I have a question about this series. It seems like it's all about one main character, is that correct? Is there one love interest or multiple? I'm not sure I'd be interested in it as a romance if it's not a 1:1 thing, but it might be interesting as a paranormal read.

message 103: by KiBo (new)

KiBo | 23 comments The Fever series is one of the best PNR written.
The story centers around one character, Mackayla Lane, but is a cast of characters introduced throughout the books.
Yes, one love interest ... Jericho Barrons.
The story flows with twists and turns. Some you will see coming and some will surprise you. Some might even break your heart.
Anyway, KMM takes you on a wonderful journey. You should definitely give it a try.

I second what Kim just said. One of my favorite series, and Jericho Barrons is my favorite book boyfriend of all time. The alpha every other alpha is judged against.

KatieV | 29 comments Thanks Kim and Paganalexandria! I've been curious about this. It's much loved, so she must be doing something right. I was afraid I'd get burned out on one couple, but it sounds like there's a lot of other stuff going on aside from romance/sex which is cool.

KiBo | 23 comments I just finished Once Burned. To be honest, I was skeptical starting this one because I prefer darker themed vampire books but I ended up really liking it.

MadameZelda I just started reading Feast of Fools (The Morganville Vampires, #4) by Rachel Caine .

Katie, did you enjoy Dark Descent? I too, as you do, like to delve back into Ms Feehans Dark series from time to time. I have to say though Dark Descent wasn't my favourite of the series! I liked Joie and her closeness with her family but I had real trouble getting to like the hero!

message 110: by JoRead (new)

JoRead | 19 comments I'll be reading Feverborn soon but I haven't read a good, raw, tug-of-the heart, sexual-feeling kind of Alpha hero in a loooooong while. I've read the usual (BDB, KMM, Kenyon, Feehan, Cole, etc) Any new recommendations?

I liked it. I think it was a good starter book for me to get back into the 'verse. It reminded me of the mythology, etc. At first I was getting Carpathians mixed up with Kresley Cole's vampires and I was wondering why the heck dude didn't just trace them all out of that cave.

The hero was okay. He didn't particularly stand out. Not sure if it's the short format or what. I was beginning to think that Feehan had hopelessly watered down her heroes due to a few reader complaints I've seen about them being too dominant. But, now I'm reading Dark Curse and Nicolas is, so far, pretty darn alpha and dominating :)

It's a must read. I love the author's relax uncomplicated style of writing and the great care she takes of her characters.

Hi Kim, had you read any of this authors other series (Night Huntress) before beginning The Night Prince series? I had thought 'Once Burned' sounded like a great book but then realised it is set in the same Night Huntress world!
So I haven't read them yet as the Night Huntress books are on my to-read list and wasn't sure if The Night Prince books would be better read after that series?

Ooo I shall look forward to Nicolas in Dark Curse then!!
I have to say my favourite books of the series so far are books 1 and 2 (Dark Prince and Dark Desire), Dark Fire and Dark Guardian :-)
I've wanted to get on to reading Dark Destiny for some time - but still got a few books in between to go yet!

I think you'll enjoy if you loved those earlier books too. I'm almost finished now and Nicolas remains dominant and dangerous :) And there's quite a bit of Gregori, Mikhail and other characters from early novels.

Natalie, no I didn't read any of the other books but I'm going to go back and read the Night Huntress series.
You don't necessarily have to read them before you read the Dark Prince series but some of the characters from the other series are written into the storyline. You get enough of their backgrounds to understand their how they fit into Vlad and Leila's story without giving too much away. I am definitely intrigued with Bones and Cat's story so I plan on going back and reading that series.
It seems like for every book I read, I add at least 10 on my to-read list! :-)

KatieV | 29 comments Just started The Darkest Night, book 1 from the Lords of the Underworld series. I may be about 25% in. So far, I'm kind of bored. I feel like I may be missing something because this is a very highly rec'd series and I love a good PNR. Does it get better? Should I hang in there?

message 122: by Dawn (new)

