I'll keep track of the nominations in this post..1. The Circular Staircase by Mary Roberts Rinehart (Nancy)
2. The Riddle of the Sands by Erskine Childers (Susanna)
3. The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad (Paul)
4. The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle (Suzy)
5. The Old Man in the Corner by Emmuska Orczy (Bill)
I've read her The Man in Lower Ten, so I'll nominate Mary Roberts Rinehart's The Circular Staircase (1908).
I will nominate The Riddle of the Sands, by Erskine Childers. (1903)I've read this but so long ago I remember nothing about it. But it's a spy novel - one of the first, I think.

Same here -- read it a long time ago and have completely forgotten it.

Supposed to be one of the precursor's to the spy novel. I read it a few years back as well.
Nancy wrote: "I've read her The Man in Lower Ten, so I'll nominate Mary Roberts Rinehart's The Circular Staircase (1908)."It's been on my TBR list for a year or so.. neat
Paul wrote: "Shall we have Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent?"I read that a few years ago.. quite good..
Suzy wrote: "How about The Hound of the Baskervilles? I reread it a few years ago and loved it."It's been five years since this group read it so I don't see why not. There are lots of new members in that time. :)

Let me add a book for consideration - The Old Man in the Corner: Twelve Classic Detective Stories by Emmuska Orczy (1901)
If anyone's a fan of GK Chesterton, The Man Who Was Thursday: A Nightmare is eligible (1908). (Just making a suggestion, not a nomination.)
Susanna - Censored by GoodReads wrote: "If anyone's a fan of GK Chesterton, The Man Who Was Thursday: A Nightmare is eligible (1908). I'm hoping we get a chance to read something by GKC but holding out for Father Brown which isn't eligible this month ( plus I'm not nominating just in case I'd have to run a discussion two months in a row!)
I'll put the poll up on Sunday. Still another two days for nominations. 5 excellent books up at the moment.
The poll is up and will be until 15 Mar. Five interesting mysteries. It can be found at this link. Good luck.https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...
Your selections have been made - - The Circular Staircase by Mary Roberts Rinehart (nominated by Nancy)

The category is Mysteries / Thrillers / Spy stories, etc published originally between 1900 - 1909. I hope you enjoy doing a bit of research to find novels / short stories that fit the category. I think the Feb selections were successful and enjoyable. I've included the one link that features an article about the first 100 years of detective fiction..

Also just taking a look at my reading lists, here are a few authors you might feel like checking out... (By the way, some authors published in more than one decade so I have no objection to repeat authors in this category)
Baroness Orczy - Old Man stories
Arthur Conan Doyle - of course there were Sherlock Holmes books published in this period
Erskine Childers
Bram Stoker
Joseph Conrad
Mary Roberts Reinhart..
G.K. Chesterton
I look forward to seeing what books might be nominated.... Enjoy!!!
