Story setting is that humans are able to control everything and do everything using their minds, like for eg they can change clothes by thinking about it. (though, this is what I vaguely recall, might not be entirely correct) The society that this story is set in is such that most people accept this ability that they have, and wholeheartedly support the leadership of their society, but there is a group who do not and claim that there is an "outdated"/"older" version of humanity who are left behind, basically they do not support their societal leaders and their abilities (I'll call this group of people Outliers in this post, i can't remember what theyre called in the book)
The main character is a boy who is the son of a high-ranking person in society (the father), I think his father has something to do with the human "versions" too. The son slowly starts to doubt his father and this privilege also, and he makes friends with one of the Outliers, and together they go and find out what happened to his mother. It's later discovered that she "reverted" herself back to a previous version of humanity, and that there is a countdown to a new update. The main character and the Outlier rush to stop this update but fail. I think the story ends with humanity being updated to the "newest version".
There is also a second book, which serves as a prequel, which talks about a version of humanity before this book.
