SPRING 2019 READING CHALLENGE
Thanks for a great challenge! I’ve prepared a list and hoping to go to the library tomorrow or Monday. Looking forward to what my friends will be reading for the challenge.Rachel your timing of posting the challenge worked perfect for me. I will have 3 weeks off work, then 3 weeks light duty due to surgery I’ll be having on Wednesday.
Happy Reading!

You’re welcome, Danell! Glad you like it.
Good luck with your surgery.
:)
I finished two books for the challenge, “The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy” which works for the space ship portion and “Baby Teeth” which works for the dentist portion.

Danell wrote: "Surgery went well and I am in recovery mode"Glad everything went well-wishing you a full and speedy recovery.
xo
I finished The Lost Man
for the author task. I had mixed feelings about this one-Iike her writing especially the way the setting is like a character but the characters themselves were hard to connect to and felt a bit flat. I enjoyed her debut more.
Looks like everyone is off to a great start to our spring challenge. Danell, I'm glad your surgery went well and you are on the recovery road. Take care and heal fast.
I read
as my book set from back in the day. Its meatier the the title suggests.

Thanks for the update, Christine! :)
I'm not how many people read science fiction and for the task of being on a spaceship, I highly recommend John Scalzi's Collapsing Empire series, especially if you can listen to it. Wil Wheaton is the narrator and he can be laugh out loud funny. I am going to say this again, I highly recommend these books. There's only 2 book in the series as of now. Just a great entertaining read, very clever writing.

I read “The You I’ve Never Known” by Ellen Hopkins, which works for #2 in the challenge. Great book. Looked into the book you recommended Christine, unfortunately the Libby app doesn’t have either the audio or ebook. I’ll have to look for it my next library trip.

Hey all, just wanted to let you know I'm still here lurking in the shadows. I plan to read at least a few books that will work for the Spring Challenge :-)
I'm currently reading, well re-reading The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. This book is set partly in 1991 and partly in 1681. The 1991 features a story with landline phones!

Great to hear from you, Dustin! :)
Hope all is well.
So I was going to read Different Seasons but a couple of pages into Apt Pupil I knew it wasn’t for me.I loved Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption: A Story from Different Seasons which works for the teeth task as well as landline task.
Looking forward to reading The Body-stand by me is one of my favorite movies.
Also wanted to see if anyone is interested in a group read next season. Would love to read Recursion
with the group if possible.Hope everyone is well. :)
P.S. There’s also a new King book in the fall that sounds awesome.
The Institute
I finished “Apt Pupil” by Stephen King, hard to get into but overall a good, but disturbing book. It works for the bad boy part of the challenge. Also listened to “Endurance” by Scott Kelly, which works for the space ship challenge. Kelly narrated the audio. The book was okay.Group read, count me in.
I'm a fan of both Blake Crouch and Stephen King so I'd be interested in both of those new books.

Cloudy Sunday here but leaving on a retreat with my art group tomorrow. Its going to be so much fun. I just finished
It fits for task #3. It was good but kind of draggy in places. I listened to it, probably should have ticked up the speed of the narration a bit. The story is interesting because it is based in part on the author's life. It jumps back and forth between a young girl who comes from a well to do family and her teenage maid. Its all happening in Bogota, Columbia during the time of Pablo Escobar. There's definitely some scary stuff in the book.
Sounds like a relaxing and wonderful time Christine! Finished “The Dry” by Jane Harper which works for #1.

I finished Columbine. I hate to say it like this but its a book with "bad boys" and one of them is named Dylan, highly disturbing book. I didn't read this book for the challenge. It just fit oddly into it. What happened was awful and should not be taken lightly under any circumstances.

Rachel wrote: "Christine- How was your retreat? Hope you had a good time. :)"It was so much fun. We made a lot of pretty art, we ate a lot of good food, drank a lot of wine and we laughed our asses off. Its awesome to be amongst a group of wise, supportive women.

Friendship is so important and so is self care. Sounds like a great time. :)
Finished Daisy Jones & The Six
which works for both the bad boy task and set back in the day. The audiobook has a full cast led by Jennifer Beals. If you remember vh1 behind the music (and were a fan of the show), I think you will enjoy it.
I received notice from the Libby app that Daisy and the Six is now loaned to me for 14 days. I have another audiobook before that, Beer Money. Decisions. Hopefully everyone is having a wonderful spring!

Thanks for the update, Danell! Look forward to hearing what you think of it. Hope you like it.
Happy Spring! :D
I just finished
It takes place on a spaceship. I'm not sure which made for an entertaining experience, the story or the narrator, probably both. I had fun listening to it.

The Spring 2019 Reading Challenge starts March 8th and ends May 31st, 2019.
Rules of the challenge:
Read 3 books (or more)
Complete 3 tasks (or more)
Any genre okay
Rereads okay
So this spring, complete 3 (or more) of the following:
1. These authors may or may not celebrate their birthdays this season.
So this spring, READ A BOOK BY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING :
Jane Harper
Kevin Kwan
Simone St. James
2. I want you to be happy day is March 3rd.
So this spring:
READ A BOOK WITH THE WORD “YOU” IN THE TITLE/SUBTITLE.
3. Dentists and all things dentistry are celebrated March 6th.
So this spring:
READ A BOOK WITH THE LETTERS T-E-E-T-H IN THE TITLE/SUBTITLE.
4. Land line telephone day is March 10th.
So this spring:
READ A BOOK SET (AT LEAST IN PART) BACK IN THE DAY.
( Basically anytime when landlines were mostly used to make a phone call :)
5. Live long and prosper day is March 26th.
So this spring:
READ A BOOK SET (AT LEAST IN PART) ON A SPACESHIP.
6. April fools’ day is April 1st.
So this spring:
READ A BOOK THAT FEATURES SOMEONE WHOSE BEEN FOOLED.
7. Random Task-This task counts towards the challenge but is not inspired by the season. I was in college when Beverly Hills, 90210 premiered and like everyone else I got an instant crush on Luke Perry. It’s always so sad when someone is gone so young. He played many roles but may be best known for 90210 as well as Riverdale.
So this spring:
READ A BOOK THAT FEATURES A “BAD BOY” CHARACTER
Or
READ A BOOK THAT FEATURES A CHARACTER NAMED “DYLAN”
Or
READ A BOOK/GRAPHIC NOVEL THAT IS PART OF THE RIVERDALE UNIVERSE.
Hope all of you are well. :)
