A few standalones

The first book in each series

And one of my favorites EVER

and the collection of interconnected series here https://www.goodreads.com/series/2168...
There's gotta be something here that you fancy!

Suzanne Wright Feral Sins and Here Be Sexist Vampires
Amelia Hutchins Fighting Destiny
I love them both.

Heavy hitters that doesn’t include Kresley Cole?

Cole also has the Arcana Chronicles. It’s not the type of book you are lead to believe it is.

http://www.thearcanachronicles.com/#
Best part, all of Cole’s books can be aquired at most libraries so if the cost is above your budget (it was for me but I had credits for audible). If you do go the audible way, Robert Petkoff is awesome. They are very few who can do it all in voices than this guy.
Lexi Blake has a series

Laurann Dohner has the New Species series

I hope this helps.

I really enjoyed these far less popular pnr/uf authors/series. Hopefully, at least one of these will be a new "under the radar" idea for you.

Here are the 1st books in several lesser-known series that I've really liked. I think they deserve much more attention. Most of them have strong, feisty heroines, since that is what I prefer as well.

I'd be curious to know if any of these sound like they may work for you. Let me know.

The Others series by Anne Bishop - simply brilliant. Starts with

Jane Yellowrock series by Faith Hunter - hardcore UF

Sensor series by Susan Illene - 1st book

Harper Hall series by Isabel Jordan - fun PNR series

Darkness series by Katie Reus - PNR. I’m listing my favorite

Suzanne Wright - Dark in You series. Completed series. Book 1 is

Ella Summers - Legion of Angel series. Ongoing series. Book 1 is

K.F. Breene - Demigod of SF series. Ongoing. Book 1 is

Jenn Stark's Immortal Las Vegas series and it's spin-off the Demon Enforcers series. I binge read Immortal Las Vegas. Short books.
Breene also wrote a trilogy
And naturally, Suzanne Johnson's Sentinal's of New Orleans, which is a bit more UF and some romance. Really good and highly recommended. Book 1,
is a bit slow, but book 2
on are terrific.

so, I am looking through the recommendations and I'm adding to your list:
Dianne Duvall has an excellent series where the women kick ass

So does Elisabeth Naughton

And for funsies, here is my book, which is the first in the series:

“It's difficult to love a woman whose vagina is a gateway to the world of the dead.
Steve is madly in love with his eccentric girlfriend, Stacy. Unfortunately, their sex life has been suffering as of late, because Steve is worried about the odd noises that have been coming from Stacy's pubic region. She says that her vagina is haunted. She doesn't think it's that big of a deal. Steve, on the other hand, completely disagrees.
When a living corpse climbs out of her during an awkward night of sex, Stacy learns that her vagina is actually a doorway to another world. She persuades Steve to climb inside of her to explore this strange new place. But once inside, Steve finds it difficult to return... especially once he meets an oddly attractive woman named Fig, who lives within the lonely haunted world between Stacy's legs.”
Hahahaha

I think you should try Legion of Angels by Ella Summers, it's cool-
Hope it helped

Half-Blood
Legion of Angels

Deborah Harkness

J.L. Weill - Divisa series
Karen Lynch

I remember someone mentioned Keri Arthur. In college she was I think my favorite UF/PR author, especially her Riley Jenson and Dark Angels series. I've read all of her books, but I could only barely get through the first two books of her Lizzie Grace series!! I felt so betrayed lol.
Lara Adrian, J.R. Ward and Suzanne Wright (I kind of pool them together in my mind) I thought were really good, although I don't remember which one called combat boots "shitkickers" which sort of triggered eye rolls for me.
My all time favorite is Ilona Andrews and Jeaniene Frost, so I read anything they produce. I even read the Innkeeper Chronicles (and liked it!), even though I usually run the other way as soon as I read the words "planet" or "space".
Currently I'm a little in despair because I have enough time available that I'm burning through ebooks and audiobooks like the world is gonna end. Because of this, I've tried to minimize purchases and try to stick with Kindle Unlimited, discounted books and what my local library has to offer. This has been going great with ebooks and I have a decent list of standbys, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding decent Kindle Unlimited audiobooks in this genre. I really rely on audiobooks because I love to knit, weave and do digital illustration while listening to them, and I just can't pick up those hobbies until I have something lined up.
Suggestions? Thanks!

