Bernard Smith | 3030 comments Thanks. Stevenage is only a town, but a hi tech one. One strange thing about it: the motorway runs UNDERNEATH it! (Specifically under a shopping mall)

That's true!
The universe is expanding faster than scientists thought, a study confirms — a 'crisis in cosmology' that could require a 'new physics'

The two glowing eyes of the face each represent the center of a galaxy. Young blue stars help make up the outline of the face, while other groupings of new stars seem to sketch out a mouth and nose. https://t.co/q4QxWDXe8s

For the first time, a new study shows that changes in cognitive performance correlates with changes in brain structure in NASA astronauts following spaceflight.

Ian Miller | 269 comments Grasshopper wrote, "The universe is expanding faster than scientists thought". True, but the actual rate has been a hot debate for some time. If we plot the "best dated measured rate" vs time, it has more or less doubled, I think, over the last 90 years. It is actually a rather hard thing to measure because you need different measures to determine the rate a galaxy is leaving us and how far away it is. There are a lot of assumptions involved, and as they get pared down, the speeds seem to get faster. Right now there are two way of calculating the expansion rate, and thew two methods differ by about 6%, from memory.
