I imagine they meant to shelve this one: Snuff or another book with the same name (there's also one by Terry Pratchett), but just clicked on the first book called Snuff that came up, which is Palahniuk's.

Another group I'm in uses an online library system catalogue to determine if a book is YA/children's. At least then professionals are doing the shelving. Then we could check those books against AR Bookfinder. There is still the question of books that are not in the library system (the other group allows them to count as adult).

message 52: by Karen Michele (new)

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 2062 comments I'm in that other group, too (hi, Rosemary) and if the SRC moderators ever wanted to go to using another source for authority shelving, I would suggest WorldCat. When you search there, the categories (YA, juvenile, etc) are right beside the book after a one click search.

If you want to claim a Big Books ticket, you must specifically say so in your post - merely including a tally at the beginning or end of your post is not sufficient. Make sure to note "Big Books ticket" or "BB ticket" in your post. The BB claim must be made with the specific book posting - a list at the end or beginning of the post is not sufficient.
Please repost indicating that you want to claim a big book ticket at the top of your post

If you are claiming a BB ticket, you must include the number of pages in the book.

Dave Eggers is not a Goodreads Author. Goodreads Authors will have "(Goodreads Author)" after the author's name on a book page, "Goodreads Author" on the top right of an author's profile page or will be marked with an asterisk after the author's name on your bookshelves.

Please repost indicating that you would like to claim a big book ticket at the top of your post and include the page numbers. Reposts must be complete so include book links and any necessary information (you can click edit and copy your post including the html code book links- just copying a post does not copy the links)

Unfortunate is not the adjective that I would describe to this situation. There is no listing of children's genre on the remaining 12 books in this series. This book only had 2 listing for children's and that was toward the end of the listing. It is not a children's book so it will not be listed on AR and I even checked on AR- since she was a British author. I had planned on reading more of the series but I do not want to lost the time spent in this 417 page book. I would appeal to the spirit of the rule and not the letter of the rule which I believe to be to prevent people from reading inappropriately easy children's books. Please advise is I need to plead my case to the other moderators.

We all know there are several books which have been shelved inappropriately. I don't think it's fair, given the vast number of participants and work for our three moderators this season, to ask them to approve "exceptions" on a case-by-case basis. And it's up to them if/how/when they want to change the rules.

Goodreads is a crowd-sourced website. We can't control how people shelve books and how these books may be aggregated into genres by Goodreads' algorithms. We created task 5.10 for just this reason. It gives you a place to put books with the genre children's on the main page that do not appear in AR Bookfinder.

Mindy, I saw your new post for Watership Down. Thanks for reposting. For future reference, you don't need to provide all the information you did. ;-)

All we're looking for is the line that looks like this:
IL: UG - BL: 6.2 - AR Pts: 25.0

The easiest way to get this is to put the title of your book in the quick search box on the AR Bookfinder site (ISBNs work sometimes, too). Then just put your cursor next to the line that starts with IL, highlight it, copy it, and paste it into your post. This might help some others, too!
