Amy*skye.rhyme | 183 comments I recently started a paranormal list with the above theme but haven't gotten many ideas yet. I'll add your recommendations to the list or you could vote or view it yourself here:

Coming Out of the Coffin - Paranormals Reveal Themselves to Humans as a Group
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Here's what I'm looking for:

Fiction of any genre where paranormal creatures are exposed to humanity on a massive scale. Maybe they chose to finally come out the closet as a group or someone screwed up badly in public and they just can't mind-wipe or kill enough people to contain it. Both positive or negative reactions are fine. I want to see the shock, fear, fascination, wars or acceptance.

A secondary or similar plot could also be books where they fight for equal rights. Good examples are "Going Under" by Lauren Dane and "Kitty Goes to Washington" by Carrie Vaughn.

If this theme occurs throughout multiple books in a series, add ONLY the book in which it actually starts happening OR the book that spends the most time dealing with the fallout. Please don't list the first book unless it's the one that contains the big reveal.

(This list is NOT for the many books where just one shifter comes out to their human mate, etc.)

Jen (jennibug23) | 4 comments Check out Year One by Nora Roberts. There's a sickness that kills a huge amount of the population and also brings out powers in some (and enhances powers of others that already had them). There are fairies, elves, and witches. So at the same time as this plague, all these magical beings are out in the open. It doesn't fit exactly with what you are saying, but maybe? This book is first in a series.

Something happens and 'the magic world' collides with our world and becomes one...

MJ, thanks for the ideas! I think the Stone Guardian one looks good. But I really have never been a big sookie stackhouse fan. I think that series is one where you either love it or you hate it. I might try it again maybe. It was years ago. All suggestions are greatly appreciated though!

Jen, Year One by Nora Roberts is one that I'd already thought about reading sometime soon, because I actually DO love epidemic/survival/apocalypse type books. I just hadn't realized the plot also involved all of my favorite paranormals too! I'll bump it higher up on my reading list. Thank you

Rachel, I'm gonna check out your suggestion. It sounds interesting. Thanks!

I'll second that recommendation as it's an excellent book.

Keith | 224 comments TV Tropes has a page for this with a bunch of book examples under Literature:

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.ph...

These sorts of reveals often tend to happen partway into a series - that happens in Charles Stross' Laundry series (first book The Atrocity Archives) and possibly in the Harry Dresden books (that series isn't listed on the TV Tropes page, but I seem to remember hearing about an incident where Harry rides a zombie dinosaur through Chicago, so...).

Ebookworm2016 | 182 comments Patricia Briggs— Mercedes Thompson and Alpha Omega series. The series are connected and, eventually, you need to be reading both to get the full story. Book 1 of Mercy’s side is “Moon Called” and the novella Aloha and Omega is in the anthology “On the Prowl”, but also available separately now.

The werewolves are outed by book three of Mercy Thompson, because a video is sent to Congress. I don’t think they are outed in book 1, though it may be talked about.

The fae get outed later in the series, but I believe that’s on the Alpha Omega side.... maybe “Fair Game”? I’m thinking of a scene with the fae prince riding on a horse down a street..... Or no...maybe Mercy talks about it earlier when a fae reveals himself in court. Maybe someone else remembers the specific books. It’s an ongoing theme, but not spoilers to the main plots of the books.

Thanks so much Keith! Looking up literature
examples within a certain plot/trope on the TV tropes website is a great tip! It gave me lots of alternate ways to phrase what I'm looking for when I want a certain theme. For example, if anyone is interested, the big reveal or supernatural world exposed idea I'm looking for here is also called "unmasking" or ending the masquerade, etc.

I'd never heard of the site, it's really cool.

Thank you ebookworm2016 for the details on where in the series most of the stuff really starts happening. That's exactly what I was looking for!