I’m not sure how to see if a book is on Kindle Unlimited Subscriptions. But I do know that you can 1) get both Kresley Cole’s series Immortals After Dark and The Arcana Chronicles at most libraries. Also, both series are narrated by the most awesome(est?) narrators that ever lived. Robert Pettkoff does multiple accents and character behaviors flawlessly. I guess it pays off to be a professional actor in theatre. https://www.audible.com/pd/Wicked-Dee...
The Arcana Chronicles

I’ll search on how to find out about the KU audible. I know if it just don’t have it. But I’ve been and audible.com member for several years now so I might be able to find something for you,
One other thing, most libraries also have audible and e-book available. You might want to look into that avenue since you wouldn’t have to physically go to a library to check out an audible or and e-book.

There is an app named Libby that hooks you up with your local library and helps you rent e-books and audible. See if you can find the app available on your phone or ipad.

More towards the fantasy end, I second the Sarah J. Maas Throne of Glass pick.
Along the GA Aiken/Shelley Laurenston line, have you ever tried Marie Hall?

."
I've read the first one and I was very, very disappointed. I can't for the life of me understand why people get so excited about it. I really liked the ACOTAR series, though. :(

Thank you for your suggestions!
Yes! I've been using Libby to do audiobooks/ebooks from my library. I've never used a public library before so I can't compare, but I feel like their selection isn't very big (at least in the UF/PNR genres).
I just looked to see if they had Kresley Cole's books and they only have the first audiobook of The Arcana Chronicles, so I might try it. However, the book description says the characters are 16yo? I'm not so sure about that. How teenagy is it?
For KU, I'm using this link to search for the books that have audible versions, but it's too broad, so it's just endlessly clicking next for hours.
From the KU catalogue, I've already tried:
Suzanne Wright - It wasn't top notch quality but pretty good. She had 11 audiobooks available with KU so that kept me busy
Melissa F. Olson - Tried her Boundary Witch book 1, but I hated it
J.T. Geissinger - Tried one book, didn't love it. The writing was uhm... too ladidah?
Dani Harper Tried it, almost finished, still might, but I can't see myself doing the rest of the series.
I had an Audible membership, but like I said I'm going through books too fast, so 1 credit a month wasn't enough, and even with the discount it's coming to be too much $, so I paused the membership for two months, while I try to squeeze as many audiobooks from KU as possible.

With the Arcana Chronicles, looks are VERY misleading. It starts off as a dull teen contemporary drama piece. When you get to Ch. 13... it’s a game changer. It than evolves again and again until the end. Than it’s a dystopia/apocalyptic/paranormal romance and not the book you started out with. It’s a snowball that gains mass as it rolls down hill.
Here is a link to the second book, it has a trailer on the right hand side, I believe it does a much better job at explaining the series. https://thearcanachronicles.com/
My shelves has a “Audible” section, you might take a look to see if there’s anything in there you might like.

Also, I think I’m able send someone one audible gift for free. I’m not sure how it works. I might need your e-mail address though. I’ll look into it.

One more thing. My library here has an online access that allows me to look and see if they (the entire metropolitan library system - I live in the suburbs of Minneapolis) have the book I’m looking for. My local library is very small but it’s considered a way station. See if they have the book but it’s at a different location, I can place a HOLD on that book, and when it becomes available, they will deliver it to my library for me to pick up. Best part is when I’m finished reading it I can drop it off at any library. It saves gas, money, and I have most books at my ipad finger tips. It’s great. You might want to see if your small library has the same services. I also think that DVD audible are also available through that means as well.

Oh wow I'm kinda sold with the trailer. Although I'm a sucker for trailers in general lol, so hopefully I actually like it. Now I'll definitely try the first book since it's on libby. I'm good with books that evolve, I just have to be warned to stick with it. That's what happened to me with Sarah J Maas.
And thanks for the audible gift offer, that's super sweet! I'll take it if you have nobody else to give it to, but definitely put me at the bottom of the list if there's someone else who needs it more!

I love knitting, spinning and weaving too! And an audiobook is the perfect thing to keep my mind as busy as my fingers. Have you read (listened to) JD Robb's In Death series? I love the narrator of those.

I'm new to weaving! It's been super fun, but I'm still at the stage of "whyyyy is my weave so tight!!" and having issues with overly ambitious patterns.
I've never read the In Death series. I like that it has a ton of books! I read the description of the series/first book and didn't seem to mention anything paranormal though. Does it have anything paranormal or since it's set in the future, is the world different than our current world?

