I decided since this is my third time playing this game that I am going to do a little challenge within the challenge for me. I am at least going to try to read books each week that qualify for both the series number AND the alternate. This is strictly for my own entertainment here. I actually found a book that qualifies.◆
A Shred of Evidence by Jill McGown (Lloyd & Hill #7)
...amazingly I just got this today! :) Pam JenoffI will check my list though...to see if I have a number 7 in the great pile!

Man, I am so bummed. I just read that one of our favorite TV shows got canceled - Longmire based on a great series of books by Craig Johnson.
I am so doubtful, but the only book on my reading list with an author starting with J is Joanne Harris, Peaches for Monsieur Le Cure. However, it's a book over 500 pages. Guess I'll get my head down and start reading!Peaches for Monsieur le Curé

Lol! Ezi,
I have picked the right book for the right team!!!
What can I say, I have this weird thing about reading about serial killers. So the team name kind of matches my reading! Oh and how I love Dexter!, he is such a lovable serial killer....
Good thing our book club meeting is at 6:00 on Thursday, and not midnight!

The Longmire series is by another J author. hahaI do love Dexter though. I need to get caught up on him. Is he on Netflix?

Not sure...
I have watched all of it...too bad it ended....
I love the Dexter tv series too!! I've only read the 1st book but for some reason the rest have fallen through the black hole that is my TBR shelf:p

Abbie,
I was worried about the book club time because I gotta go to work the next day

We don't stay too late, usually an hour and a half to two hours.
Not sure if that works for you since I am not sure when you get up in the mornings. You can always stop by for a few. Are you talking bout the Thursday meeting or the Saturday game night?

A Shred of Evidence by Jill McGown (Lloyd & Hill #7)Finished 8/31 ★★★★
This was the first book by this author that I have read and I only found it when I was messing around with the GR readers also enjoyed feature from another books main page.
This murder mystery, set in England, revolves around the investigation of the murder of a teenage school girl. Lots of people come under suspicion when it is discovered that she reportedly had written torrid love letters to one of the teachers whose wife actually is the one to stumble across the crime scene.
It was a good book that showed how even possibly unfounded accusations can affect a persons life and career. I give this book ★★★★ and will definitely seek out more books in this series.
I just got home, try to catch up with GR.We had a wonderful time in Austin, and now it's time to recuperate!
Sheila wrote: "I got lucky this week. We will see how often I am able to do this."I was looking at Lover Avenged by J.R. Ward which is book #7 in the series, but then I noticed it is 527 pages! LOL. So I decided to start with a shorter book:) Too many challenges, so little time;)
Sheila wrote: "Is everyone having a good holiday weekend?"We went to a bon fire Friday night and a cookout Sunday afternoon:)
Now I need to catch up on some reading.
Sounds like fun Ashley. We have Red, White and Boom fireworks that were postponed on July 4th due to flooding on the Mississippi River.
Sheila wrote: "Sounds like fun Ashley. We have Red, White and Boom fireworks that were postponed on July 4th due to flooding on the Mississippi River."I love Harry Dresden. Haven't got that far in the series yet though.
The Quickie by James PattersonFinished 9/01 ♥♥♥
Lauren and Paul Stillwell have been married for many years. Lauren’s world is flipped upside down when she catches Paul and a leggy blond arm in arm. Lauren exacts her revenge by having a quickie affair of her own. Her steamy night turns into horror when she witnesses a brutal murder. Lauren becomes determined to get to the bottom of this messy situation. But things get more complicated for Lauren when twists, turns and flooring discoveries and events unfold.
I am a Patterson fan. I tend to like his books. I thought this one was just…meh. Lauren is supposed to be this big bad homicide detective, but her choices and actions make me question her qualifications. It seemed most of the time she would squeeze out of sticky situations because the “luck fairy” was on her side. It was an entertaining and easy read all in all. There were a lot of shocking revelations, after shocking revelation. I don’t think there were enough, might want to put one more twist in there;) I didn’t love this book, but I didn’t hate it either.
Double Dexter
Completed 9/2
4 stars.
Another great book By Jeff Lindsay! I really do love this series, and love to see what Dexter gets into next...or should we say out of next....
Someone actually witnesses Dexter and his Dark Passanger, and instead of going to the police, he tries to be just like Dexter. Bodies end up everywhere Dexter foes, and police think that it is actually Dexter! To get out of it, he must have his brother Brian involved since Dexter is being watched.
But once Double Dexter takes his kids....Dexter no longer wants his play his games. And Dexter is on the hunt for his double.

