SOLVED. Fantasy book about characters that can digest minerals and gain powers [s]

Genre: Fantasy

Plot Details: Here is what I remember. The main character does not know that they have these powers until it is explained to them. They were just able to manipulate peoples feelings. As the book progresses, you find out that people can do different opposing abilities depending on the mineral/element that they eat. For instance, they can either read a person's emotions, or they can change the emotions (make them compliant or angry). They can push objects away or pull them towards them. This helped the characters jump from pillars to pillars very quickly and thus travel great distances fast. I remember a part in the story where they were doing this in the desert from I think telephone pole to pole. They could also read other's powers around them or hide their powers. And I believe that each person could do only one of any of these powers. But, the main character could do all of them which was rare. Also, depending on how much of the power they used, they could use up the mineral in their body and then have to eat more in order to gain the power back. So, the characters always had to carry with them vials of the mineral that gave them powers.
