at drawing from folklore, which I always appreciate. But I guess I wanted a bit more meat to the story, though I apologize for the double entendre. I mean plot, not, you know, lost sheep.

Kaa | 1574 comments Lol, Allison! But I agree with you. It was a charming bit of fluff, but not much more. I think part of the problem, for me, is that I've read so many 'turn-about' stories in my life (I feel like this was a pretty major category of fantasy for teenage girls when I was growing up) that at this point I expect something more than just a flipped narrative.

Same. I think it is the weakest of the lot.

Tria (trialia) | 26 comments I found it thoroughly entertaining. Likely to end up at #2 or #3, I think, but I'd seek out more of the author's writing based on that. And I wouldn't call it "just" a turnabout, as I also enjoyed the way the author handled Rose's appearance and her behaviour with appreciation and without judgement, which hasn't been such a notable trait of the "turnabout" stories I've seen.

Oleksandr Zholud | 927 comments I am not aware about original fairy tales this story makes fun off, so I cannot say I was impressed. But at least I learnt such words and phrases as "pined away", selkie and pooka :)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Well, it's not really making fun of any specific tales, but the whole set of tropes of this kind of fantasy.

Reading it straight, instead of as a gentle satire, does give a different insight, too.

Suncani | 4 comments I like it, I don't think its the strongest of short stories from this writer though and I'm not too sure why there's so much hype around it.
