Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 2198 comments I don’t want to monopolize Nikki’s thread, so here are a few of the reasons I will always hate Maryland/DC metropolitan area:

1. It’s expensive.
2. It’s crowded.
3. The people are @$$holes. Sorry, but it’s true; most people in MD are @$$holes. People are a lot nicer in the South, Southwest, and Northwest.
4. Lots of hippies.
5. It’s humid.
6. Like Nikki said, there are lots of snobs.
7. Most people in customer service roles speak incomprehensible English. Yeah, I said it.
8. Nobody knows how to drive.

Feel free to badmouth your state, a state you have lived in, or would never live in, etc.

Nikki Boisture There are three different Marylands. DC Metro Maryland (where I live now), Baltimore (where I've never lived) and every where else (where I grew up) which may as well be Alabama with all the hillbillies and conservative christians.

1-yep.
2-yep (in the DC Metro part at least)
3-yep.
4-huh? Really?
5-Most definitely. 95 degrees with 97% humidity last weekend.
6-yep (in the DC metro part at least)
7-Definitely. But at least I'm good at decipher accents now.
8-abso-fucking-lutely.

I could add-
1-Crappy public transportation outside of Montgomery County.
2-High taxes (and I'm a liberal softie. so when I complain about the taxes you KNOW they're bad).
3-smog
4-How we can take a precious resource like the Chesapeake Bay and turn it into a cesspool of poisoned fish....I have no idea.
5- Michael Steele. Sorry 'bout that, America.

smetchie | 5731 comments Hippies? I rarely ever see any hippies around here. Lots of homeless in DC, but that's quite the same thing is it?

Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 2198 comments Go to Traders Joe's, Mom's, or REI on any given day.

smetchie | 5731 comments Well I don't really hang out in MD ever. I just drive through when I have to. I mostly just see bad drivers.

message 6: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 5731 comments There aren't very many hippies in Northern VA but everything else on your list pretty much applies.

Well certainly there are hippies at Trader Joe's! You can't complain about that! That's like going into the wild and being angry that there's wildlife.

Kasia Please do tell.

Jini I thought all the hippies were in Portland. The city's teeming with them.

Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 2198 comments As a rule in MD, people don’t turn on their signals, or if they do, it’s at the last minute. They do this because they know the other drivers are just as big a jackass as they are, and if they give the driver in the other lane advance warning that they’re going to merge, the driver in that lane will speed up, just to be a jackass.

Nikki Boisture We make ourselves feel better that at least drivers in Virginia are worse.

Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 2198 comments And the MD driving experience does have its advantages. When I'm in NM or ID, I'm pretty much the most aggressive driver out there, so I can get where I'm going in a hurry.

It still surprises me every time when I turn on my signal and someone actually slows down to allow me to merge.
