The story of Eli, a broken man finding himself again and building a new life, with the help of Abra, a complicated woman with issues of her own.

Eli had been accused of murdering his wife right after proceedings for their divorce had started, and his life imploded. He lost his job as a lawyer, most of his friends and his good name, and after sleepwalking through life for the past year, he is now in Whiskey Beach, where he is tasked with caring for his beloved grandmother's house while she is recovering from an injury.

There, he meets Abra, his grandmother's good friend and housekeeper, among other things, who intrigues Eli with her colorful lifestyle and nurturing nature that slowly draws him out of his shell and helps him get on the path to healing.

He is finally taking action in uncovering the truth about his wife's death and clearing his name, as well as solving the mystery surrounding his grandmother's house with the long history that involves scandal and pirate treasure.

The two end up falling in love, and help each other become better people, with (view spoiler).

It takes him a while and some clever thinking, but Eli eventually discovers that (view spoiler).

A complicated story with a happy ending, but not one of my favorites by the author.

I got this as an ARC for my job. And Laura did not disapoint! I dont think I have ever read a bad book from this author. The book goes back and forth between two different cases where girls are murdered, and one lady who gets in the middle. Set during a time where race plays a big factor (1960's) and the difference between the killing of a white girl and a black women.

Review:
I was a little doubtful to read this book, I've tried to read The Elegance of the Hedgehog previously and I couldn't get through it, it just bored me.
But I enjoyed this one, it's a weird book, for most part of it you don't know what's happening and why are we being told this story. I thought it was a standalone, but it isn't. So it's the type of book where they present you the world and the main conflict but won't get to far on that matter.

Clara and María are distantly related by magic, and we get to know part of their origins and their destiny. There's a wide cast of characters that were difficult to tell apart, I constantly had to check the list of characters at the back of the book.

I'd like for it to be a standalone and close the story in just one book, because I can't see myself reading the next one, and it probably win't be translated to spanish in the near future.

The writing is beautiful, and it gave it another level.

Newly single Kerry Williams is at her wit’s end. She's juggling her injured father’s care, a new job as the manager of a hip new restaurant and her therapy dog Willow volunteering at the Veteran’s Center – all while struggling to rise above her humiliating heartbreak. When her father's caretaker fails to show one evening, she’s terrified she’ll lose her job. And then Willow runs away. Panicked, Kerry gives chase and immediately runs smack into a tall, dark and sexy wall of muscle, palming a squirming bundle of fur. Her new hero seems like an answer to her prayers.

The last thing K-9 officer Caleb Bradshaw wants, is to babysit his neighbor's father and her dog. He’s facing a potential career-ending injury and grieving the death of his working partner, Trigger. Sure he can handle a cranky old man, but the quiet comfort of Willow who follows him around with liquid-eyed sympathy tugs at the heart he’s trying to keep walled-off after his many painful losses.

Kerry knows Willow can ease Caleb’s grief, but he continues to push her away. Even though her life is in shambles and she too should walk, Kerry knows she can’t and won’t. Will Caleb accept her help or will he close himself off completely?

Thoughts:
This story had me laughing and smiling all.The way though it thanks to Willow, his a adorable and a little escape artist who is determined to help Caleb and his owner Kerry come together. As for the two main characters it took me a while to like them but the more I read the more I liked them and could see both of their points of view, Caleb had just lost his best friend /partner ,his dog Trigger and was trying to find his way , while Kerry seemed at first a little pushy but she grew on me like Caleb it, would I recommend it yes .

I just enjoy so much this type of books hahaha.

In this book we follow the "what if" scenarios of Gemma's life.
One is the path her life would have taken if she crushed her ex's wedding, the other is the path if she'd stopped her best friend's wedding. Those weddings of course are the same day and in diferent cities.

I must say, both of the wedding crashes were hilarious.
This book didn't turned out as I expected in the beggining, but i liked the development of the facts either way.
Anyways it is a funny romantic story about true love and following your guts.

She’s hunting. He’s watching.

