I remember reading a book of ghost stories when I was in elementary school (late 90s, around 1998), & one was about a cursed hooded chair while another was about a girl who wanted to return to her village & a gentleman on a horse took her; he thought she'd fallen asleep when she became heavy in his arms, only to be told by one of the villagers when arriving at the village gates that she'd died years before...I remember the jacket art had a pale man's face on it & was a dark blue color, if that helps. I think another story had a married couple & the wife didn't appear to age...? (I think she was actually some kind of ghost/spirit, possibly a demon.) The book was pretty old, definitely pre-1990.

I looked it up on Wikipedia to see what the stories were; sadly, none of them were about the hooded chair or a young girl's skeleton being returned to her village/town.

Yes. I even had a dream one night that I was at the library & found it, but I woke up & couldn't remember what the book itself looked like. >:-[

I glanced through the stories: the story about the gentleman taking a girl back to her village on his horse is "A Ride for a Corpse" and the one about the cursed chair is, obviously, "The Hooded Chair." I didn't see one about a man whose wife didn't age, though (although "The Mummy's Ghost"(view spoiler)[ was not a mummy at all, but the ghost of the Egyptologist's murdered wife, who he had wrapped up and put in a mummy sarcophagus. That's it! I googled the title &, low & behold, one of the covers was a creepy, pale (actually bluish), ghostly man - the cover I remember from my childhood! Thanks so much, everyone, for helping me find this book; now I can buy it on amazon!
