When You're Not Reading a Cozy
Karen — I guess I tuned in not expecting it to be too serious, though I would have liked more directly pertaining to the book. I mean, there was some, and like you said a lot of comparisons and hypotheticals.
Meg — You’re cracking me up. Glad you like my contributions to the challenge. I have a lot of “Q” books, two “X,” and a few for “Z.” I don’t think I’ll go the crazy route and go for one of each letter as some of the diehard challenge participants will. 🙄

No, Meg, no!
What mother in her right mind enlists the help of her fourteen-year-old daughter so she can have an affair with her husband's best friend? Adrienne Brodeur had just such a mother, and she tells all in her autobiography, Wild Game: My Mother, Her Lover, and Me. It's all true and quite a read!

The Quokkas' Christmas Quest by AA Jonathan Macphersonhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Here is my 4 star review of A Cold Trail
by Robert Dugoni. This author brings murder, mystery, and suspense to a police procedural novel. He also uses vivid descriptions, well-developed characters, a great setting, realistic dialogue, and a page-turning story line.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished a short romantic suspense novella that is a prequel to a series. My 2.5 star review rounded up to 3 stars: On His Watch

I was looking forward to reading this children's edition of The Nutcracker by words&pictures during the Christmas season, but I was disappointed. Colourful but confusing (to me).

I absolutely love What Can You Do With a Line?, that makes my fingers itchy to try drawing! It would be a great Christmas (or other) gift, along with some pencils. Perfect pressie!

The Lions of Fifth Avenue by Fiona Davis. It was very good. Set in two time periods 1914 and 1993. Very good ending. Nice history of NY Public Library.

I've just finished Amy Stewart's delightful Miss Kopp Just Won't Quit, the third in this wonderful historical fiction mystery series, based on a real lady cop. New Jersey in 1916. I'm sure glad she won't quit!

I think the author does a terrific job of keeping the facts and blending in some fiction to create a family storyline. It's always a surprise to read the author's note at the end to discover much more was true than I thought.
Richard Russo's characters always seem like people I'd recognise. In Chances Are, three guys and the girl they all (secretly?) adored were in college together during the draft for Vietnam. The guys are now 66, having a reunion, but where's Jacy?

I read a middle grade fantasy book this week:
Unlocked by Shannon Messenger https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Terrific book by Eleanor Levenson, illustrated by Paul Boston, that is just what is says it is: World Politics in 100 Words: Start conversations and spark inspiration. I give the list of words and share some of the illustrations about how the world works.
5★ Link to my World Politics review with illustrationsGreat for adults - not just for kids!
Lucky's by Aussie author Andrew Pippos may have struck me on a bad day. Perhaps I wasn't paying enough attention - I got confused.
3.5★ Link to my Lucky's review
What do you get when you mix a legal thriller with a medical thriller and add a bit of romance? You get a fantastic novel: Lethal Intent
by Cara C. Putman. It was filled with lots of hope, warmth, love, friendship and romance against a backdrop of treachery, crimes, ethical dilemmas, arrogance, secrets and more. If you enjoy suspenseful legal and medical thrillers with a bit of romance, then I recommend that you check out this novel and see if you enjoy it as much as I did.

I'm just finishing Dead Reckoning: The Story of How Johnny Mitchell and His Fighter Pilots Took on Admiral Yamamoto and Avenged Pearl Harbor by Dick Lehr Dead Reckoning: The Story of How Johnny Mitchell and His Fighter Pilots Took on Admiral Yamamoto and Avenged Pearl Harbor. Very good. I've read a bunch of stuff on WWII, & should read more on WWI - so much of WWII directly stems from less-than-intelligent decisions made earlier.
My review for
The Garden of Promises and Lies by Paula Brackstonhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Jane Harper's Tasmanian coast in The Survivors is just as compelling as her outback in The Dry and The Lost Man. Evelyn Bay is such a small town that it's almost a locked room mystery. Loved it!
5★ Link to my Survivors review
Jane wrote: "Starting Finding Dorothy today."Finished it, then reread Rest You Merry, which I hadn't read in at least 20 years. My copy is falling apart - it's from the first printing in 1979.
The only thing keeping my attention right now is middle grade so I am currently reading an mg ghost story. The Forgotten Girl
I finished a police procedural that also has a cozy vibe to it with some amateur sleuths joining in the investigation: The Postscript Murders
by Elly Griffiths.My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished a police procedural / crime thriller: Death of a Messenger
by Robert B. McCaw.If you want to be transported to Hawaii, read a good book, and learn some things along the way, you may enjoy this novel.
My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
