YA paperback comedy mystery series of about 5 books. Published in early 00s (I think). I read them 2007-2008 and the library copies were fairly ragged looking. The covers were drawn but didn't pop out at you like some of the drawn cartoon covers do. The books were about two Jewish sisters that obtained new identities, dyed their hair blonde, and secretly moved out of their stepmom's home after their father died. I think they move from Indiana to a town called Venice? or maybe somewhere in California? In the new town the younger sister becomes an unofficial detective. She also watched General Hospital and referenced it a couple times.
