I read this book within the last two years,and it was new at that time,

Written in first person
Victorian era?
Man living in falling apart house with brother in the country
Father was a botanist (?) often in South America
Son is given a chance to go to South America, can’t remember why but I think it’s about dad.
Climbing in mountains and group he’s with finds a village where they make clocks. Or someone makes clocks.
