I would also like to see a re-release of Shogun by James Clavell.
My dream would be for them to make Ready Player One into a movie that followed the book instead of that completely different storyline with the same title. Completely different.

The problem with making Ready Player One off the book is that it isn't all that action-oriented and it is almost literally a one-person show for most of it. The movie had the bonus of keeping most of the feel while keeping the tempo up and involving most of the characters in the solving of the puzzle. Not a perfect solution but a pretty decent one.

In the past TV executives didn't like SciFi.
Nowdays Assimov's attitude to women might cause a problem.
Also TV likes more action

Plus there is the rape of Elena (?) Elana (?). I read it about 35 years ago so I can't remember her name, but I remember that rape vividly. It was excused away due to a change in his condition, but I don't think that excusing would translate into a movie, either.

I don't think it could ever be a TV program for that reason

If Foundation has some issues with how Women are portrayed, Covenant has a huge hole in that regard right from the start.

I have to agree that parts of Thomas Covenant would not translate well....but aspects could be good.

I'm dancing a jig! I like Hiroyuki Sanada.

I'd like to make several counter arguments to that but Anna would probably descend down from the heavens, judo chop me in the back of the neck and move me over to a new topic.
I would like to see them take a compilation/anthology like 'Rogues' and put them in a 'black mirror' style of episodes.
I just watched that again because I still get bothered about that. What an unnatural way to move *grumble*

I'd like to make several c..."
I would be interested to hear your thoughts. If Anna is willing you can share them here, or you can drop me an email.

Remember the 1st key? Wade had to fight his way through the DnD dungeon then battle the lich at the end. (all action) On his way out he met Artemis who trapped him there.

You do well at pointing out the action bits from the book, there were long sections of research that were solo for the most part, like the long-drawn-out time trying to find the Tomb of Horror's Adventure site. I like the book and I am glad I read it before watching the movie, but I did enjoy the movie as well. It was much better in my mind than many book-to-film adaptations.
Although if they do another adaptation of Ready Player One, I think your breakdown should be the plot line.

This was made into a series at the time, although, they only made the first and second book if memory serves?

two choices instantly spring to mind beyond the classic Amber series which has been mentioned.
All of the Moorcock champion eternal series, preferably by Netflix as overlapping series like is done with the Marvel and DC universe`s?
And the other is Black Wings has my Angel which would make an amazing movie if done properly?
Finally, one to mention although it is currently being considered is the Wild Cards series?

OOOO, Black Wings Has My Angel, could be an excellent noir movie. Iy would need the right actors to pull it off.

I think Guy Ritchie could do an even better 'Rivers of London'.

I think Guy Ritchie could do an even better 'Rivers of London'."
I would say that for either of these it would depend somewhat on which Guy Ritchie showed up. The one that did Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, or the one who did the Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Don't get me wrong I enjoyed watching both movies, but one was well done, the other was merely amusing. And no I don't have a counter suggestion, since I really don't pay enough attention to directores. Had to look Ritchie up to see what he had done.

I always tell my friends to watch the movie first. It is enjoyable. If it was renamed, Spielberg's Gamer Online it would have been fantastic.
Of course this book hits me right in the heart with all its 80s references. Had I been born in the mid 90s+ I don't think it would have had the same effect. I guess this is why I have similar opinions with Michael Bay and the Ninja Turtles. Or the Mario's Bros Movie. or...

Makes sense. I graduated in 81 so some of the references in Ready Player One were a bit of a miss for me, but the video games and D and D references were pretty close to home since I did a great deal of that, but it was the stand-up video games, not the console ones. Armada had a bunch of references as well, but it seemed overused at that point. I started Ready Player Two but I am not sure what I think of it yet

they'd have to do them in timeline order, not on written order, though

Hell of a fine alternate world story steeped in Cold War paranoia. Would be so much fun to watch if it were done properly. And SF thrillers, which is what this definitely is, are one of the few categories of SF that Hollywood sometimes gets right.