I need to get back into this series. I loved the first book so much! Does the tv show follow the books?

Some....the first two seasons maybe.
But some character live in the book that died in the show and vice versa...either way both the books and the shows are great.

ooooooooooohhhhhhhh :0 I'm going to have to start that series up again! I'm in the middle of a book club read. We'll have to see what we roll on Friday ;)
The roll is taking to long...already tapping my foot!By the way, in my group we are playing Clue, and I gave had one lady sitting there for awhile. We need at least three for a team. Would anyone be interested in playing with her?

I'm afraid I am over challenged already Abbie, I better not sign up for the Clue game. Thanks for asking though.
And I just finished it at lunch break today. Will write up the review as soon as I get home tonight. Looking at the Cluedo challenge now. I'm a solid maybe :)
It seems I'm not a part of the group that the challenge is in. Another thing for when I he home. Very happy to play the casual challenge there :)
finished tonight :)
..Pam Jenoff5 stars
yet another good WWII story...I just love how she puts the story together in what seems an effortless way. I have read several other books by this author, and it amazes me how she can create a storyt that has so much reality in it, that you truly feel you are a part of the resitance, fighting against the Nazis, and all the atrocities that so many people tried to hide from....by burying their heads in the sand so to speak...many people didn't believe what was happeniong until it was too late, or until they actually saw it...nd even then...many still were in denial. Sadly...even though this story is fiction, it is based in real fact, and it is quite disturbing to know that some madman cold have degraded humanity to such a low level.
anyway..enough of my preaching...lol...I have to ay that I did enjoy it very much.

I agree Abbie. I'm anxious for the next role too! I've been trying to read my book club reads while I wait bc I don't want to get sucked into a good book before Friday. I'm reading Brave New World, but I'm having a hard time getting into it:/
Done! Four stars:Written in the style of Gentlemen and Players (another Joanne Harris favourite of mine, this story offered the shared viewpoints of Vianne Rocher and Monseiur le Cure --Father Francis-- to tell this story. It was actually an amazing idea. Francis' internal struggles are both interesting and understandable when put into the lime light, as is how much he has learned and grown in the eight years since the events in Chocolat. Vianne, of course, is just amazing.
This book kept the theme of people writing from the dead that was picked up in The Lollypop Shoes, regularly mentioning Zozie from that book, though not in a way that would alienate readers who have read these out of order. It also returns the cast of characters in Chocolat, as well as the town itself, and we get to see from Vianne point of view how much has changed, and from Francis' point of view how and why these changes have occurred.
It really is an amazingly put together book. Not a quiet moment in it at all. Suspense came from a couple of different angles. On the social level, there was the question of who fathered Josephine's eight year old boy, Pilou. On the controversial side came the Woman in Black and her parallels to a young Father Francis. And, of course there was the variety of other characters, good and bad, taking up the small muslim town within the town of Lansquenet.
One thing that struck me from the beginning of this book was the interaction of Facebook and Powerpoint and iPods. Ever before with these books, there's this sense of timelessness about them. They're not quite set in the present, but they're not that far back in history either. They're kind of allegorical, and the time doesn't matter so much as the story that's being told. Those dated instruments being named brings across a very particular point of the old taking over the new and the difficulties that that takes on. It was a completely new angle for these books, and I loved that.
Peaches for Monsieur le Cure was the very perfect ending to this series of books. It gave the closure of a whole host of characters and yet left open the story of Vianne as, with such a character, how could her story ever truly end. Definitely one for the Chocolat lovers.
