Spot 50 (Series Book 5)

Book: On Demon Wings by Karina Halle
Completed: 10/13/2014
Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆
Review: I cannot give enough praise to this book or this series. Karina Halle has created the perfect combination of romance, suspense, horror and mystery in her Experiment in Terror series. On Demon Wings was definitely another crazy ride!
The predecessor, Lying Season (Book 4), left you hanging at the end of the book. I’m not talking just a little bit curious at what’s going to happen next… I’m talking complete jaw-dropping-hands-in-your-hair-OMG-I-can’t-freakin-believe-I finished-this-book-at-midnight-and-now-WAYYY-too-wired-to-do-anything-other-than-download-the-next-book-and-skim-for-key-names kind of hanging… Seriously!
Again, I can’t go into too much detail as it could spoil it for anyone reading this series but I’ll give you my highlights for this book:
1. Although I thought the entire book was fabulous - the last third of the book totally made up for any slights that may possibly have been felt at the beginning of the book. It was over the top amazing and I will have to say there were tears. Oh yes, quite a few tears were shed.
2. I appreciated how this book brought out the true nature of people in Perry’s life. If she ever had doubts of who had her back previously, there was much light shed on people and their true motives in this book.
3. I have a love/hate relationship with the ending!!!! I loved that it was so intense and had me on the edge of my seat… but GRRRRRRR…… Now I gotta read the next book – like NOW!!!

I've decided there's no way to pace EIT with SS... Can't imagine waiting another week (or likely 2!) to start book 6.. Old Blood just isn't the same!

Have you started it??
Now I'm trying to force myself to read one of my other kindle books I wanted to get in this month. Then I'm rewarding myself with book 7! Ha!

Dumb house rules, right?
And what a suck up that MaximASS is!! Ha!

Book 5 in a series

Rating: 4 Stars
Finished: 10/11/14
I'll post my full review when I write it, but here's my short and sweet one.
This series just keeps getting better and better. I really liked Holly and Will when we met them in other books, but together, in their own book was even better than I expected. Their situation was amped up considerably and I couldn't put the book down. I love this series and I can't wait for more.

Kristin, I hope you like the Darkest London series. Again the first two were a tad bit slow, but I enjoyed them a lot and it just keeps getting better and more interesting.

Me too! You know I'm chomping at the bit for the roll! Woo-Hoo!! Think we'll make it OK for tonight? :D. :D. :D

Where the Allegheny Meets the Monongahela
4 stars
I saw this book three years and change ago. I didn't want to read it then when it pop up on my recommendation page. I knew the reason I didn't read this book was a bit petty. I don't even think I had read the blurb till a few weeks ago. I was wrong to have not read this and I should be forgiven. This was a lovely story about getting a clear view of your past issues, so you can have better future. There were a few moments of actual romance. What romance was there I love it. I admit I wanted to see more of how some secondary characters reacted to Logan and Nick's relationship. Overall I wish the author has more books out but it is just this really good one.

Roll 5: Spot 50 - stand alone, set in Texas

Book: The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly
Finished: 10/16/2014
Rating: 5 stars
Review:
Calpurnia is an 11 year-old girl living in a small town in Texas at the turn of the 20th century. She has a keen interest in science and nature but is restrained by demands and expectations of the girls and women of the time period. Having impressed her naturalist grandfather with her enthusiasm, Callie develops a relationship with the old man and gets a chance to discover the world around her and learn and grow up in the process.
I thought this was a great book for girls! I wish I had a niece or knew a friend with a teenage daughter I could recommend it to. Calpurnia is such an amazing character - spirited, tomboyish, bright, funny. Even though the book is set more than a hundred years ago, I believe girls today would still find plenty they could relate to.
The book doesn't have much of a plot, but characters are very well drawn, each with a unique voice and personality. Callie's six(!) brothers, parents, grandfather, best friend, even the cook and the piano teacher - all had a chance to stand out and be memorable at some point. The writing is beautiful but not heavy, the book reads fluently and the message to strive to discover one's true self was delivered clearly and splendidly in my opinion. A great and inspiring story that I enjoyed very much.

WOW ! Me completing a book before the deadline is like a shocker for me too, given by 80-hour per week current schedule ! :P But, how I love when I get to read a nice, not very lengthy book with an interesting, if not exhilarating tale.
Edit : Damn ! And I sleep mid-way my review.. I am such a dufus ! :X :P
Number Called : 50
Requirement : Standalone
Book Read : The Time Machine | H.G. Wells | 10/16/2014
Rating : ★★★.5
Review
Interesting ! Damn mighty interesting ! I am absolutely not surprised that H.G. Wells is like the grand father of the SciFi genre coz he creats this imaginary world set in 802,701 AD which such effectiveness and detail that even after 120+ years of the original publication, the book still breaths freshness.
But there were somethings which bothered me all along. The character development really lacked substance and it ended up being more of the time travel fascination than the story elaboration. Had that been done in a better way, we would have a longer novel with something really to challenge our imaginations. I did read a comment about it somewhere which really sums up what I feel about the book, 'It's one of those novels, that are more important for their historical significance, and for the ideas they present, than for their entertainment value.'
But, we have to give all possible credit to Mr. Wells for coming up with something more than a century ago that even today remains a fascination for every one-odd person.
"A classic is a book that has never finished saying what it has to say" - Italo Calvino .
This is just so true for this classic. Its, IMO, a masterstroke but not a masterpiece.

Edit : Damn ! And I sleep mid-way my review.. I am such a dufus ! :X :P"
Great job Apoorv. I know you are extremely busy, so please do not hesitate to let us know if you can't handle this challenge on top of your work. The last thing we want is you to stress out, so please keep that in mind. This is just fun, but we are counting on you, so I know that it can get a little daunting when real life picks up.
I'm doing overtime right now at work, plus there's drama at work, which has made reading a little tough lately...except I haven't been able to sleep because of the stress, so that's helped a little with the reading. It's a strange little circle. lol

Review
Team Dex all the way baby!!
Enjoyed getting to know Dex Foray better with this story as it discusses what happened in Dex's life and what was going on in Dex's mind in between the time Perry left Dex's apartment and when Dex arrives with Ada in Perry's room a few months later.
I loved that Rebecca played a big role in helping Dex get his life on a better path. She is such a good friend to Dex & Perry.
Dex is just a twisted and sexy man and found the glimpse into how much Perry really means to Dex somewhat surprising. The beautiful and flawed man has a much bigger heart than was viewed thru Perry's eyes. She obviously has no idea!
What a sad and lonely relationship between Dex & Jenn. She really is the original Twatwaffle! No wonder he felt like such a lost puppy! And, speaking of puppies - happy Dex still had Fat (farty) Rabbit.
Usually I'm not a fan of novella's but since it was actually over 200 pages, it really can't be considered a filler book but more of a full fledged story. The only thing missing from this book compared to the regular EIT series books was a creepy Dex & Perry mystery as it delved more into Dex's psyche - whose psyche may actually be considered frightening enigma by some!
There are only 3 more books remaining in this series and I'm already sad to think of it ending.

I was pretty pleased with the alternate book selection too! Hope you're enjoying your book. As usual with EIT series, I devoured and loved every minute of it.
