Cinder
Completed 9/7/14
5 Stars
This was an awesome book...why oh why did it take me so long to read it? I loved the modern cyborg twist on the classic Cinderella story. There are a handful of common traits, but I fell like the story stood one it's own two feet...or should I say foot! Mistreated girl sees Prince, Prince falls in love, and we find out that the mistreated girl is not all that she appears to be.
I can wait to see what happens in the next book!
Abbie wrote: "How is Cinder going for you Ashley? Hope you are enjoying it as much as I did!"I am loving it so far!! I'm only to chapter 8 so far, but I plan on reading a good chunk today and probably finishing tomorrow. I'm sad for Peony:(
I really liked how the author started out talking about her cyborg leg in the very beginning. I assume she is foreshadowing the significance of her "boot" or "foot" because it seems to be referenced often.
I'd be willing to do a buddy read or if the second books fits into our next roll with you:)
Week 2:◆
Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith (Leo Demidov #1) Finished 9/8 Rating ★★
This book has been on my radar for quite a while since it earned a lot of literary awards. I however did not like it. I thought the time (1930's - 1950's), The Location (Russia) and the general feeling (Paranoia) was just totally depressing, depressing, depressing. You couldn't trust anyone because they would turn you in as a traitor to the cause, everyone was starving. It was just bleak throughout.
Here are all the awards it won:
Man Booker Prize Nominee for Longlist (2008), Barry Award for Best First Novel (2009), Anthony Award Nominee for Best First Novel (2009), Dilys Award Nominee (2009), Galaxy British Book Awards for New Writer of the Year (2009)
Thriller Award for Best First Novel (2008), Los Angeles Times Book Prize, The Crime Writers' Association Ian Fleming Steel Dagger (2008), Desmond Elliott Prize Nominee for Shortlist (2008), Kono Mystery ga Sugoi for Best Translated Mystery Novel of the Year in Japan (2009), Japan Adventure Fiction Association Prize for Best Translated Novel (2008)
I guess I just didn't get the attraction. I only gave it ★★'s because basically I just wanted to get it done.

uuugghhh! That sucks! There's nothing more disappointing than reading a book you've had on your list for a while and it ends up being a dud:(
I am a little more than half-way done with my book... I'm reading
..C title and number 2 in series :)
Ashley wrote: "Abbie wrote: "How is Cinder going for you Ashley? Hope you are enjoying it as much as I did!"I am loving it so far!! I'm only to chapter 8 so far, but I plan on reading a good chu..."
Sure thing! Let's hope we can, we need a 2!

Wow...I guess I can take this one off my TBR List!
Sheila wrote: "We should get double credit Catherine since we both are doing books with C and a number 1 or 2"Haha,so are Ashley and I, Cinder is # 1 in the Lunar series!
Extra credit for the whole team!
Week 2 - Cinder by Marissa Meyer
♥♥♥♥♥
I figured I would like this book, I just didn't realize how much I would like it. Cinder is a cyborg from the futuristic city of New Beijing, 126 years after World War IV. Prince Kai meets Cinder when he brings his broken android to her shop. She falls in love, but not in the typical "fall all over myself", gushie way. As we follow along Cinder's journey we discover that Cinder is learning secrets right along with the reader.
Meyer kept me engrossed in the story, and every time I tried to shut the book it called me back to read "just one more chapter". I loved the slight tips of the hat to the original Cinderella: making Cinder's leg a character in itself, the reference to the old car looking like a pumpkin, etc. I also liked the fact that "Cinderella" was turned into a bad ass cyborg instead of the doe eyed, blonde from the Disney era. I cannot wait to read the next book!
Week 2's book now finished and reviewed:Chalice, Robin McKinley, 3 stars:
Review: Disappointing. I feel as though I want to be more charitable about reviewing this book, but I find I just can't.
What seemed like a great idea at the start, with lots of character background and place setting ended up being more wordy than the Lord of the Rings. This wasn't just relegated to the narrative. Each time the main character, the Chalice, spoke to the Master, or even the Grand Seneschal, we were greeted with paragraphs and paragraphs of dialogue going back and forth. Nothing ever really got decided by these conversations, just like the plot never really advanced in the narrative. It was just wordy.
I honestly felt as though this could have been condensed into about 50 pages as the background for a more thrilling story set in this world. But, as it was, the story didn't grab me.
Especially disappointing where the reviews on the back that stated the ending was a surprise for fantasy readers. It wasn't. It was exactly what I figured would happen again. This story is basically a Beauty and the Beast story. Robin obvious loves telling this story, but she just does it better justice in each of her previous Beauty and the Beast stories: Beauty and Rose Daughter.(less)
ok...this is how tired I am! I sooooo thought I posted here on 8/9 when I finished! I read
which is C title and number 2 in series :)Rate: 5 stars
Review...well..I am certainly enjoying this series...this book is definitely a cute mystery..with a little romance thrown in...there is definite chemistry between the Duke and Georgia Fenchurch. I am hoping that the next book will make the "impossible" match possible! It is a good continuation from book 1, and the characters all work well together. there were some points where I just wanted tpo reach into the book to put the Duke and Georgia together, but I can wait...