Special Agent Macy Crow is a survivor. After a vicious hit-and-run nearly kills her, she gets right back to work, and now she’s gunning for a spot on the FBI’s elite profiling team. As an audition, she offers to investigate the recently discovered bones of Tobi Turner, a high school girl who disappeared fifteen years ago.

While investigating with local sheriff Mike Nevada, a former colleague and onetime lover, Macy discovers a link between Tobi’s case and several others that occurred around the same time as her disappearance. As Macy interviews victims and examines old cases, she uncovers a sinister picture of a stalker who graduated to sexual assault—and then murder.

Macy and Nevada race to put this monster behind bars before he can come out of hiding. But the murderer’s had years to hone his skills, and soon Macy herself becomes a target. She’s no stranger to pain and terror, but will Macy’s first profiling case be her last?

My thoughts
This is the 3rd book I've read from this author and so far she has never let me down , her stories all was romantic suspense with a stronger emphasis on the suspense/thriller plot line than the romance.

I always forget how thrilling this kind of books are.

I thought this was so engaging all way long, I really liked the MC Erika.
We're following the case of the murder of a young socialité, the police have not much on the case and Erika is assigned as the main detective on the case. But she hasn't have much on her side. Her chief doesn't want to mess with the victim's family, because they're powerful and seem to be superprotected by politics. That was so upsetting.

But as we go, we see the perspective of the murderer and it is very unsettling. As Erika gets nearer to resolving the case it all gets more dangerous for her.

I don't want to give away too much, but I have to say this was super entertaining and I will surely read more about this detective.

Flight or Fright 17 Turbulent Tales by Stephen King
Title: Flight or Fight

Author: Stephen King and Bev Vincent

Ggenre:Horror

Pages : 3
Read:July 18,2019

Fasten your seatbelts for an anthology of turbulent tales curated by Stephen King and Bev Vincent. This exciting new anthology, perfect for airport or airplane reading, includes an original introduction and story notes for each story by Stephen King, along with brand new stories from Stephen King and Joe Hill.

About the Book:

Stephen King hates to fly.

Now he and co-editor Bev Vincent would like to share this fear of flying with you.

Welcome to Flight or Fright, an anthology about all the things that can go horribly wrong when you're suspended six miles in the air, hurtling through space at more than 500 mph and sealed up in a metal tube (like—gulp!—a coffin) with hundreds of strangers. All the ways your trip into the friendly skies can turn into a nightmare, including some we'll bet you've never thought of before... but now you will the next time you walk down the jetway and place your fate in the hands of a total stranger.

Featuring brand new stories by Joe Hill and Stephen King, as well as fourteen classic tales and one poem from the likes of Richard Matheson, Ray Bradbury, Roald Dahl, Dan Simmons, and many others, Flight or Fright is, as King says, "ideal airplane reading, especially on stormy descents... Even if you are safe on the ground, you might want to buckle up nice and tight."

My thoughts

Rating :4

Would I recommend it?Yes

Would I read anything else by these authors? Yes to reading Stephen King and a maybe to a few of the other authors.

What a read ,you get all of these different authors in one book and each of the 17 stories are different , some are better then others , but over all I differently liked what I read and enjoyed it as well, of course if your like me and is scared of heights and flying then. You might want to pass on this one. There something for everyone , with that said I want to thank Netgalley for letting me read and review it exchange for my honest opinion.

I picked this book to read because it was my local library's August book of the Month...I found the entire story really interesting because I truly understand the obsession in the art of Fly-Tying...my Daddy is avid fly fisherman & not only that he also ties flies and they are gorgeous. I just couldn't picture my Daddy breaking into a Natural History museum to walk way with 299 birds/feathers all in the name of gathering materials for the ultimate fishing fly. I thought the book was very well written but it left a lot of unanswered questions for me. The author got into fishing & fly tying to get over the trauma of being in Iraq during the war. My Daddy had fallen & broken his back & my Momma thought he needed to do something in order to stay busy since he was very active before he fell. I just spent a week in the mountains of North Carolina taking my Daddy fishing - he will be 85 his next birthday - I got caught up in his obsession as well. I hate to fish but I certainly understood the art of those flies. PS..the trout seemed to really like them as well....