Well it seems it be easy to do. I can gift you Poison Princess the Arcana Chronicles by Kresley Cole. I will need your address to send it to you. You can just send me a personal message through Goodreads. * why does that always sound so sinister to me?* And I’ll let you know the moment I request the gift to be sent to you. Than you can tell me if you received it.

It's not really paranormal, just futuristic. Another series that I've enjoyed is the Magic series by Jenny Schwartz. It's dystopian fantasy with some humans suddenly developing magic. They are in kindle unlimited. The first book is Stray Magic: A Dystopian Fantasy I'm not sure those are in audio though. Has anyone mentioned Ilona Andrews yet? Grace Draven? Elizabeth Hunter? Thea Harrison?

I'll look more into the In Death series. As long as the world is somehow different than our current world, I think I can live with that.
The book you linked is on KU but no audiobook included, so I'll keep it in mind for my ebook lists.
Ilona Andrews is my favorite author, so I've read all her books and although their books aren't on KU, I already have them all and don't mind paying for their books/audiobooks at all.
I'll look into Grace Draven, Elizabeth Hunter, and I'm currently reading a Thea Harrison book as an ebook.
For all of those who have been helping me, thanks! For now I found this one author called SJ West whose books are on KU with audiobooks, so I'm listening to her first one to see if I like it. Hopefully I do and can continue her series, which would buy me a couple of weeks of entertainment.

Hope you find it. Good luck.

One of the things I like about Black London is that the heroine isn't a badass bounty hunter/assassin/whatever type. I mean I like that as much as the next UF fan, but it gets old when every leading lady has that job. Pete is a different sort of heroine, not soft but not a one-woman army either.

Alex Craft - Kalayna Price
Elemental Assassin - Jennifer Estep
Innkeeper Chronicles - Ilona Andrews
Iron Druid Chronicles - Kevin Hearne
Rosie O'Grady's Paranormal Bar & Grill - B.R. Kingsolver
Beginner's Guide to Necromancy - Hailey Edwards

I'm also a big fan of PNR and UF. However, I tend to have, erm, quite unpopular opinions about PNR. Many well-loved books bored or annoyed me out of my mind, the Jeaniene Frost books or Black Dagger Brotherhood for instance :/ The Hidden Lagcy is also one of my favourite, I'm currently re-reading the first three books + novella before going on to Sapphire Flames *heart eyes*
My favourite PNR series are
- Oviosuly, the Hidden Legacy series
- Fever series by Karen Marie Morning : an imperfect series with a quite stereotypical male character but just enough magic and mystery to keep you really, really interested. The atmosphere of those books did it for me.
- A Flight of Magpies series, by K.J. Charles : set in Victorian London, a romance between a poor magician and a very, erm, grumpy lord. Very sweet and nice atmosphere.
- Wolfsong by T.J. Klune (already cited earlier) : indeed awesome. Made me cry a bunch.
- If you also like fae/faeries, you can also try the famous A Court of Thorns and Roses series. The first two books are pretty good and contrary to what I've seen, it is NOT YA.
UF :
- The Dresden Files : one of my favourite series in every genre ever. The first three books are okay on the side of good, the rest of it is increasingly awesome. Don't be afraid by the 16 books, I read it all in a year while reading other things and my husband read all of it in 4 months. It read THAT easy. Main character is a PI who happens to be a mage. Atmosphere is between True Detective and the darkest Harry Potter books, with lots and lots of snark.
- The first 5-6 Anita Blake books. You can read the rest of it if you want but from book 8-9 on, the sex takes something like two thirds of the books and the actual doing stuff (opposed to people, heh) is ridiculously small. However, the earlier books are amongst my favourite.
- The Kate Daniels books by Ilona Andrews : awesome worldbuilding, quite a bit of romance especially in the hilarious seduction between the two main characters, great characters, great pacing. Everybody go home.
- The Jill Kismet series by Lilith Saintcrow : I haven't read the end of the series yet but it's very good. It has romance in it and the main characters and worldbuilding are very original.
- The Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch : set in London, it has a Neil Gaiman feel to it while being as gritty as few UF. Very good character development and slow but enthralling pacing.
- The Mercy Thompson series : really cool characters, original atmosphere, interesting magic and deep implications.

Okay. That is a one click for me based purely on how hard I laughed when I read the title :)
