That's great!
Well, now I'm going fast, but after a while it will be a lot more difficult to find the letters I still miss (like last year...).

message 54: by MiA (last edited Oct 23, 2014 05:34AM) (new)

MiA (mirhershelf) | 125 comments Yeah, I totally get that. Some letters are more challenging to find. I have in mind a writer or two for every letter except the X. Even in the book titles challenge I can't think of an author's name or a book title that starts with or contains an X. For the Q I had to use the one inside the name Marquez for I couldn't think of a name with Q either.

message 55: by Elsbeth (last edited Oct 23, 2014 05:50AM) (new)

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) I have one on my ereader for the Y: The Love Makers by Y.L. Cantrell.
For the X I found a book which is not even on Goodreads: The Fence by Xiezi Wangdong & John Adamson.
For the Q I also have one which is not on Goodreads: A Little North of Here by P.D. Quidson.

For the book title challenge I also found some (but I don't know if I have the time to read them before the year ends...).
The X: Xingu by Edith Wharton
The Q: Queen of America by Luis Alberto Urrea.
Or: Quiet as a Nun by Antonia Fraser.
For the Y I read: The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
for the Z I plan to read: Zaira - A Girl Before Her Time by Patricia Borlenghi.

I hope this helps somewhat...

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) 16/26
I had to swap some authors to make room for Sharon Short (which of course can only be used for the S...). So I moved Melanie Schulz from S to M; Jen Minkman from M to J; and V.A. Jeffrey from J to V.

MiA (mirhershelf) | 125 comments Just finished my 12th for the letter G and added my currently reading for the letters E&N.

message 76: by Anil (new)

Anil (loykalina) | 69 comments I have just added 3 authors to my list, though I haven't finished Clarissa, yet. It is a long one despite being an abridged version. (I am reading Kindle version and I suspect some of the letters were not added in that version. Still, it is a nine-volume version. I have finished 8 volumes and almost one-fifth of the last volume.) So, I have completed more than half of the challenge. Only 12 letters to go!

Jayme I just finished Brown Girl Dreaming by Jaqueline Woodson for the letter W. It is written in free verse and is a beautiful read. It won the National Book Award this year for Young People's Literature and is really worth reading - can you hear me gushing? - loved this book.

I was looking for a Q book and did not realize that Ishmael had a sequel. Thanks for my Q book :)

Abcdarian Jayme wrote: "I was looking for a Q book and did not realize that Ishmael had a sequel. Thanks for my Q book :) "

You're welcome. I really enjoyed the first half of it; it kind of bogged down near the end, but the ideas are very interesting. I had not read Ishmael; just found this one on the Q shelf. ;-)

message 95: by Abcdarian (new)

Abcdarian Finished all the hard letters; now I'll look for replacements for the ones where I was using first names.

message 96: by Jayme (new)

Jayme If you are having a hard time finding a book for a letter X author, Xiaolu Guo has several and her books are on the Bailys/Orang prize shortlists. I just finished reading A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers which was very interesting.