Dawn Ireland (goodreadscomdawn_ireland) | 50 comments I'm on the second book of Kim Harrison's Dead Witch Walking series. The Good, the Bad, and the Undead I'm enjoying the quirky story. It's funny, I'm not normally a "first person" fan. But I really enjoy series like Kitty Norville's werewolves by Carrie Vaughn and Karen Robard's serial killer ghost series The Last Victim. They all have strong heroines as the central character, and each one has a unique view of her world.

message 123: by MadameZelda (new)

MadameZelda Iron KissedI just finished that which is the Mercy Thompson series. I am hoping to also read Kitty Norville. I'm somewhere around book 3 or 4 Kim Harrison's series.

You'll really enjoy the Kitty Norville series. Who else but Carrie Vaughn would name a werewolf 'Kitty?" It's a running joke and made me smile every time.

I tried that series after everyone kept telling me to give it a try. I never made it past book 2. I would say finish this one, then decide after if you are going to continue.

KatieV | 29 comments Thanks, Darcy. I think I will finish since I used an Audible credit. I'm just disappointed that I'm not more into it. Maybe it will improve or maybe it's just not my cuppa.

I love Cole's IAD, Patricia Briggs, and many of Feehan's Dark novels. I have tried the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, but can't seem to get into them. What are your favorite PNRs?

I felt the same with the first 3 books in the series.
Once I got to book #4, The Darkest Whisper (Lords of the Underworld #4) by Gena Showalter The Darkest Whisper and met the harpies, I really fell in love with the series.
My absolute favorite is Kaia & Strider's The Darkest Surrender (Lords of the Underworld #8) by Gena Showalter The Darkest Surrender book #8.
Books 4-9 were the best IMO, but I felt the series started to go downhill from there.

You are very welcome!

The best audiobooks IMO are the Immortals After Dark books read by Robert Petkoff. I have listened to the entire series multiple times and they NEVER get old.

For me they are very hit and miss these days. I'll read one that really drags me in and then another that I just want to end. I'm thinking about trying her new series Shadow Rider, but see mixed reviews. The one thing I'm tired of is the 30 page sex scenes and some of the reviews lead me to believe this is another one of those.

I just started Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. Just a couple chapters in, but it has grabbed my interest and made me laugh. Hoping this will be a winner for me. I wish Robert Petkoff was narrating, but I almost always wish that.

If that is how you feel you might want to skip this one or get it from the library.

I like sex in my books, like to read erotica, but there I don't really expect much of a story. In Shadow Rider there is lots of sex and it gets in the way of the story. She could have done so much more with the Riders, explained more. Instead it was very secondary. I wish I had waited for my library and not used a credit at audible.

KatieV | 29 comments Thanks. I'm thinking I may have to skip Shadow Rider or wait for a sale. I read erotica too, but when I'm not reading it I get irritated when sex is used as a page filler/ plot substitute. Sad because it sounded interesting.

Kaylee Stranz | 1 comments Any new series to read thats outside the standards that always get recommended? I have only ever truly loved one series start to end - that being The Fever Series. I have quit almost every other series Ive started from boredom with them.
I have read Dannika Dark series', Suzanne Wright, Stephanie Nelson, Cole, Jennings, Ward to name a few.

message 148: by KatieV (new)

KatieV | 29 comments Have you tried Patricia Briggs? it's not all romance, but neither was the Fever series. There are plenty of Fae nasties in Mercy Thompson and Alpha and Omega.

I recently finished Ilona Andrews "The Edge" series which was fantastic and darkly twisted. The first is not quite as good as the rest IMHO, but they keep getting better.

message 149: by PepperP0t (last edited Jan 02, 2017 07:42AM) (new)

PepperP0t @Kaylee

You probably keep getting the same recommendations because there's nothing to go on. you say you like fever what did you like? the writing? the characters? the world? the story? what are you looking for? YA or Adult? PNR or UF? Shifter, Fae or something else? do you want the same couple all the way through? what didn't work for the others besides they weren't fever?

If you want help you need to give some clues and not just declare you're bored and ask for suggestions. (sorry for the rant)
