Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments Anyone watching this? I finally got started on my DVR'd episodes (it's still airing) and am totally hooked. It threw me back into the world of Matthew and Diana.

Dan in AZ | 2960 comments A personal history?

message 3: by Maureen (new)

Maureen Carden | 173 comments I made it to episode four. I need to pick it up again, because I think it has been beautifully done. I'm just having a hard time getting past the actor they picked for Mathew.

Very amusing, Dan. I'm heading over to my cauldron now to cast a spell in your direction.

Oh that's interesting. I generally accept Matthew Goode as a romantic lead so even though he wasn't who I would have cast I didn't have a problem with him. I struggled more with the actress who plays Diana, but she's grown on me.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16929 comments Carol: After the NHL playoffs are over I may try watching it. I'm torn though because I haven't read the books yet. The previews are very enticing. Do you think reading the book first is advisable?

Not necessarily Ann. I'm glad I read them first (there are 3 books in the series, but I'm guessing Season 1 only covers the first book); they of course provide a tremendous amount of detail and backstory, whereas the series accordions things into short timeframes. And introduces a lot of characters that don't instantly fall into place. But if you're not sure when you'll get to the books I'd say go ahead and watch the series. it might whet your appetite for the books.

Wiley | 95 comments I have not watched this series yet but I loved the first three books. Have not read her latest yet, which I think also ties-in.

Me too. I forgot about it. I wonder if the plan to bring the series back.

Bonnie I am one of the odd people who didn't like the books (read one, started another) but loves the show. I didn't find Matthew romantic or appealing and Diana seemed to go weak like an old romance character. I feel they are well cast, but the show makes how they are seem more sympathetic.

Bonnie: So interesting how different people have different takes. Loved the books as you know. While I enjoyed the series, the casting of Diana and Matthew didn't fit my pictures. I saw Diana as a mature (emotionally) brunette with wild curly hair, and the actress cast struck me as being young and innocent--sort of the way you're describing her in the novel. As for Matthew Goode, well, I've seen him in too may movies to really believe him as our Matthew, although he did okay.

Dan in AZ | 2960 comments Carol, that spell you cast on me a couple months ago arrived today. Strangely enough it came in an Amazon box. When I tried to open it, a voice begged me not to because she was afraid you would be mad. Seems she got lost in one of Amazon’s trans-shipping warehouses somewhere in Missouri and only found her way out on Friday. Anyway, I’m holding the box unopened for now while she and I negotiate a non-aggression pact including a promise that I won’t ship her back to you as long as she doesn’t fulfill your original curse on me. I’ll keep you posted on the outcome.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments My Dan, what a rich fantasy life you have! Enjoy your negotiations with the Amazon Box/Curse. (Sounds like the plot of a Stephen King or Joe Hill novel.)
